  • much more refined and elegant playing than her younger performance, very clean and silky! but...have to say the recording quality was better in her older video..

  • this is amazing

  • very good

  • Ahhh.... Akiko san, how wonderfuly you play. Best in the world perhaps. The orchestra is not so good though, Akiko san.

  • the one in the 1990 Tchaikovsky competition is better

  • Every single sound is accurate, clear and strong.

Emotional expression is rich and full of grace.

  • but no salt on it....

  • just beautiful in every way

  • beautiful. how old is she in this vid?

  • 29 or 30 I think

  • she's a beauty

  • omg. woow, she plays sooo clean and good.

  • So I guess there's no cadenza?!?!?

  • she must really love the color red b/c that's the color she wore for a 1990 Tchaikovsky Competition playing the same song....I think it looks good against her pale skin

  • to my ear it's graet executions but interpretion dasent have mediterrain Warm!

  • shes got very nice long fingers and also nice fingering..

  • its nice to see A. Suwanai older and playing this piece. I personally prefer her younger video. But this was as great as well.

  • So much for sloppy intonation...does nobody ever realise that youtube doesnt exactly give the best audio experience? There's nothing like listening to this concerto live (which I attended recently but the solo violinist was someone else).

  • She was better in the 1990 video.

  • You mean better looking?

  • no as in she played better.

i think her technique is cleaner now, but she was better before

  • I agree with jaw :)

  • super very nice

    edmundo

  • 1st chair orchestra is such a showoff

  • for someone who gets to play a strad... cmon, shes not that great, listen to those sloppy runs, good tone production but lacks passion and clearness of notes on some parts its just not as good as some of the other people who don't get strads.

  • This is an opinion but I think Stradivaris are overrated. I've played a 1713 and a 1699 and to be honest, I liked a Lupot a million times better. Suwanai's Dolphin has a very bright sound.maybe too bright. I personally prefer a more darker tone like a Del Jesu or a Vuillaume for Paganini.

  • Stop being an elitist and post a video comment of you being "oh so amazing" please if she is "sloppy"

  • Well said onlucas, this assholes are only good to cricize others and glorify themselves.Of course they're just big mouthed jerks that probably were never good enough and the envy is killing them. Right 24Nerf and issavestheworld?

  • stupid masteria

  • she is going more faster than the orchestra...but it is good:)

  • Horrible. Sloppy intonation.

  • yes the intonation is sloppy for a professional who gets to play a stradivarius. Its barely noticeable but its noticeable if you have a really good ear.

  • ma perche' devi scrivere ste cazzate?

  • I wish I could hear the charisma... I don't care so much about the little "things" that happen here and there, but it is the same "nothing to it" interpretation as before. I could never figure out how she got the first prize in Tchaikovsky competition, either. She is just not a musician of caliber. Excellent technician, though, no criticism here!

  • Everybody's got their own opinions in violinists, just glad to hear you're not one of the "I don't like her so she sucks" people often on Youtube. :D If you get a chance, though, listen to her rendition of the Mendelssohn (which I don't think is on Youtube). That piece is her best performance, in my opinion.

  • A great amount of charisma, for sure. A great violinist itching to come out from deep inside I think. I had never heard of her. Bravo!!!

  • the orchestra looks specius. unlike somtimes when they squeeze in all the musician. great performance by akiko.

  • This one is so...I don't know how to explain it but I LOVE her interpretation this time around. Sure, those tough spots are a bit discouraging to thew whole piece but this interpretation makes up for it, in my opinion. But I noticed, particularly in this one two unrelated things. One she seems to have more confidence here and maybe that is what causes the mistakes; overconfidence. Second her fingers are so perfect for the violin. Long and slender...I wish I had those instead of my stubby hands.

  • Don't be too envious.... Just look at Perlman's hands... :)

  • Haha so, true. Perlman's bear hands that fly like lightning. XD

  • She's matured as a technician, and she sure plays with poise. (She's also a bona fide hottie after having shed her cute baby fat.) Except for the few messy passages, the performance is almost TOO POLISHED. Her 1990 performance, although less mature, sounds more passionate.

  • she looks gorgeous

  • A few mistakes. I prefer her performance from the 1990 Tchaikovsky Competition over this one.

  • I thought I was the only one who thought that her 1990 performance was better than this one. She did make a few stumbles here and there.
