Derren actually explained the trick with the board in other show. He said that there's always a person who pushes the glass or the other object they move. The trick is to suggest them they will have to do that. Some people are more open to suggestion, some not. That's why when Derren saw that the glass didn't move at first - he decided to change some people. The whole show is about to suggest them there's something going on when in fact nothing is happen or just they do it themselves.
It's the Ideomotor effect when the students were doing the witchboard, it's kind of your reflexive muscle reacting to what you know in your mind without even you knowing that your muscle is reacting to it!!! since most of the students have chosen Jane due to the strategically and carefully planned placement of the photos, most of the students would out to the letters of name of Jane during the experiment

Previously his instructions were to 'move diagonally' - therefore two-thirds of them would end up on the middle row anyway, & Jane is the only coloured photograph on the middle row. But of course he made the instructions sound confusing.
I knew i was gonna end up with Jane. But figured it had to be some mathematical trick by the way the coloured and b/w pictures were set up. The first city that came to my mind was Melbourne in Australia, then it shifted to London. Kinda obvious, however..i have no idea how he made Sally go to the correct room.

If you picked 'Dave' then you didn't follow Derren's instructions in the last video. The photos and instructions were arranged so that no matter which photo you started at, following Derren's instructions precisely will ALWAYS lead the audience to end up on 'Jane'. That 'breathe deeply and try to get a sense of the personality' stuff was just fluff surrounding the important instructions, and (if it served any purpose at all) only serving to further draw people into the desired frame of mind.
