  • My 1996 Honda Accord got stolen and I just got it back a couple days ago, They broke the lock key cylinder but I'm still able to start the car with a screwdriver. How hard is it to put a new cylinder back on for a beginner?

  • @BlinginTom It's a fairly easy project. This video will show you how to replace it. We also carry a new ignition for your 1996 Honda Accord on our website 1aauto.com Here's a link to it. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com/1A/IgnitionSwitch/Honda/Accord/1AZIS00011?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

  • @1aauto sorry for the double post but, I just took apart the steering column and whatnot but the two bolts to take off the cylinder at the top are broken off so its kind of just a stub and I can't twist it off. What should I do? I'm completely lost at how I should go about this.

  • @BlinginTom If there's nothing left of the bolt to grab onto. You may want to use an ez out to remove the broken stud.

  • hey bro i want to knw on the dashbord why key light flashing on honda accord 2000 even if i turn on the key and its keep on flashing and car starter runing but not starting do u knw wht happed ? may i knw please

  • @bullet62463 You may want to hook a scanner up to it to see if there are any codes that will tell you why the light is flashing. Hope this helps you out.

  • So Mike, my 94 honda accord was broken into and the ignition cylinder has been destroyed. The switch is good so I can turn the car on with a screw driver. But instead of a new Switch and Lock cylinder assembly I was wondering if I could install a push start ignition. I saw some on ebay for about $50 and given that I buy a good quality push start button, will that avoid the need to use screw driver to turn my car on?

  • @mohamadalikazi HI, you could either install a new ignition switch or the puch button one would work as well if you've found someone that makes them for your vehicle. We sell replacement ignition switches on our website 1aauto.com

  • okay, my steering wheel is locked and the key won't turn. i just got it towed. the tow man also tried the whole wiggle the wheel and key thing (which i have been doing for 4 days now and no luck). someone mentioned that maybe i need my ignition lock cylinder replaced. does this sound right? they also mentioned the ?assembly? but i don't even know what that is.

  • @imhis00 It's possible that the cylinder lock has become worn. We carry them on our maiin website 1aauto.com

  • I had this done at a shop and they weren't able to align the keyhole on the steering column cover with the ignition. They claimed it was because the part was used and not the exact same year as my vehicle, I am almost positive they are cheating me tho!

Is it possible that they just did not align the bottom connector tab properly when they bolted on the ignition to the steering column??

  • @igormantooth Everything should bolt back together as shown in the video.

  • i had a guy do mine for 300 bucks was that too much....??? and after he did it the signal lights and one of the brake lights went out?? do you know what it could have been?

  • @chiriquito I would take it back to the shop and let them know what happened. There may be a pinched wire somewhere that's causing this.

  • how much do these cylinders normally go for?

  • @chiriquito Here's a link to them on our website with current pricing. 1aauto.com/1A/IgnitionSwitch/Honda/Accord/1AZIS00011

  • I have a 1994 Honda Accord LX my bolt holding the ignition lock to the steering column are also a round factory bolt with no torn bit in the middle. Any suggestions??

  • @KindergartenHRP If for some reason it's held in by rivits you would need to remove the rivits.

  • Need one for my 97 integra cant find it on 1a/ your site

  • @timmyvechett At the current time, we do not carry one for the integra.

  • not knocking the video tho, it was very helpful and informative... thanks for the post...

  • Note: when coming across the 2 bolts at the top of the ingnition, MOST of you may come across blank head bolts or round head bolts. if you do, make sure you have a "Dremel" & a flat tip screw driver... or cheaper, purchase a "Center Punch" ... i have ran into this problem and failed to do a COMPLETE research due to thinking that all i would need was a 8 mm socket wrench... just F.Y.I.

  • Great vid, I have a 95 lumina and the ignition lock cylinder just turns when I try to start it but it dont start, and its loose any ideas?

  • @MasterNeko Vats ignition wires broke

  • Hi Mike, First of all thanks for these really informative time saving videos! On my 1995 Honda Accord EX there is no two 8mm bolts holding the switch on the steering column but two factory top rounded over bolts; any suggestions to break them free to install a new ignition switch?

  • @endymionsfate You're welcome. If there's a hole in the middle for a torx bit, that's what you would need to use.

  • is this the same for a 1993 accord?

  • @ChugFour This procedure is for the 94-97 model years. i haven't had a 93 here in the shop to take a look at. The procedure on that model year may be slightly different.

  • Hello. Great video & superb quality. I'm very grateful for the upload. My Honda Civic was stolen and recovered. The steering wheel lock is broken, the car can be driven, and anything flat can turn the car on. I can drive it but I'm not sure if I need to replace the entire steering wheel column or just the ignition cylinder. Any ideas? =)

  • @TheJovanist Honestly, I have no way of knowing how much damage was done to your car. Replacing the ignition lock should help with the problem of anything flat starting the car. There may be further damage though that either prevents you from replacing the lock or replacing the lock does not cure.

  • I have a 2000 chevy cavalier and it is so hard to turn the key and get it started would it be a good idea to replace the ignition Lock Key Cylinder?

  • @dpl1108121 Remove it, clean it, coat it lightly with graphite lock lubricant and re-install. If that does not help then replacing is the next step.

  • lol, ikr believe me it is

  • Hello, My car was stolen and my ignition switch is completly broken. Its a 2000 dodge intrepid it has to be started with a toothbrush or something long enough to activate it to start. Will I need to replace the whole thing like you did, and if so what should I buy to fix it,. I was so inspired by your video I am going to do mine. Its been a long journey getting the tires and things back on it and I need a tire bearing and a new cd player so.. any help would be great! thanks

  • @naria30168 Intrepid is a totaly different car. If your car starts and operates properly then you may not need a new switch you may just need to replace the lock cylinder. Although personally I think using a toothbrush is a definite conversation starter.

  • Can someone tell me how I know if my ignition switch is bad?

  • @pinktinkfairy What are the symptoms you are experiencing?

  • Very nice and clear video, thank you for taking the time to explain.

  • One important thing to add. There is one phillips screw under the coin purse. Open it and push it GENTLY to the left or right and tilt it out to get to the screw.

The rest of the drivers side skirt panel is secured by snap clips just pull down gently. Just putting that out there or you could damage the panel during removal.

I have a feeling whoever did the aftermarket stereo on this vehicle didn't reinstall the screw.

  • @Bushougoma Yeah there are screws missin all over the place on this car. Thanks for the addition.

  • Very helpful and clear. Thanks for taking the time :-)
