Installing RO on a Mac

Derek, seriously, I'm desperate to play RO on my mac. hahaha Despite that I have a brand new macbook pro with OS X Lion and the only version of Crossover Games that I could run on it was the latest, I so damn lost! I`m new with all this Apple thing, so it would be good if could help me... D:

I'm sorry guys, but I really can't help anymore. Its been quite awhile since I played RO on a mac and each server is different. This isn't as simple as 1, 2, 3 and its done... you have to have some knowledge in how to modify stuff to make it work because each case is different. Sorry guys.

I tried crossover with a pserver RO and the only issue I have is not being able to connect. Have you had this problem?

What verison of crossover did you use to install it, cuz i know how you said you have to have an older version of COG, but i used version 8.1 to install it and whenever i start it up it says a serious error has occured and quits the application. I really wanna play this game and now idk what to do.. :(

If you're going to attempt it I would go with the full client, don't forget you need an old version of cross-over.

If you're using bootcamp then yes you can develop a private server. Parallels & Fusion will not work however because you cant' run the game using them and thus no testing. If you can get crossover to work then you could do it that way, but honestly if you plan on developing you should be using bootcamp.

It doesn't work with the new versions of cross over games, if you're using a new one that is probably your problem.

Well yes, try downloading as old of a version as you can find. If it still won't run then it probably has to do with the specific server you are trying to run.

I had that happen with a few servers, if that is the case I have no answer for you. For some reason some servers just won't install at all.

Its something to do with their install files.

You have to have access to a windows machine or download it online. I personally took the files off my windows computer.

I haven't used it in awhile, I've just been using bootcamp as its a much better solution.

However yes it could just be one server, I noticed that with certain servers it takes extra tweaking to get them to work.

When I was on the part where I install the server, my mac went to a Winrar archiverthingy. Was that supposed to happen? My file was an exe file, too.

Depends on the server, I had a pain getting on gatheringRO and then it was laggy. This is sort of a last resort, I personally use bootcamp now.

@ragezin I recently tried this Crossover method for my friends mac and had the same problem. I spoke to the GM for the server I play on (Avalon if ya'll are curious) and he said it's the newer version of Crossover has some sort of connection issue for Ragnarok within Crossover itself, so no issue with Ragnarok or your Mac. The older versions work for Ragnarok BUT, Bootcamp is guaranteed to work and is recommended over Crossover, period. Hope this helps. Btw - Check out my music and zeny plz lol

I've only got one problem though, I'm trying to join a private server, but this server doesnt have an installation file. So i guess there is no need to install it (on a windows system you don't have to install it either). What i did: 'run command' and ran the patcher, but this is where it goes wrong. The patcher loads, but it doesn't patch. I can 'start RO' , it will start, but i can't log in because of an error (its french): votre exe n'est pas a la derniere version.

Seeing as it isn't like the one I got to work, I honestly have no idea. For this I would suggest going to a cross-over forum or something and asking if there is anyway to self install a program seeing as it doesn't have a install program with it.

Those files are found on any windows xp computer, you can also download them offline. However there is always a risk with downloading files offline so I suggest you ask a friend to let you copy some files from their computer and just get them that way =]

this video has been helpful, but I've hit a snag.

The server I want to play on has no installer, only a full client download. I download the full client, but how do I "install" it into crossover games?

unzip the full client, then when selecting the file to install just select that file as the install one... If you can't select it then I don't see anyway to do it, sorry.

Best shot if you really like that server would be to use bootcamp, I have had a problem with my favorite server before so I've resulted in using bootcamp as well once -_- (I don't exactly like having to do that but ugh... gotta do what you gotta do).

You can install your server ontop of another server (just go download any old server) which has a setup file, that should work fine.

I should mention you can download those two files offline probably. I personally prefer to get them from a XP machine myself because then I know their safe.
