  • かっこいい!cool!

  • Interesting way to color. Seems unnecessarily burdensome to use the lasso tool like that though.

  • @wvhoblol That's how the industry pros are doing it and it gives a nice sharper look to the colors. But there are definitely other ways to do it. If you ever look up Nei Ruffino, she uses more of an airbrush looking method. Yet even she'll use the lasso for things. It's actually very helpful.

  • using lasso... hmm clever girl. :)

    .

seems like a pro way of doing it

    .

  • So there's a second collor after the shadow and the highlights.............hhhhhhhmmmm, interesting.......thank you!

  • sooo goood!!

  • guys can you give me any tips how im going to color my art please check that out im not kidding ive been a penciler for almost 7 years and still dont know how to color using photoshop my pal who colors my art is retired i need a good tutorial heres my web harveyfenelleredotdeviantartdotcom let me know what you think.. go to gallery and see my art right there..any tutorial will help me!!! regards!! harvey.

  • ...I think I'm gonna stick with penciling and inking lol. But I'm kinda learnin how to use photoshop at school. I suck at it though.

  • I can't tell, but it the sketch layer transparent?

  • good tutorial. moody superman,, cheer him up plzz lolzz

  • Great vid. Really helped me figure out some things ^^

  • look at the title is does not have tutorial in the title so there is no need for a narration

  • Great Job. I'd've used a bit of Feather and Blur in some areas, but that's just me. It makes it smoother, and you could go back and erase unwanted areas.

  • usted es un master!!!!

    muuuchas gracias!!!

  • Gimp can do everything you just did for free.

  • @xabotage93 And torrents can get you photoshop for free

  • @xabotage93 but in more convoluted non UI friendly to use ways...(which are worth the price of photoshop alone)

  • Great!

  • amazing

  • this fucks my brain out

  • Man he is pissed.

  • Pls

  • can photo shop element 8 do this

  • how do you separate the white from the black in one go in order to get rid of it? if you're scanning a drawing done by hand that has a lot of floating lines. how do you do that without sitting there the whole time with the wand for hours.. is there a way?

  • @joker9494949494 convert B&W hi-rez scan to greyscale or color. Convert layer (by double-clicking in Layers palette) to Layer 0 (or name it "inks" or whatever) instead of "background. Select ALL. Control (or cmd on mac) +X to cut selection. Turn on QUICKMASK mode (bottom of tool palette). PASTE into QUICKMASK MODE. (Image will show as red). Click OFF QUICKMASK mode to turn red area into a SELECTION. (You may have to invert selection depending on your settings.) FILL Selection with BLACK. ta-da!

  • incredible...

  • @3rickenji

very fucking neat. thanks bro thats some cool techniques

  • Wow.... This is outstanding. if I could do this, I would do it every day. Photoshop frustrates the fuck out of me.

  • How freakin awesome is this!!!!!!!

  • why when you use your brush, it makes a gradient

  • its realy cool but can u make a video that kinda verbally explains it?

  • check out my drawing of superman

    /watch?v=2jqOZLqM5x4

  • to answer the question about how he got a gradient like fill effect with his brush is you have to create a layer > blending options > stroke(very bottom of the "styles" list) > fill type and change it from "color" to "gradient". you will then be able to change the direction of the gradient. you will also see a blending mode option which i think would be rather handy as well when painting

  • i have a question , please answer this how did you color the eys like wat kind of a leyr is it ? is is overlay ?

  • 0.o

  • i really like your technique! upload more videos

  • How did he make the lights Layer. the dark part transitions so smoothly into the lighter portion above. I don't know how to do that.

  • this is amazing. I have so much to learn.

  • you should add commentary

  • BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

  • I can draw that in 5 seconds!

  • @xquickstrykex

Yes, I've seen your thor drawing. You have a loooong way to go, kid. A long way.

  • @Domzdream Only joking Mr. Dense.

  • @xquickstrykex

    Oh. Whoops. Sorry.

See? That's what I keep telling my freinds. Youtube should have some sort of icons to insert into comments section to assert an emotion or a standpoint. Or an attitude. They keep changing the layout here and there but not really evolving the 'language' or communication on their forum.

  • @Domzdream I mean seriously haven't you seen "Napoleon Dynamite"?...and thanks for your concern but I can do much better than that Thor drawing, that was for an "Anime Thor" drawing contest and i'm not pleased with it either, its dull, rushed, and not dynamic but anyway, I was only joking, of course this Superman rendition is brilliant...enough clarity for you?

  • @xquickstrykex

    Relaxe. Breathe. It's all good.

  • @Domzdream Haha I had to state my claim, ramble a bit I know.

  • thanks for share

  • This is really awesome. I wish I had seen this before I did my day 1 drawing challenge: self portrait. I was having trouble with shading. This would had made it so much easier. What were you typing into every-so-often? I keep getting an error in attempt to add a direct link on deviant art. My deviant name is Esbest.

  • YES SUPERMAN

  • Awesome!!!!

How do you make the sparkle on his eyes?

  • his eyes are meant to be red......

  • 01:07 how can I choose a brush like that?

  • Sick man you got skills! My brother asked me to show him an example of the word "detailed", I showed him this video! someone I think I deserve a thumbs up for the effort lol, it was better then "thumbs up if you like this video".

  • Sick man you got skills!

  • superman looks kinda grumpy

  • good work..now can u explain how u done all this...comments asking u how u did it...its tight, but whats the secret? should of had a narration or something, good stuff tho

  • @JustSketch1 I agree. Great visual teachings, but some narration would help even that much more. Fantastic coloring by the way.

  • @JustSketch1 This is all pretty basic Photoshop stuff explained in other tutorials, which you can find just about anywhere. Not just on YouTube. The big difference with this one is that it's been sped up, so you can see the full process of actual work. Whereas with other tutorials, you're only going to see a few demo steps, but not hours and hours of work. Which wouldn't be practical.

Note, there's multiple ways to do what he's doing. And none of them are right, or wrong. Just preference.

  • Thanks for sharing! This helped a lot!

  • Hi! You're very good! Could You tell Me, how You did the eyes? very curious :)

  • ok i'm an ultra noob...but why do u start off with everything red?

  • wow... you gewwd. I is so jellus.

  • Veeery good!

  • no sound ok ..... nice....

  • BÄÄM : D

  • @KalecAmagosh

Well, when you are selecting the color in the palette, you can simply adjust the lightness or darkness of the color to get your desire shade. oh look at meh, all textbookish an stuff... But yea, that's how you make sure the hue is similar.

  • Is there a quick tip, site or tutorial to help me realize how to select different shades of the same color ? like how you added sections with more light to the "S" symbol ?

Or for example if I were to paint hair, how do I select different hues of the same color to make brighter and darker sections.

Regardless if you have time to answer, I thank you :)

  • I have no idea on where to begin with this could you do a slower tutorial?

  • man how do you erase what you've seected with the lasso?

  • @zombiecrusherkrauser

    In Windows:

Hold down the shift key to make multiple selections with lasso tool.

The Shift key will also allow you to add more area to your original selection.

Hold the Alt key down to take take out selected areas.

  • man how do you erase what you've seected with the lasso?

  • would be lovely with audio.

  • What kind of brush/brush settings did you use when you switched to other dynamics?

  • What kind of brush/brush settings did you use when you switched to other dynamics?

  • pro :D

  • why is that white stuff on his face... is that cum. worse tutorial yet thanks for wasting my time.

  • @gunoverheating ever heard of highlight? :/

  • i wanna know how'da fuck benes or whoever makes the drawing that hes using!!

  • wher can you download this

  • This is more of a "look what I can do" rather than a "here's how you do it". You go so fast, it's impossible for anyone to follow you.

  • Jim Lee er Ed Benes for the win! hehehe

  • Comment removed

  • con que programa se hace eso?

    which program is this?

  • this is great and you're talented and all but this is not a tutorial

  • @catra195 Who says it is? its no even in the title ...

  • @vengadorsky well he should take this LINK down from photoshoproadmapdotcom under TUTORIALS

which clearly states tutorial to draw Superman

in fact I'm so annoyed that i just got tricked by his link again

I'm gonna mark this video as spam even tho misadvertisment is on a diff site

  • Great tutorial!

  • great skillz

  • very nice work

  • interesting: once I get a new computer that can handle high rez I may try something like this.

  • awesome!!

  • how did you do the suit so fast?

  • Great technique! Im curious, that blue outfit seemed to have come out of nowhere. How do you mask off his suit without going over the sketch lines? Do you fill in with the paint brush or do you mask off with the lasso? Or some other technique?

  • Tumbs up if you want a tutorial of PS painting.

  • his eyes are a bit fucked up...

  • Ps master!

  • ahh this video helps alot but i wish he could talk to us also.

    Great WORK!

  • this is way too fast and I really need more details about the layering you've got going on in there.

  • Nice Work!

But I hate to be the pain in the ass to bring up that Superman's hair isn't brown...

  • that's so cool! :D

  • Great job. thanks For you

  • Does anyone know how he made the entire image one color?

  • @dreaslives : you need 2 layers, the first one is the backghround layer which is line art with white background, the second is the lights layer, which is basically a gradient fill... then you double click on the background/lineart layer, and hit enter (with this you convert the background layer to a normal layer, now you can move this newly converted layer to the top, and set the style to multiply, et voila` here you have it.

  • @abysss24 Thanks so much, I've been selecting and erasing foreverrrrrr. Obviously, this is inefficient. lol.

  • @dreaslives : you're welcome ;)

  • Does anyone know how he made the entire image one color? I thought you could only do that if you deleted all the negative space.

  • lol never thought to do it like that... very informative video, thanks a bunch! *favs*

  • that was amazing !

  • cool!

  • good work ! :D

  • i'm working with photo shop on school, and i know how hard it is to do stuff with photo shop. if i was only half as good as you i could skip those lessons :P

    man you are awesome! ;)

  • How are you drawing separate elements like the highlight areas with the lasso tool? It looks like each section is separate and closed off. I can't get mine to do that for some reason.

  • @SteevDragon67 use shift when making another selection and it will work

  • @upsarinpastile Thank you for that advise! I tried it, and ta da.... it worked!

  • How do you use the lasso tool like that!!! Experience no doubt, a very steady hand, do you color in pictures for a living, comic books and the like!!!

  • After you make the selection, hit ctrl H to hide the selection. It's still there, just invisible. Hit ctrl H to make it visible again. This way you can see what you are painting without the ants getting in the way. Check my channel for free REAL-TIME tutorials, training at a college level.

  • Wow so good, you can work for comic book production now!

  • these are pro skills man! congrats!!

  • That was sick! very nice!

  • pro

  • MAGNIFICO...WOWWWWWW:):):):):)

  • I see years of practice right there!!!

  • I never even thought to use magnetic lasso to paint! Thanks!

  • Watch this video to get video tutorials on photoshop tips and tricks - youtube.com/watch?v=wg-MqQwG5z4

  • Que hueva , poder hacer cosas mas utiles y ponerse a colorear en el photoshop , esta bien tu video ,y disculpa si te llegué a ofender

  • Learn2microphone, bro.

  • nice work, but we only saw the shading process, the rest was done before hand...

  • What are the brush settings for when you make the gradient-like shading on him?

  • frickin awesome

  • i am going to try thins now

  • it looks really rich but it must take a long time right? it seem too .....idk difficult/ time consuming?

  • How do you set up the lasso tool to let you select multiple areas like that?

  • @trb0myk I figured it out

  • @trb0myk Thats exactly my question as well.

  • @trb0myk : first select your first area, then hold shift, as soon as you begin drawing the next area, you can release shift.

  • @trb0myk Just pres Ctrl while selecting

  • @trb0myk I don't know if this is the answer to your question but hold CTRL when lassoing. It will add up what you are selecting to the previous selection(s).

  • @trb0myk Hold down the shift key when you go to make another selection.

  • @trb0myk Quick Selection tool, either hold ctrl or alt whilst using this tool to select multiples. Hold over the magic wand tool, second from top I think it is from memory. Hope I helped :)

  • @trb0myk You hold ctrl down and it will allow you to lasso multiple areas.

  • @trb0myk When you have lasso tool selected there are 4 boxes on the task bar. The default is new selection the one to the right of it is "add to selection"

  • @trb0myk select your are and afterwards hold shift. You will see a little "+" will appear. Thats my way to use that. If you hold alt is the deselect way

  • @trb0myk hold shift.

  • @trb0myk SHIFT + click and drag

  • @trb0myk

you hold the shift key while using the lasso tool....

  • @trb0myk shift + select more of what you want!

  • @trb0myk you just use it to select something...then use it to select something else...it doesnt undo the previous selection

  • @trb0myk use the shift key to add selection areas

  • @trb0myk you have to press SHIFT to add an area, and ALT to remove an area

  • @trb0myk you hold "shift"

  • @trb0myk : At the top left corner underneath File, Edit, Image, Layer, etc there are four boxes that have different functions.

    New Selection

    Add To Selection

    Subtract To Selection

    Intersect With Selection

The second box that looks like two boxes glued together is the "Add To Selection" box. This is what you want to select in order to select multiple areas to work on or add onto an area already selected with the "marching ants" marquee. Then you can select as many things as you want.

  • In Windows:

    Hold down the shift key.

  • you gave me an artgasm

  • its so great :D can you say me, where i can get the photoshop? i dont find it...

  • Amazing i would never had though to use the lasso tool to help shade. Interesting great work that video will really help me out down the line.

  • Ed Benes is good, Ivan Reis is AWESOME!

  • Hi rick nice work - i wonder why you keep using marquee and not brush immediately it seems you are adding an extra step which takes time and makes some of your shapes very hard. Curious... but nice results ill be following yer work!

  • nice!!!

  • nice channel and cool videos ....check mine too :)

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi, I have Photoshop Elements...does it matter what type of Photoshop?

By the way, What an awesome drawing!!!

  • thank you

    you help me a lot

  • awesome!! mm how did u get that background colour??

  • It´s really not as good as some people think it is. The drawing is probably just scanned in and not done by himself and the coloring has an unnatural, almost plastic like quality, even for a comic book look, especially in the face. And the lighting is inconsistent. I really could do better.

  • @Parz1fal ok

  • how to draw tutorial?

  • big whoop, all comic coloring looks the same as does most comic art...zzzzzzzz, boring

  • @TRE1275 So, you could do better? Don't diss art if you can't do better. If you didn't like it, post what you didn;t like about it. Post what you did like about it. Rate it. Learn to criticize.

  • How much time do you spend to this Picture?

  • Comment removed

  • @JohnnyDeppLover4Life It's not a tutorial....

  • how do you get rid of the lasso lines ??

    btw this freakin awesome bro........

  • @xaviahz ctrl+d

  • amazing. What did you first learn when developing your skills?

  • this is good but i've seen better...AH!! who am i kidding this is the best one in my life!!

    XD

  • that is amazing, when I grow up, I wanta be just like you!

  • ho...lly shit!!! that was really good! ok it was on fast forward but i will try it too!!!
