Good hit, text book tackle. Just because someone receives a correct but solid hit and gets shaken up doesn't mean the hit was illegal. Jeez, it is football isn't it? Stupid Ref, and stupid announcer
It's like the absolute boneheaded call on the Colt's Dan Orlovsky today..... that literally played a direct role in deciding the game.
Or the Andre Carter tackle on Rex Grossman.... where Rex was 'running away' and Carter wrapped his arm around his legs (not even his knees)... and they called roughing.
Well he certainly did not hit him late. And... driving him to the ground? He hit him with a hard force initially (which btw is not illegal). There was nothing extra added on it to 'illegaly drive him to the ground.' I fail to see that extra 'oomph' to make the call. Is he supposed to slam on the emergency brakes or hit reverse?
U can blame good ol' Goodell and Greg Aiello for the NFL sisy league it's turned to. I didnt hear much complaints back in the old days. But I sure here alot now!
This is a perfect hit- right on time and no where near the qb's head or knees and somehow it is a penalty. The NFL is a garbage league now. Goodell ruined it. Offensive pass interference is legal but defenders can't look at a receiver. Quarterbacks can not be hit. You either have one of the half dozen elite qbs in the league or you are completely irrelevant.
What a great hit/tackle. I don't understand this penalty at all. Thank you Phil Simms for describe a tackle "He drove him into the ground" Isn't that a tackle?!?!
The "drove him to the ground" argument is bullshit. The defender doesn't know if the QB still has the ball, and if he did have the ball how the f#$k else would he tackle him, but put him on his ass?
The ref didn't call the "drove him to the ground" either. He said he hit him with the "hairline" of the helmet. Yeah, otherwise known as FACEMASK.
@newenglandchick95 antonio garay was the one who tackled brady at the knee, he got fined $15,000 for the hit. there was no flag on the play but at least the nfl recognized the hit. this is coming from a chargers fan btw
BS. That is a PICTURE PERFECT TACKLE as taught from grade school onwards. This is not an "NFL" issue.
It is a "corporatism" issue. Big money and what it wants is all that matters. They pay QBs a lot, so they have made up all kinds of rules to "protect" them. If you can't take a hit like this, don't play. Corporatism controls this country, and one of its goals is the feminization of males. If you look, you see it everywhere. See "Fight club" bus scene...they nailed it.
@kenfo0 See that's where your wrong about that tackle the reason why it was ruffing the passer is because he drove him into into the ground as well as using his helmet to do it. You also say if you cant take a hit dont play. obviously you dont know what its like get hit by a 200 to 300 pound man, besides you heard the announcers it was a close call. there will always be plays like that getting called we might see next week the the steelers rough the colts and it doesn't get called
@TubbyToadInc You can't even string words into a sentence. He performed a text book tackle taught to GRADE schoolers. I played, we got hit, we got hurt, we manned the hell up. Take your sissified "base-ketball" or whatever game you are trying to change this into and hit the pike, girlie.
@kenfo0 I can put sentences together i just prefer to write everything im saying all at once and not look back, again if you read what i said it was just the way he was tackled, the NFL is just trying to limit the injuries to players in general, i know this is an old example but they don't want players to end up like Darryl Stingley.I mean who to say that could have easily injured him. If you can't respect the fact the NFL is making things safer dont comment on how it was a text book tackle
@pats4lifebb check out the hit from Turk Mcbride on Cam Newton yesterday. Roger Goodell is ruining this game. If this hit on Rivers is roughing the passer, I'm the King of Japan. You're right, this is a textbook tackle. I just want to know how the refs expect a rusher coming in at full speed to stop on a dime 6 inches away from the Qb who still has the ball?
@TubbyToadInc look fatfroggyllc, you don't know football. The nfl does not care ONE BIT about the players, other than 1. bad publicity hurting sales and 2. losing money from KEY players being injured. No NFL team is paying to bury anyone with head trauma, nor would this tackle cause head trauma. You clearly don't know anything about the game, and are the type of person I spoke of earlier: a new generation of sissy-boys instead of men. This tackle has NOTHING to do w/brain injury.
The NFL is becoming a stinking pile of garbage! Players make big money to take tough hits. That hit in no way endangered Rivers' life. Roger Goodell has to go.
I hear what you guys are saying, but the fact is these rules were signed in so it is now illegal to spear a guy, he did lead with his head, he did pick him up and he did drive him into the ground, you cant do that anymore... but I agree with what you guys are saying 10 years ago it was legal, and was considered a good tackle, but now they dont want guys to be paralyzed or injured severly so I kind of cant help but agree with why they changed the rules.
