Is it just me or does Carter Beauford just seem like one of the most talented set players in the world right now? He just has a great sense of musicality about him. It's great...He's great!
Every version of this song I have heard with Jeff playing, it just doesn't sound right. I don't really like Jeff's sound, just isn't as clean or crisp as the late great LeRoi. RIP LeRoi. But I do like Tim's guitar playing, very nice!!!
@MonsterTruckManiaTV LeRois sax will always be musically better no doubt about it, you are not a true dave's matthews fan unless you agree with that statement. So yes i agree LeRois sound was so much better. Jeff likes to play fast and hard and he's a great sax player but it will never have the ability to put me into a trance like LeRoi did.
@Dnt132 Yeeeah...Or, instead of making jackass overarching statements insulting those of us who UNDERSTAND music, you could just admit that while Roi will be missed and was a different person than Jeff, Jeff has done an absolutely amazing job as the replacement saxophonist. Jeff is just as talented a musician as Roi, but it turns out that he's not Roi. Roi couldn't do what Jeff does and vice-versa. Deal with it.
@BreakFree04 sounds good way to assume (been playing the guitar for 10 years) , I pretty much said what you said at the end of your jackass overarching statement. they are both great, i also posted this 7 months ago things i dunno, things change? you hold a neutral argument that no one can disagree to, so this isn't really an argument. Good Point! any other obvious statement you wish to throw out there like even thought butch and tim are different they are both great musicians.
@MonsterTruckManiaTV Try listening. Jeff is just as talented as Roi. Is he Roi? No. But he's done a fantastic job and being a narrow-minded tool who thinks that only Roi can play sax for this band is absurd. Here's a tip: When Dave or Carter dies, DMb dies. That's it. I hate to say it, but the rest are replaceable....except maybe Boyd. Does that mean I hate Fonzy or Boyd? Hell no. I love them. It wouldn't be the same without them, but Carter and Dave ARE the band.
I MISS MR. BUTCH TAYLOR!!! !!!!! !!! and roi too, but we can't bring him back,,,,So lets bring back Butch and tone down Reynold's volume PLEASE! Love him playing, but it needs to be more in the background when he's not soloing...
@brdn94 ok i just listened to it again lol. He is on beat but i meant to say the violin sounds like crap. listen to it after the dude on the drums gets done and it goes back into the music lol. sooo bad.
i think tim is a great guitarist. but he should just stick to songs off of everyday, stand up, and big whiskey and the groo grux king. the ones WITH electric guitar. some other songs, like this one, tim should just leave alone.
My 2nd show/clip since Leroi passed away & like there show at Beacon Theatre, Jeff (new guy) has ALOT of talent & I think he's great, he's NOT Roi but, he's great - I will say this though I listen 2 this song & this song 4 some reason not the same as when Roi was playing & I think that's because Boyd & Roi fed off of each other so well but do I think DMB's gonna keep on rollin'? Oh yeah! I LOVE Big Whiskey & the Groo Grux King lil' different sound w/out Roi but there still my FAVORITE band!
haha yes, I know. I was actually front row and center for the concert (i'm not just saying that to sound cool. I really was lol) and that was definitely a soprano sax
how did this concert make it to a cd?! why not the one from hershey on 6.27? that was a 2 hour and 45 minute show! yeah dave had guitar problems twice it still was better than this show..

Love the incorporation of Tim's electric guitar on this version.

1. Are they using the electric guitar to fill in for the sax part? 2. Do they have a new official sax player yet?

Tim just makes the instrumental breaks sound confusing, I don't particularly like it, good guitarist, but the song just isnt for him.

Actually, people keep saying "clarinet" addition, but I'm fairly certain that is a soprano saxophone. Correct?
jrjorgensen2519 2 years ago 16
You are correct. it is a soprano saxophone. I'm glad to know that instrumental music hasn't completely died out yet.

Why isn't anyone saying anything about Jeff's solo at the beginning?
it was phenomenal.
Granted, not the same as LeRoi, but an amazing solo.
EquivocalUsername 2 years ago
I agree, it sounded terrific. The clarinet was a great add on to the show, he really gave a great performance as well.
I have to say though, I'm not a big fan of the distorted acoustic. I'm a bigger fan of the original sound :P
