I have a 2000 extreme like yours, except mines the 4-cylinder 5 speed...im wanting to pretty much have the same beast sound as you, should i just get the 40 series muffler and a tip orr what?
Okay I'm looking to make my Extreme quieter once I get my tranny fixed..I have a old burnt out glass pack on it and it sounds really good and I like the tone but I'm getting sick of how loud it is driving down the highway. I have my exhaust coming out where it is suppose to and at like a 45 or something like that...I was just wondering how your exhaust is in the cab and if it is decently quiet going down the road.
First off, I want to say your truck sounds AWESOME.
Second, I want to ask about getting mine to sound like that. My 92 S10 has the 4.3 but it's obviously not the Xtreme. I don't know a damned thing about exhaust. If I were to put a Flowmaster 40 (1 in, 2 out), would it sound like yours? Did you make any modifications to it?
Only thing is, the '92 vortec was built a little different than my '00. So that's the only reason I can think it would sound any different. Stay away from the super 40s and super 44s. Stick with a 40. The pipes coming out of the exhaust should be 2.5 inches. if its any larger you'll lose back pressure and get an airy sound and if its too small you'll get a higher pitched unclean sound.
Okay, yeah 40 sounds good, my exhaust is just stock single but 90s out with a tip, you think it would sound good with just the single exhaust coming out at 90 degree?
what engine do you have in here? sounds like a 350. i have a xtreme with the 4.3L want to put flowmaster on. want to be able to here it but dont want it to be to loud. what should i put on?
@sk8a4life011 Mine is the 4.3L as well... 262. Just stick with the 40 series or if you don't want it to be too loud try a 30 series. You loose loudness and the quality of the rumble is lost too. I would stick with a single 40 with dual out. Same as mine. It's only loud when stomp you on it and it still has a sick idle rumble that's not too loud.
@Stickdeath89 okay thanks, my exhaust 90s out with a stainless tip, just single ill probably stick with that but put a flowmast 40 on there. yours sounds amazing,
Nice dude, I have flowmaster 40s on my s10 Zr5 with a S&B CAI and i cut the tailpipe down bc all the sound was getting trapped in the pipes. Its a nasty sound (not in a good way) im thinking its because my cats are cloaked bc i was driving around with a bad o2 for like 2 months or more. I thinking thats why but im getting them removed. Hopefully a nice meaner sound.
I'm sorry, but you obviously have never heard a 4 cylinder engine with flowmasters. Nor have you ever heard a v6 if you think that my truck is a 2.2. A little 2.2 won't put that much sound out to almost sound like a v8.
Whats the Part number for the flowmaster mufffler. I never came across an aftermarket muffler that have different sizes between inlet and outlet on the same muffler
From picture memory, I think mine is only about a foot and a half or two feet at the most.
The xtreme has a sway bar in the back which caused installation problems when trying to figure out how to bend the pipes, but everything turned out great.
i want to put a 40 on my xtreme... but i don't want any pipes showing... do you think it would sound good with just a tip turned down after the muffler?
hey sounds amazing!

This sounds almost V8, I really like it. Is there any way to get exhaust on a 4.3 to sound like a V8?
Hambone91528 2 years ago
@Hambone91528 Get the same setup I have and take the cats out. It won't sound as clean, but still very very mean.
Stickdeath89 2 years ago
@Stickdeath89 Also this was only about 3500 rpm's because I was still scared to push it too hard. It gets about 25% louder and meaner than that :)
Stickdeath89 2 years ago
@Hambone91528 yes take off the muffler and run a straight pipe:D

stock cat?
lopey91 2 years ago
Ya, I haven't done anything to to the cat. Not sure what it would sound like with a high flow on there.
Stickdeath89 2 years ago
Probably better, I have a magnaflow high flow cat on my s10 with the original 40 flowmaster.
