You gotta be a young person. Style of Motown is distinctly black musicians. And yes, a white guy that sings well is often mistaken for a black Motown singer. On radio it happened often. I know I did. Long before YouTube, music videos we had a few programs and concerts, albums, word of mouth and concerts to get all the information across. Sometimes it was a couple of years late from CA to remote southern states in rural areas. What a snotty attitude that its not a tribute instead.

Some people are proud of their color and style of music and its OK and correct to say so. In the past to not be recognized as a successful black singer was insulting to overlook their race. Time to move on people so we can distinct colorful music again.

Saw them both in concert. McDonald this summer in Pittsburgh PA and Kenny Loggins in 1978 in Pittsburgh PA... Michael is still HOT and amazing... Kenny Loggins needs to tour.......these guys are TRUE MUSICIANS with amazing voices!!!! Would LOVE to see Kenny tour again......

I don't see it as an insult to observe that Michael has a timber to his voice that is not common in Caucasians. I just love it. I love the voice of Goliath in the animated series Gargoyles, Keith David. And of course, James Earl Jones. There are some differences, such as how black and white skin scars differently, and I don't know the reason for African Americans having a richer timber more often than white folks. When my daughter was 3, she asked why brown people are more beautiful than white.

I love the ignorance of some people..when a white man sings soulfully, he's a "white guy that can SAAANG", as opposed to just being a "man that can sing well" - his colour is put on the forefront. This is no different than saying "That chinese guy that can sing rock and roll. Singing with soul is universal, at the end of the day what is most important is the talent of an individual. All I care about is the way that a person uses his instrument, not the colour of the man or woman behind it.
