Dude why the fuck would you major in Social Work? Major in Biology, Chemistry or Engineering. Thats what I've been thinking of doing, maybe you should have taken a vast era of courses.
DID YOUR DAD GET SUED FOR ALIMONY AND CHILD SUPPORT FOR BEING A STAY HOME DAD OR WAS HE ABLE TO STAY UNDER THE RADAR FROM THE FEMINIST MEN HATERS OF AMERICA.
I admire your parents method of dealing with income. Its nice to see that your father showed wisdom and did not let ego interfere with the benefits of the family. That is what a REAL man does!
i went to a business college and my first year and a half i was homeless but i knew alot of dealers on the street and i moved a little of this and a little of that but when a graduated i didn't have a bill what i'm just saying is to find a way like i did it wasn't the best option but i did it and that's it i can't take it back i'm not proud of it but there are a lot of things in life we are not proud of.
The only thing I don't understand is why anyone would go to such an expensive school for a degree in social work. Other than that its not your fault this is happening, the bank loan is inflated!
College can be essentially a rip off when looked at from a business perspective. A lot of these really big schools are making hand over fist in money through tuition and sports income. Yet their students are struggling to pay off loans. Its no one's fault except for the students who took the loans in the first place. But if the USA really cared about preparing it's citizens to compete in the world, post-secondary education would be free or tuition would be based on income. Its all a business smh
Its really sad how America is squeezing the financial life out of citizens. Wake up my fellow neighbors, our government doesn't care about us because they're getting fed. We need to help out each other. Don't get into debt PLEASE. Stay debt free as much as you can. Debt is not good. Live within your means. Don't rule out community college and trade schools. They are affordable and can lead to a job so you can afford higher education. College doesn't have to be completed in 4 years. Be diligent.
Honey you are not a thief, the goverment is the thief and the abuser here, you should have not been able to get a 100k loan as a student, with no job and no established profession they fucked you. And its not like the bastards are going to get the money back anytime soon, so they are fucking you and our economy.
Every time Congress raises the loan limits for Student Loans, dishonest colleges raise tuition to match increased borrowing ability. These dishonest acts by the Federal Govt to make & guarantee huge student loans distorts the Free Market. Colleges are also quite guilty as they hold a monopoly illegal on the market & charge obscenely high tuition. Lastly, lawmakers who removed standard consumer protections from student loans broke contract law by changing the terms of the contract after the fact.

I wouldn't worry about it. Tell CityBank you don't want anymore calls from them. If they don't get the message, send them a written message that you don't want to be called anymore. At least in California, creditors have to quit calling you if you request it. I probably owe $100K too and I havn't paid anyone in 5 years. And here's why you should not stress about... THE ECONOMY IS CONTRACTING! It is not possible to pay it off. Just forget about it. City Bank are a bunch of thieves anyway.
Why did you go to NYU, one of the most expensive, if not the most expensive, uni in the US? Especially when you knew you were going to major in a career that is notorious for high volumes of work and low wages? With that 30K, you probably could of graduated debt free from a public CUNY or SUNY.
I used to be one of those pre-med and law-pre idiots until i transferred into wood products manufacturing. I go to a large public state college, have a $60k salary job offer and my department gives out scholarships. don't "major in something you like" if there are no jobs for it then complain about the debt you have. you could have done so many other things but you wanted to be cool. your choice your problem
Wow! That really sucks. I'm deciding whether to go to college or not. Through my investigative research, I found that it really doesn't make any sense, only depending on you major (Medical, Engineering, Law). But getting other majors, then trying to find a job proves to be more than difficult. Do you think college was worth it? Thanks, and keep on fighting!
@TacticalFighters3 Look for schools with a major wood products, wood products manufacturing, or wood science/tech. that field has 100% employment and departments regularly have scholarships for just being in the program. dont go for stupid shit like psych/soc or business
THAT'S EXACTLY WHY I DROPPED OUT OF COLLEGE AND STARTED AN ONLINE BUSINESS AND NOW IM MAKING 300%+ MONTHLY RESIDUAL PROFIT ON MY WORK.. IF YOUR INTERESTED IN KNOW WHAT IM DOING CALL... (646) 255-9054 ill be happy to take your call
This scars me so much because I wanted to go to NYU, but the cost made me turn the other cheek. The next school I planned on attending was just as much as NYU, but wasn't accredited. And now the college I'm attending is affordable, but doesn't offer what I want. So I ended up sacrificing my career intentions for an affordable education. What's the point anymore- it's like college is a rip off.
@alanamychls i know....life is unfair. This recession isn't going to improve much in this decade, but dont worry, hang in their buddy.....you still have plenty of time left in your life..this isnt the end. You can still continue your education after working. you have had a bad yes....but the ending is your decision. Just remember...please please..DONT TAKE OUT BIG LOANS FOR HOUSES, AND DONT GET MARRIED TO YOUNG. Divorce is very expensive. Anyway good luck :)
@alanamychls you can get a good career from a cheap school. what matters is if you decide if you are going to school for partying and intellectual masturbation or i fyou want to work
its like 4 grand a year here to get a bachelor of science (in canada, probably most UNI's)
plus living expenses.
i empathize with you though video uploader. finish your education as you need to, work to get yourself a long term job, and start making those payments.
you will feel like a new man once you can at least not worry about making the payments anymore. you can adjust accordingly to paying the said amount every month for many years.
@adamgm84 Schools costs more because they are more prestigious. I go to a large public school that is cheap. I have 0 in debt. i have a 60k job offer and I am not out of school yet. another thing is major. too many people do easy stupid shit that is popular but doesn't have good jobs. I'm in wood products manufacturing. if college students cared more about getting a job instead of getting four years of partying we wouldn't have a problem. i have no sympathy for people with student debt
I'm sorry for your situation - but then again, you did get an education and have the obligation on paying back your loans. The unfortunate thing is - if your parents are cosigners to your loan, they are also responsible for your debt.
@Trillasecond Thanks for the feedback. I'm planning to (and actually have been intending to for the past couple of months) to record a follow-up vlog on this. I hope that vlog means more because in that one, I will def have more positive news to share.
dude, social workers make great money, America has over 6 million people in prison, more than any other country even China with 4 times the population. The prison Industry is huge here, you'll get great pay, prison guards in California with no degree make over $100,000 a year *dont say I'm lying, look it up people!!" People with degrees can make that money in prison system, plus incredible benefits, You need to apply to every state and move to where you need to go.
@CeletenteFan223 Yea, there's money in all kinds of fields for sure. I always thought the clinical side of social work (private therapist, private hospital social worker) was where the money was, but I suppose prison work is there too. Helping people who's been incarcerated adjust back to society has always been one of my social work goals, but even being in this loan situation, if I were to consider it, I still wouldn't consider it for the money, but for my passion in the social work field.
@CeletenteFan223 We need less of this "soft skills" bullshit and more manufacturing. too many people go for some mainstream degree and expect a job to just magically appear. manufacturing degrees have easier times looking for jobs over an ology or business degree
@FocusFalcon2 Dont you remember in the 90's when Al Gore and Clinton told us that the future was the service economy and we could all make livings mowing each others grass, serving each other food and cleaning houses?? Remember when Al gore said that The NAFTA treaty's were "a good deal for America" on Larry King? Manufacturing is gone from America and it's not coming back. Now privately owned and US federal Prisons have slave labor just like Hitlers Prisons and they pay like 3 cents an hour.
@CeletenteFan223 Do some research. It was Reagan that forcefed that service sector economy bullshit to everyone.Yes Clinton did a backdoor move with NAFTA that destroyed manufacturing but most people dont care. Reagan gave us the spill about making other countries do our "real work" and look where we headed. most people don't care as long as they keep college/professional sports going and the mall open
@CeletenteFan223 hey i have no job, i am about to default on my mortgage, I have over $50,000 in student debt, they are raising the retirement age until after I'm dead but hey I can keep my guns, they stopped the fags from getting married, and i saved $5 on retail consumer products the last time I went to WalMart. the american people did this to themselves
@koyfishie9 It's not really the profits that the banks make that bothers me, it's how they use it (usually investing and divesting, or what I'd like to call "legal gambling") and how rigid they are with the payment plans. If CitiBank allows me to extend my payment plan to 15 years and have me paying $540/month, instead of $863/month for 10 years, I wouldn't really be suffering this badly.
im so glad I did a refrigeration& aircon apprenticeship. I got paid during my 4 years and now work on commecial hospital and skyscraper BMS controls earning 80-90k a year plus work car, phone and laptop.. but I guess most people seem to look down on 'blue collar' jobs
@beaco1989 unfortunaty though, you usually need to have close contacts in the business to get those jobs, most the time you need to have family in the business to get your foot in the door.
@beaco1989 It's definitely a shame that blue collar jobs get such a bad rep. You guys do real hard physical labor. When I walk down the streets that are kept clean and I see the marvel of buildings that still stand tall and plumbing system that still works, I think of all the sweat and work that went into them. Janitors, technicians, electricians, I think of them as my daily heroes. Thank you for being a hero. And I'm glad you're compensated well for your work.
@beaco1989 I know. good stuff. I am in wood products manufacturing. People laugh at me all the time when I tell them about it but they are in ignorant crap like psy/soc, business, and mainstream engineering that are saturated with degrees and not enough positions. Friday I sign papers for a 60k starting salary. I have 0 debt and I have no sympathy for people with student debt. if you want to get a job then get a degree that will get you a fucking job. don't jack off for four years
@beyluv2 I do have a lot of regrets but to answer your question, social work is still my biggest passion. The bigger what if for me is, would I have tried to enter the jobs field right after I graduated with a BSW or would I have just gone straight to grad school to get my MSW? That question is harder for me to answer as confidently. But my philosophy in life has been to do what I believe in, and to believe in what I do. Social work is what I'm interested in, and that's why I ended up here.
@FuckObama2010 citybank wouldn't have the power if people actually did reasearch on what careers are available. instead there are people doing a mainstream degree then posting a bitch rant like this guy. wood products and paper science at my school has 100% employment but not many people want to do it because it is not cool.
KEEP PLUGGING ALONG... it took me YEARS to get work after NYU... lots of part-time jobs and self-learning... You'll find your "niche" , but it might take years of trial and error. You might not go into social work, but end up somewhere totally else. Try putting up ads on craigslist services section renting yourself out by the hour as a personal assistant going to peoples houses filing their papers, clean up, babysit, PET SIT (you can get paid to board dogs and cats at your place too.
@FuckObama2010 Thanks for the feedback. Ironically enough, I thought I was gonna end up a dog walker, just to pay rent and whatnot. But somehow, I got the attention of one of the biggest homeless organization in NYC and am currently working in its newest and one of its largest homeless shelter. Not quite social work yet, but it's def a step in the right direction for me I think.
Education and America are oxymoron. Americans will always suffer from their poor education because at its core is not to teach anything but to charge money for attendance and books.
Education and America are oxymoron. Americans will always suffer from their poor education because at its core is not to teach anything but to charge money for attendance and books.
We are always being told to go after our passion. That is what gets us into trouble. This is what destroys marriages, leads to unplanned pregnancies, credit card and student loan debts etc. We should stop going after our passion, stop dreaming and become realists.
@Bergkristall That view can be destructive as well though, because once we start thinking too much in that manner, we start losing the motivation. To achieve great things, you simply need to be passionate and motivated about the things you do.
But I agree somewhat; passion definitely can be dangerous.
@solidkwon You know, this is part of the progressive lack of competitive attittude in the US. In Argentina, you can get a University degree for free. I got my economics degree FOR FREE and I have an international career (meaning, it is a good education). We work during the morning-afternoon (until 17:00) and then, in the evening, we go to the University (17:30 to 22:30) every day. By graduation, we are not only debt free but with years of work experience. Sold a house for college? Jezz.
I am sorry about your situation. But I also have to say if you and your family had actually followed the bibles financial advices these things would not have happened. Also, a woman should never be the main bread winner in a family, if the husband is fit to work. Open up the bible, pray and ask God for advice. His Word will guide you.
@Bergkristall The ironic thing is, my dad's a pastor... Both my mom and dad were fit to work. So they both worked. It just happened that my mom as a nurse made about 6 times more money than my dad did, hence why she was the bread winner of the family.
Still, though, this notion that we ended up in a financial strut because my mom worked and not my dad, kinda sexist, don't ya think?
Kwon i here ya i am in the exact same boat, College is a racket it really is. To think that schools have there hands in the pockets of bankers is outrageous. There has to be something said for the fact that these schools egg us on to attend; yet when their money is needed its gimme gimme gimme. I for one will stand anywhere and be the thorn in corporate college's side..... Keep fighting and refuse to pay, Say i was doing what many others have done in the past, except now colleges is for the rich
@fritoman182 yeah they are too common because people would rather major in something "cool" and "interesting" than get a real job. of course then they post bitch rants like this acting like they are a victim. victim of their own ignorance
I wish you the best kwon, hopefully you'll manage to pay off your student loans at some point and build up your credit rate again from scratch if necessary.
@AgentAMi6 Thanks. I'm not too worried about my credits rating or anything. If it gets screwed up, it gets screwed up. My disappointment in myself of not being able to pay it off will haunt me more. But at least the best I can do right now is try my hardest, progress inch by inch, you know. I don't know if I'm making it, but at this point, I'm glad to feel that I'm going somewhere at least, even if its by mere inches.
@solidkwon Damn, dude, I was worried that you were going to end the video by saying, "Thanks for watching. I'm going to kill myself now" I've been through college and paying of loans sucks. I blame the banks but in the end I blame the school more (since they set the tuition). I think we've all been fucked over and now are slaves. Anyways, awesome video, hang in there because there's A LOT of graduates that can't find a job!
there are some careers that asians should not go into: social work, human resources, marketing, and some others.. those are white jobs .. should just stick with medicine, engineering, law, accounting, etc
@JogBird wow man, that's a pretty racist comment if you ask me. Social work in particular is a field where 35% or so of its professionals are racial minorities. But regardless, I think it's wrong to determine someone's career based on that person's race. Imagine if I said black people should just stick with being slaves, baby sitters, janitor, etc. Yeah, that's what I felt when I read your comment. >_<
@solidkwon not trying to be racist man. im asian myself. but take a look around; how many asian journalists do you see? how about judges, ceos, musicians, models, actors, etc. the world is racist. america is not meritocracy. do you know the japanese anime live action film AKIRA that is planned.. guess what, theyre casting all white actors. thats america for you.
@JogBird Well, yeah, USA since its beginning has always been racist. It was founded after all on genocide against its actual natives and on the slavery of blacks shipped from Africa/Middle East, and on the indentured servitude of European debtors/prisoners. But even so, that doesn't mean I won't stop trying. I'm not gonna fit into a stereotype; I'm going to be me, achieve what I want to achieve.
@SocialProblems2012 Thanks for the encouragement. From the time I made this vlog to now, a lot of things has improved with me. My loan situation is still very difficult, but I have a job I love, and I'm working very hard and gradually, very gradually it's paying off. At this point, I paid back CitiBank about $8,000. Whew, $97k to go...
don't pay them nothing declare bankruptcy. your got nothing to loss, they got billed-out billions and for your credit rate, you can build it again from bottom up. trust me i know what i am talking about.
@DAWAXXX That thought crossed my mind so many times, to just say screw it and give up on this loan.
The thing though is that I still plan on going to grad school at some point to obtain my MSW. I'll most likely need another loan for that - though this time it'll be much smaller - and obtaining a loan after having defaulted on a $105k will be nearly impossible. That's one big thing motivating me to keep paying back CitiBank as best as I can.
@solidkwon I don't think you can get rid of student loan debt unless you're completely and totally disabled(quadripalegic). If you borrowed money it off, the second loaner will fight your bankruptcy. There is really no escape, besides going underground. Indentured servitude is back unfortunately.
@solidkwon Tell them you want to defer payment due to Economic Hardship interest will capitalize But you will have more time (about 1 year) to get a good job and pay them .
What ever you do Dont Default your loan will be transferred to the department of education And your credit will take a hit.
Also most employers check credit to see if you are responsible.
Dont allow them to hit you with late fees Defer Payment Now.
That's a great attitude. Kinda similar to the one that helped contributed to the housing market. People couldn't afford it, so they said "fuck it." So what that does is pushes your debt onto everyone else. I wouldn't trust you to wipe my ass.
Your entire problem could have been resolved for the investment of six bucks. Buy a cheap calculator, pad of paper and a pencil. Write down how much $105,000 times interest charged devided by 12 is. Now take the average yearly salary of a social worker's salary and devide that by 12. You find real quickly that you could not afford college. PLAN AHEAD
Do what I did. Go to work for Sallie Mae as a collector and call those idiots that really believed what the college recruiter said about all those grand opportunities awaiting you if you just signed the eternal debt slavery document known as a Student Loan. My job at Sallie Mae was as a "Skip-Trace" specialist. I was the guy who found those tweebs trying to hide from the obligation they had agreed to..you know the dumbo who got their beloved undergraduate degree in Underwater Basket Weaving
In my opinion, you only go to college if you are trying to become a doctor in the health science fields such as medicine, pharmacy, optometry, dentistry, nursing, etc! These are the fields in which society go to if they are sick or in pain. These jobs cannot be eliminated. Just saying....
I have about 40,000 dollars in college debt for my high priced education. Do what I did, come out here to Asia and work. It's hard to be away from home, but it's better than not having a job.
Hey brotha. I was in the exact same situation as you. The sad truth is that like me, you're to blame for your situation, not your mum's recent job loss or your father's move. You invested almost 100,000 dollars into a degree based on an assumption that there will be jobs in that field. I know you want to say that you didn't know it was a bad decision, but think about it, you wouldn't have invested 100,000 into a business unless your were certain that it was gonna pay off.
@attituderoyale You're right; I wouldn't have. And it's difficult now, but I'm gonna try all I can to make sure that in the end, I'll look back to this time and be able to say to myself, "It wasn't a bad decision after all."
The best advise you could get is move to Asia, to freedom. Your parents left asia, most likely for the same reasons that you should go back. You can claim the citizenship become an English as a Second Language teacher. Your life will be much better, and you will be debt free.
Good Luck my fellow asian friend.... I do understand your situation as I am having the same problems myself ... just not as much as yours ! (Canadian schools are a LOT cheaper and Government does help you pay some of it !) Good Luck buddy.. I wish you the best !
This is your fault for going to one of the most expensive universities in the country for a BullShit degree in social work (one of the most useless degrees out there)...
Honestly I feel like Bankruptcy may be the only realistic option for you. If you can prove these loans have caused undue hardships you should be able to get out of them, alas your credit score will be ruined for life ( it probably already is though, so that won't matter much).
WTF man? Seriously. Why do people do this to themselves? Even if social work was in demand, you won't be getting more than 35K a year. It will take you 30 year to pay this off. Fuck what your passion is, you need to put food on the table.
Man, I am so sorry for what you are going through. I don't know, the best advice I can give you is since you have already fucked up so bad is 1) file for bankruptcy (the court will definitely allow the debt to be cleared in your case). 2) Forget about your field of study. 3) get a minimum wage job somewhere, get ripped (do bodybuilding), get lots of girls, enjoy your youth. Forget education, you are young, enjoy life. Money does not equal happiness.I know this advice is harsh.Have fun/enjoy life
So you spent $140k+ in four years? Damn, I dropped out of high school and have been a fuckin' garbage man making $65k/year. College sounds like it sucks LOL!
I thought I had it bad with 42k. I know what that weight can feel like. Things turned around for me. Now I am making 1700 dollar a month payments because more than anything I don't want that weight on my shoulders. Even with my loans I had to pay about 3600 a year just to break even on the interest. Paying it off fast is saving me about 30,000 dollars. People need to understand this better when they take out these loans. I didn't know at the time.
its all part of the plan fall of america and the world.its all going down as part of the PLAN....READ "the new order of the barbarians google it it will show you the plans and whats coming next...food shortages and higher prices with no jobs..
its going to be worse the the 1929 crash ...check out alan watt at cuttingthroughthematrixDOTcom you need to put the . in where the dot is (youtube thing) learn what really happening its ALL PART OF THE PLANED AGENDA
bankruptcy...and wait it out seven years. No excuses for falling that far in debt- even if it was for school. My community college costs about $1500 a semester.
You are just a walking dollar bill to America. That's it! Why do you think public school is free? Why do you think there are so many debt consolidators, so many bankruptcy cases. This is not new. It's business. People are so excited to dive into this beautiful lake but when they land it's infest with sharks. They are fooling everyone! My buddy school loan is one amount. By the time he pays it, he would've paid it 1.5 times over. When will we learn, it's a big lie and scam
makes me feel so grateful...but dude! sell something!!! be a seller..ur a chinese descendant..entreprenure is in your blood! photographs, souvenir even food..u'll pull through
Hey man, this is Joseph. I spent the night at your place last winter during my military training. Thanks a lot man. Also, I know how hard it is with your loans. Thankfully the military has helped me out. I'm glad your debt collectors are nice to you. But if they weren't you can tell them to stop calling and by law they have to stop calling.
@jpzxcvbnm Oh, hey man, so good to hear back from you. A bit surprising (I guess I'm that easy to find on the net, eh?) but yea, thx for the comment.
I didn't know they have to stop calling by law if I ask them to. That's real good to know.
And man, I really need to make another video updating how I'm doing on my loans now. It's been about 7 months since I posted this vid; I'm actually now down to owing CitiBank about $98,000.
You know what you can do? Borrow more money from CitiBank and buy a plane ticket, fly to some island and stay there. Live in the wild and then say "FU CitiBank". Just make sure no one find you and set up your territory with signs saying "CitiBank Are Not Welcome". Yes this is my plan after college.
I'm not alone.....feels like it sometimes though. I owe $50K myself for my education.....got the degree but now i'm stuck at a dead end part time job I hate thats barely paying enough to live on. This economy sucks.......
@MrMagnificentX lol, well, it's always on my mind, but I still see that as a copout. I got myself into this mess; Ima try my best to get out of it myself. If I tried everything and still can't do it, only then, as a last resort, I'll file for bankruptcy. It's not like I care about my credit score cause you're right; it's already fucked up. I've made it this far; I just don't want to copout for a bankruptcy just yet.
Went to college for technical degree in visual communication. Now i find that not only do i hate the work applied to my degree there are very few jobs. I dont know what the fuck to do. Should i even pay my debt? So many say its a scam anyway. I was pressured by everyone in my family to go to college now i regret it. To make it worse i see people doing work in my field for fun and free online. omg im fucked
@7255202 wow, sorry to hear that u don't like ur job field. I'm in a shitty situation sure but at least with me, I'm in a field that I love and enjoy doing.
Perhaps a good way to look at ur situation tho is that you at least have a job now. That means u can build up some money now and keep trying to branch out to something that fits you better and something you actually enjoy. ur not fucked, but just still searching for and figuring out what best fits you.
Dude....... do not feel bad about having 105k in debt. I know ivy league undergrads with biochem and engineering degrees that are 160k in debt out of college and they still DO NOT have a job.
The economy is the worst since the great depression of 1929. My advice is to hang in there and do your best to make ends meet.
Its tough for everyone - especially law student grads with almost 200k in debt and no legal jobs.
Hang in there and do your best man. Wish you the best brotha
@wutangwutang1 The fact that other people have bigger debt than me, (200k, that's nearly double what I have!), wow, that's terrifying. Man, so many of us are in such shitty situations...
@wutangwutang1 They are luring people into this. Everyone thinks that they have to have this law degree from Harvard, Yale, etc. Information is information. America taught people to go to these colleges and take out these huge loans. At 21, 22, who is really capable of making that decision? Of course 40k seems like nothing then. You're young and cocky. Now you are out, and realize you aren't getting paid what you thought and get screwed. They are exploiting people. Here take this 105K loan! SMH
yeah, $105k is serious money.. the fact the only asset conversion of that is what u've taken with u from college.. instead of say a house, real estate.. or an expensive car that didn't really decrease in value.. makes it hard, many ppl don't understand that but those ppl like u r in the same boat as those who r successful.. mentally.. but real world, is where the real seperate resides, not books.. common sense academia.. but imo self drive, focus, and knowledge from success of those is what..
@chanthien99 I like that you hate that comment. Sensible people should.
But I like to counter blanket statements like that with a bit of self-deprecating yet still a bit arrogant kind of joke. That's how I'd like to address someone who believes being born into a certain race determines how smart you are, with a joke that's just as non-sensical as the original statement.
OMG! Being that much in debt was your fault. You could have went to a CUNY school and gotten a great education and not have owed so much. You could have transfered to a CUNY school as well. NYU is a great school only because they upgrade their facilities and hire the best professors all on the backs of their students tuitions. I hope you will be able to pay that off.
Hang in there. Hope everything works out for you.

The only thing I don't understand is why anyone would go to such an expensive school for a degree in social work. Other than that its not your fault this is happening, the bank loan is inflated!
simplenametag 1 week ago
College can be essentially a rip off when looked at from a business perspective. A lot of these really big schools are making hand over fist in money through tuition and sports income. Yet their students are struggling to pay off loans. Its no one's fault except for the students who took the loans in the first place. But if the USA really cared about preparing it's citizens to compete in the world, post-secondary education would be free or tuition would be based on income. Its all a business smh
strovrpwr 1 week ago
Its really sad how America is squeezing the financial life out of citizens. Wake up my fellow neighbors, our government doesn't care about us because they're getting fed. We need to help out each other. Don't get into debt PLEASE. Stay debt free as much as you can. Debt is not good. Live within your means. Don't rule out community college and trade schools. They are affordable and can lead to a job so you can afford higher education. College doesn't have to be completed in 4 years. Be diligent.

And now the college I'm attending is affordable, but doesn't offer what I want. So I ended up sacrificing my career intentions for an affordable education. What's the point anymore- it's like college is a rip off.

dude, social workers make great money, America has over 6 million people in prison, more than any other country even China with 4 times the population. The prison Industry is huge here, you'll get great pay, prison guards in California with no degree make over $100,000 a year *dont say I'm lying, look it up people!!" People with degrees can make that money in prison system, plus incredible benefits, You need to apply to every state and move to where you need to go.
CeletenteFan223 4 weeks ago
@CeletenteFan223 Yea, there's money in all kinds of fields for sure. I always thought the clinical side of social work (private therapist, private hospital social worker) was where the money was, but I suppose prison work is there too. Helping people who's been incarcerated adjust back to society has always been one of my social work goals, but even being in this loan situation, if I were to consider it, I still wouldn't consider it for the money, but for my passion in the social work field.
solidkwon 4 weeks ago

CeletenteFan223 2 weeks ago
@CeletenteFan223 Do some research. It was Reagan that forcefed that service sector economy bullshit to everyone.Yes Clinton did a backdoor move with NAFTA that destroyed manufacturing but most people dont care. The profits banks make out of student loans should be illegal. It should be illegal, but we're a capitalist nation so education or not we're screwed.
koyfishie9 1 month ago
@koyfishie9 It's not really the profits that the banks make that bothers me, it's how they use it (usually investing and divesting, or what I'd like to call "legal gambling") and how rigid they are with the payment plans. If CitiBank allows me to extend my payment plan to 15 years and have me paying $540/month, instead of $863/month for 10 years, I wouldn't really be suffering this badly.

We are always being told to go after our passion. That is what gets us into trouble. This is what destroys marriages, leads to unplanned pregnancies, credit card and student loan debts etc. We should stop going after our passion, stop dreaming and become realists.
Bergkristall 1 month ago
@Bergkristall That view can be destructive as well though, because once we start thinking too much in that manner, we start losing the motivation. To achieve great things, you simply need to be passionate and motivated about the things you do.

Man, I am so sorry for what you are going through. I don't know, the best advice I can give you is since you have already fucked up so bad is 1) file for bankruptcy (the court will definitely allow the debt to be cleared in your case). 2) Forget about your field of study. 3) get a minimum wage job somewhere, get ripped (do bodybuilding), get lots of girls, enjoy your youth. Forget education, you are young, enjoy life. Money does not equal happiness.I know this advice is harsh.Have fun/enjoy life

I think you need to bank with Royal Bank of Canada they seem ok and i think they have american branches.

So you spent $140k+ in four years? Damn, I dropped out of high school and have been a fuckin' garbage man making $65k/year. College sounds like it sucks LOL!
Mikemaladar 2 months ago
It's a damn shame that as of 2008 even bankruptcy cannot save you from student loans. Don't worry though, you'll make it.
amongallothers 2 months ago
@amongallothers He needs to stop freeloading and pay that money back. You don't just get free education without working for it.

Were you an I-student in the states so as a result you had to result to private student loans for college? I am in a similar situation.

I didn't know at the time.

better put on a miniskirt and heels and go pay off that loan in the street corner. kwon

I think you guys are forgetting something, declaring bankruptcy does NOT get rid of student loans.

bankruptcy...and wait it out seven years. No excuses for falling that far in debt- even if it was for school. My community college costs about $1500 a semester.
try sample?

@jabjabgrab123 You can never discharge student loan debts in bankruptcy. They haunt you for the rest of your life.

Hey man, this is Joseph. I spent the night at your place last winter during my military training. Thanks a lot man. Also, I know how hard it is with your loans. Thankfully the military has helped me out. I'm glad your debt collectors are nice to you. But if they weren't you can tell them to stop calling and by law they have to stop calling.
jpzxcvbnm 3 months ago
@jpzxcvbnm Oh, hey man, so good to hear back from you. A bit surprising (I guess I'm that easy to find on the net, eh?) but yea, thx for the comment.
I didn't know they have to stop calling by law if I ask them to. That's real good to know.
And man, I really need to make another video updating how I'm doing on my loans now. It's been about 7 months since I posted this vid; I'm actually now down to owing CitiBank about $98,000.
solidkwon 3 months ago
You know what you can do? Borrow more money from CitiBank and buy a plane ticket, fly to some island and stay there. Live in the wild and then say "FU CitiBank". Just make sure no one find you and set up your territory with signs saying "CitiBank Are Not Welcome". Yes this is my plan after college.

I'm not alone.....feels like it sometimes though. I owe $50K myself for my education.....got the degree but now i'm stuck at a dead end part time job I hate thats barely paying enough to live on. This economy sucks.......

real talk though...your credit score is fucked...think about bankruptcy
MrMagnificentX 3 months ago
@MrMagnificentX lol, well, it's always on my mind, but I still see that as a copout. I got myself into this mess; Ima try my best to get out of it myself. If I tried everything and still can't do it, only then, as a last resort, I'll file for bankruptcy. It's not like I care about my credit score cause you're right; it's already fucked up. I've made it this far; I just don't want to copout for a bankruptcy just yet.

@solidkwon bad news buddy, im a current college student and you cannot discharge student load debt through declaring bankruptcy

7255202 3 months ago
@7255202 wow, sorry to hear that u don't like ur job field. I'm in a shitty situation sure but at least with me, I'm in a field that I love and enjoy doing.
Perhaps a good way to look at ur situation tho is that you at least have a job now. That means u can build up some money now and keep trying to branch out to something that fits you better and something you actually enjoy. ur not fucked, but just still searching for and figuring out what best fits you.
solidkwon 3 months ago
Dude....... do not feel bad about having 105k in debt.
Wish you the best brotha
wutangwutang1 3 months ago 16
@wutangwutang1 The fact that other people have bigger debt than me, (200k, that's nearly double what I have!), wow, that's terrifying. Man, so many of us are in such shitty situations...
solidkwon 3 months ago
@wutangwutang1 They are luring people into this. Everyone thinks that they have to have this law degree from Harvard, Yale, etc. Information is information. America taught people to go to these colleges and take out these huge loans. At 21, 22, who is really capable of making that decision? Of course 40k seems like nothing then. You're young and cocky. Now you are out, and realize you aren't getting paid what you thought and get screwed. They are exploiting people. Here take this 105K loan! SMH

.. makes the seperate parts really glow in different colors
AntDX316 3 months ago
yeah, $105k is serious money.. the fact the only asset conversion of that is what u've taken with u from college.. instead of say a house, real estate.. or an expensive car that didn't really decrease in value.. makes it hard, many ppl don't understand that but those ppl like u r in the same boat as those who r successful.. mentally.. but real world, is where the real seperate resides, not books.. common sense academia.. but imo self drive, focus, and knowledge from success of those is what..
AntDX316 3 months ago
Lol you went to NYU to major in Social Work? I thought Asians were supposed to be smart.
RjTheGenius 3 months ago 7
@RjTheGenius A lot of us are just book smart. I think us Asians tend to be the worst at common sense street smarts. XD
solidkwon 3 months ago 11
@solidkwon
You talked as if you represented Asians yourself.
You are not any good, but you made a statement like this. Such a joke!
chanthien99 1 month ago
@solidkwon
Don't get me wrong.
I hope you the best too.
Just hate your comment.
chanthien99 1 month ago
@chanthien99 I like that you hate that comment. Sensible people should.
But I like to counter blanket statements like that with a bit of self-deprecating yet still a bit arrogant kind of joke. That's how I'd like to address someone who believes being born into a certain race determines how smart you are, with a joke that's just as non-sensical as the original statement.
solidkwon 1 month ago 2
