What a drum solo! What a drummer! I saw Sweet Live at the Apollo, Glasgow, say around 1973. They were amazing. Mick Tucker did a drum solo, which was a combination of him Live on stage & a pre-recorded video of him in his home. The solo went from Live on stage, then lights out, then to the video, then lights out, then back Live on stage, & so on. Very innovative for the time. The support act were a band called Salvation, which starred Midge Ure. What a night.
This music is written by Elmer Bernstein for the 1955 movie "The Man With the Golden Arm" starring Frank Sinatra as a heroin addict who has a dream of becoming a drummer. Good movie, fantastic music, and there is a trailer here on YT.
His quality is the kind that when other good drummers hear him playing, they stop talking and crane their necks to find out " who the fuk is kickin' ".
Some guys have all the luck, why oh why didn't these guys become a worldwide success is a complete mistery to me and as far as I can see to many others, someone else quoted "So much for the British record industry", their "Give us a wink" albums is absolutely solid, and "desolation boulevard " is very powerful stuff, one does shake one's head and wonders.
Inesquivable la pieza; en esta versión la magnífica ejecución de guitarra eléctrica y, desde luego, la batería, la mejor de todos los tiempos (incluye africanos...). Nunca olviden reconocer la trompeta, es lo que la hace sexy...
I grabbed his drumstick at a concert in Odense in 1974. He threw a drumstick out to the audience after this number, and I grabbed it. It was the greatest day of my 12-year life, at that time. Wonder were I put it?
Mick Tucker was an awesome drummer highlighted by his prowess on this track. You can hear a live version of this on the 'Strung Up' album, recorded in the states if i recall?
This song was sort the highlight of the Sweet concerts in the Seventies, Mick Tucker playing the drums against a film shown of himself drumming on a big silver screen...
Which album is this off of? I've always thought his drumming was a "cut above the rest"....at that time the big names were Paice & Palmer...Mick was right up there with them....
The song "man with the golden arm" is from the album: Desolation Boulevard. The original Desolation Boulevard. Not the one relaesed in USA, wich is a mix of Desolation Boulevard and Sweet F.A, wich was released in 1973 in Europe.

Cor, this is one of my favourite tunes (from the Frank Sinatra flick of the same name). Good on the Sweet for tackling it.

Not bad. But there is so much from Ian Paices Solo from "The Mule" (on Made in Japan)... Nevertheless - I am impressed, great tune.
