  • @magicmeerkatx I agree she IS Christine Daae. I can't imagine anyone else being her. Everyone who disliked this video, watch out for lassos. If you all somehow keep your hand at the level of your eyes, then he will burn you with the heat of his eye.

  • Her voice sounds so shaky, like she's so nervous.

  • Your just jealous cause she gets to make out with Gerard Butler....

  • Emmy's voice is good but not suitable for the musical. Christine should have a lot of different aspects in the phantom of the opera. She should be beautiful, angelic but shy in sometimes, sexy in sometimes, strong or weak in sometimes. I agree Emmy is very beautiful and angelic. But that's all for Emmy. Just a pretty girl as Christine, I think...

I can't see any other aspects in Emmy...her christine is so plain and looks flat T.T so sad.

No doubt she is good but It's not my type for Christine...

  • 202 people think they can sing better than Emmy Rossum. 202 people are severely deluded.

  • Makes me wonder if we really need Glee and American idol........just bring back variety shows where a person like Emmy can show off their entire skill set

  • Sarah Brightman is the best and will always be the Christine Daae to me. Don't get me wrong........Emma Rossum is great!!! I love Emma's voice....... it's just...... I love Sarah Brightman even more..... and she is the original Christine Daae to me <3

  • Wow! - 1st TAKE - Emmy Rossum is such a Pro - no wonder she got the part. I guess it didn't hurt that she is also beautiful and can act.

  • She has such a beautiful voice...I wish I could sing a fourth of how well she does. She's awesome and should be way more famous than she is <3

  • Just out of pure curiosity, though, I wonder if they saved any of the other screen tests. It would be interesting to see what the other possible Christines sounded like.

  • She seems so nervous! But who wouldn't be? It's a screen test for a film. She still did a great job.

  • i like this better than the one in the movie...........

  • No one will ever beat out Sarah Brightman. She is the true Angel of Music. She inspired the music and the look. Without Sarah's angelic soprano, none of this would be here. All Phantom lovers are in great debt to her and Michael Crawford.

  • GOOD

  • She is undeniably gorgeous <3

  • a little pitchy dawg

  • Bringing this back to Emmy, she a kind of old-fashioned tone to her voice in this, very sweet <3 Definetly NOT my favourite Christine and would've struggled to come into the stage production with her voice back then, but she was brilliant for the movie (:

  • why is every one bitching i mean really its perthetic just shut the fuck up and listen to emmy sing if u dont like it fuck off its perthetic all this arguing over 1 girl thinkig she can sing better. she's a 12 year old girl and how old are you guys really? just grow the fuck up ! jesus

  • Comment removed

  • @XxMelodyofHeavenxX i never sed emmy was 12 read properly i sed the girl the rest of the people were baggin on was 12

  • a little pichte but it's still good sing

  • And I'm supposed to believe that the new patrons of an opera house will suddenly drop the leading soprano the old one has been grovelling around for since times immemorial and replace her with THIS?

  • I love how she smiles while singing :)

  • She and her voice... SO BEAUTIFUL <33

  • Dang, those are some doe eyes. ._.

  • I love her voice in the movie, but there were a few parts here, particularly towards the end where the music is higher, where I really didn't care for her voice. But, then again, she hadn't sung in over 5 years. Overall beautiful voice though. She makes me ridiculously jealous!

  • 16 freaking years old here! Incredible! She is gorgeous, talented, and has one of the sweetest and kindest personalities, and that's really all the matters. So how bout you all keep your nasty comments to yourself and try singing like her, then come back here and tell me she doesn't have talent. You look stupid.

  • I've seen The Phantom of the Opera in 05.

And i'm just finding out that was actually her singing!!

    WOW!

  • this audio isnt meant to be capturing her voice, hence the bad quality. she is a amazing singer and a bunch of idiot kids cannot meet her voice. practice and maybe, but for now no one cares.

  • even this silly screen test reduced me to tears. I would spend the rest of my life looking into her eyes and writing music for her to sing (without even a second thought).

  • Gosh, she must have been nervous! It's so cool to watch this and then listen to the actual movie recording. Holy crap!

  • In reality, she would have NEVER been cast in the stage play. Now I understand the fact that movie and stage versions require different talent in order to appeal to different audiences, but at the same time, her voice is very young and still has a lot of developing to do. Christine is supposed to be this otherworldly soprano, and I don't find her high notes effortless and smooth like they should be...I don't know....Emmy's voice just doesn't do anything for me. :/

  • as a singer, i can hear the nerves in her voice during this! so for those of you who are judging her singing, part of it was the nerves. i know how it feels.. but yes she is VERY talented. and this was when she was very young. you should hear her vocals now that she's fully developed and has become even more educated. she is much more musically unique now and even more talented.

  • @natalieMporretta agreed! And the vibrato is a bit shaky

  • who narrowed this screen? was it the uploader? it looks like she suffered from severe strabismus :(

not that there's anything wrong with that...

well, her voice is beautiful anyway.

  • pretty sure the people who gave her the role know better than the haters

  • its hard to find someone with beauty and an angels voice

  • beautiful! my brother did a duet with another girl...he was the phantom!

  • her style of singing is just opening her mouth a little bit... that's what i observe...

  • @XiaoYueLynn I think that's just operatic singing.. because from my observation, they curve their mouths into o's mostly.. so mhm. ;)

  • my sister loves her singing

  • I love her hair and makeup like that.

    She looks so sophisticated.

  • to me, she IS christine daae.

all you haters; keep your hand at the level of your eye.

  • @magicmeerkatx ...we agree.=)

  • @magicmeerkatx Joseph Poces, hold your thumbs. Keep your hand at the level of your eyes!

  • @kaygirl2016 Joseph Buquet, hold your tongue -

He will burn you with the heat of his eyes ...

Or in the film version, "Keep your hand at the level of your eyes!"

  • @AriaInTheSky I purposely said thumbs instead of tongues, because the dislike button is a thumbs down, so they should hold their THUMBS. Get it? 'Cause I don't think you did. Sorry if it sounds mean, but I'm just saying, from what you replied, it sounded like you didn't get the play on words.

  • @kaygirl2016 Ah, NOW I get it. It's sometimes hard to pick up on those things. I apologise for being mistaken.

  • @magicmeerkatx BRAVO. STUPENDO!! MAGNIFICA!!

  • God, if she gets cast in another musical movie the casting director who commits this crime should be taken out and shot. She needs lots of lessons, had no voice then, still had no voice by the time of the movie (you wouldn't think she was amazing in an opera, you'd think she had no voice unless your seat was in the front row). Margaret Preece had to force herself to sing badly and even then Carlotta still sounds miles better.

  • @agnosticnixie

OH SHUT UP! SHE'LL BE 10 TIMES THE SINGER YOU'LL EVER BE,SO IN THE MEANWHILE,KEEP YOUR HANDS AT THE LEVEL OF YOUR EYES

  • @Emimi33able You're a demented fangirl and I've been involved with more opera and concerts than she'll ever be.

  • @agnosticnixie I agree, she is an excellent singer, and while she didn't sound as good as she usually does, it's probably because she wasn't singing in time with the movie version, but it''s really hard to stay on beat singing A Capella. Shut the heck up, or you'll have to keep your hand at the level of your eyes, and if you do that, it still won't be enough, because he'll burn you with the heat of his eyes!

  • Her voice sounds so pretty here and even more amazing in the movie. She was perfect for the role.

  • Her high notes is not that good because there's a straining in her vocal chords, but she gave justice to the song. Such an angelic voice, very light: like a leaf floating in the shallow waters. An angel face with an angelic voice. Perfect for the role of Christine.

  • i just want to know these.. If you want to sing this do u use u falsetto voice or our singing voice

  • @glee4ever28 in most cases when this is sung with a younger set of vocal cords u would use you Falsettoe but when u get older you voice will change soo ur falsetto will change so once older u might use ur singing voice :D

  • Unless you've had to sing this song live, in front of an audience (including that A Capella part at the end), you have no room to judge. This is a difficult song to sing, and since it is so well known, it puts an extreme amount of pressure on a young performer. I think she did a wonderful job. Love you Emmy <3

  • @BrittanysMusic2007 i have sung this song multiple times live, including the a capella part in the end. yes, it is an EXTREMELY difficult song. that being said, the breath support was completely missing here, and she was pitchy in multiple areas. i'm judging. she should not have been cast as christine. meg, maybe, but not christine. her voice just isn't that of a christine.

  • I need to listen to the original cast again to get this out of my ears.

  • @litao2k why ?

  • @leparditas Isn't it obvious? Her singing is probably better than normal people like you and me but nowhere close to professional singers such as Sarah Brightman and Lea Salonga. She has a beautiful face but no talent in singing. That's it.

  • @litao2k you're pathetic! you're saying she can't sing? Oh my bad you're right, she can't and thats EXACTLY why she was preforming in the metropolitan opera when she was 7, beat out thoustands for the role of Christine Daae when she was 16, was nominated for a Golden Globe when she was 18, and reached a point of success that people hardly do, and she did it when she was a teenager. So you're right she cannot sing....She was blessed with the vocal talent, range and vibrato that people dream of.

  • @HeatherKatherineM Again, I was comparing her singing with other established professional singers, not any ordinary Joe. I don't think that she is qualified to sing "Think of me" live on stage. Especially in this video, her voice was pretty weak and the vibrato was horrible.

  • @HeatherKatherineM

YEAHH!YOU GO GIRL! TELL THAT JERK !

  • @HeatherKatherineM

YEAHH!YOU GO GIRL! TELL THAT JERK !

  • @litao2k

OH SHUT THE HECK UP,YOUR PATHETIC!

  • Awwww wittle Emmy!!! She sounds so young in the screen test! She definately improved from then on! She is the PERFECT Christine!!! <3

  • brava

  • Though her voice could use aa littl ebit of work (it's still gorgeous) her looks were perfect for Christine ^_^

  • i dont know if her voice has to do with her voice or if the qualtiy is bad or if she is just scared to death.... but i love emmy rossem

  • OMG!!! she is amazing!

  • wow, only 16, and thing about the tempo that some of the commenters pointed out is that she sets the tempo as the singer, NOT the guy playing the piano, it sounds to me like the piano player is missing the tempo, and slowing her down...but she is fantastic, I couldn't tie my shows at 16, wonderful

  • An example of great singing under pressure.

  • She sounds so much deeper and more mature in the movie. Then again she had aged a couple years since then lol.

  • i admit this movie verison has almost ruined the play for me, such great voice casting.

  • She NAILED it. I can't imagine anyone else playing Christine!

  • ...hmmm...lotta jealousy in the air...she's great. we're still applauding everytime we see it...thank you Emmy. Excellent!

  • She like half-cries @ the end! Awwwwww :)

  • is it just me or does one of her eyes look messed up?

  • SHE DOESN'T MAKE HER FRICKIN VOWLES WITH HER MOUTH! THAT TICKS ME OFF!

  • @bellydancebabe1234 CALM THE HELL DOWN! IT IS A SCREEN TEST!!! SHE IS NERVOUS! WHEN SHE GETS CAST, SHE WILL WORK ON IT!

  • @bellydancebabe1234 you NEED to tighten your lips and sing that way to hit those opera notes and produce that specific vocal sound

  • wow she was so young then! such a great movie!

  • she makes such adorable expressions! :D

  • ...omg...she is so connected-how can anyone not see it...she's a beautiful woman...and Gerard was good...if not great...I thought he was excellent.

  • ...omg...she is so connected-how can anyone not see it...she's a beautiful woman.

  • @guineverelefay

You REALLY think casting Gerard Butler was a mistake? His voice is positively BEAUTIFUL, yet still strong and powerful. Some people say "oh, his voice is too raw. It's not right". Well, if you were the director, that'd be your choice. But you're not, Webber was (well, he was co-director). He specifically said he wanted a phantom with "a raw, more rockish voice", which is Gerry totally. And, he's never even had vocal lessons. How could you criticize that perfection?

  • @neoguyneo123

You say her voice isn't right for someone who's playing an opera singer? Well, if you pay attention to the story line and maybe go the extra mile and read the book, she's clearly supposed to be an amateur singer. She's supposed to sound young and fragile, according to Gaston Leroux, the guy who wrote the book. And webber even said he wanted someone like her to be Christine for the movie. She's much better than that Sarah Brightman, especially for a Christine.

  • 194 people have good taste in music.

  • :-O She's so beautiful. And i'm so jealous. 16. 16 years old. Damn. I wanna look like that when i'm 16 x)

  • wow.she was amazing,16 year WoW

  • Hey guys! I'm actually, at the moment, auditionning for a movie starring Emma rossum and I would like if you guys could help me out by watching my audition and commenting it: any advice constructive advice is welcome XD The video is called: Inside Casting call michael H.

  • @audition1st *emmy

  • @iheartlove7 Damn sorry ^^ i just watched the last harry potter.. so I got it mixed with emma watson probably XD ^^ won't happen again

  • @audition1st ahah dnt be. i was juss sayin:)

  • @blackroserocky That AND she was born in '86 and the movie was made in '04...do the math.

  • She did well for her age, and she can definitely sing. :) But if you compare her to others who have played the part on stage, she doesn't stand a chance.

  • i wish i was that tall..

  • the age is 18. (1986-2004)

  • @defactowood 2004 was when the movie was released; when the movie was being filmed she was 16 going on 17.

  • @witchsaint wow, if she was 16 at that time, it is more amazing to have such a beautiful and pure voice.

  • @defactowood true. I was surprised when I found out she was that young. she doesn't look it.

  • how amazing!!

  • Her vibrato is awesome!

  • She was the perfect Christine.

  • i'm not a very big fan of her voice..but kudos at the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA she gave justice of the character...and as of this screen testing there were some flats and lost notes but shes very charming and handle herself so well..and it is a hard song to sing..so many ups and downs...well important is,she shines and perfected the song at the movie..

  • I love Emmy Rossum

  • OMG! How I wish she would sing and act in the movie as she did in this video... In the movie she didn't move her mouth...

  • ...an incredibly beautiful woman.

  • Damn... I remember when i LOVED this movie (i still do) i used to sing all the songs and hit all the high notes! But thats when i was 5-6.... now im 12:P and i can NEVER sing all this x)

  • @blackroserocky um yes she is...she said that in many interviews

  • @flyyinfinity...thank you :)

  • Comment removed

  • i love TPOTO but I'm 12 and i'm gifted vocally and i can sing this better than her and i don't take vocal lessons.....

  • @bearanease Because you're so young, I'll go easy on you. She was young and auditioning for a WORLD-RENOWNED, VOCAL role. A role that was so much bigger than her it could smother her- she was probably so nervous! Note how she goes fast; she was probably just trying to get through as smoothly as possible. When you're sixteen (and your voice will be different, I promise) and you're auditioning for a major film role(IF you get the chance) and you GET IT, then you can say that you would do better.

  • @bearanease Frankly the fact that you so boldly state "I'm gifted" is simply astounding. Most vocalists aren't looking to claim how great they are, and rather understate their abilities to have a greater effect on the audience. When you audition for something as big as POTO, and in front of the playwright himself, then you can say you sing better. She did incredibly for her first vocal debut. As an artist yourself, you should know that it's incredibly unprofessional to act so cocky.

  • @93bclarke I'm sorry Then can you tell me where's the fine little line between cocky and confident and plus i'm a classical singer she's a pop singer singing classical/opera it just doesn't go in my opinion

  • @bearanease Being confident in your ability to sing doesn't go along with saying "I'm 12 and I'm gifted vocally and can sing this better than her and I don't take vocal lessons." That's being arrogant and bitchy. Companies aren't going to want to hear crap like that, and if they do they'll give you a demo and tell you every little thing that's wrong with your voice to shoot your attitude down. Being confident is just knowing you're able to sing. Don't have to flaunt it. Pop or not she did well

  • @bearanease Actually, Emmy Rossum sang with the Metropolitan Opera as a child.

  • @JessFeser All she did for that audition was sing happy birthday!!!

  • @JessFeser ...Yes... in the children's chorus... one will learn a lot about singing opera there.

  • @bearanease bitch

  • @blazeisasnake i'm 13 is that really necessary over a clash of opinion?!

  • @bearanease I have to say that one: you are acting a bit arrogant. 2: Even for those wo are highly talented, they can be nervous auditioning for such an incredible role. POTO is huge, its natural that she would be nervous, and her voice would have a bit more vabrato then usuale, but she still sounds beautiful. She did an amazing job as Christine.

  • @kaseyx0xkat I agree with you, I am an aspiring actress myself and my acting coach always tells me: nerves are normal, even icons and legends get nervous all their lives...if you don't nervous, it means you are careless about your job, cuz nerves and stress (in a controlled way) help you give out the best

  • @bearanease people came to this video to hear Emmy's screen test for a part in one of the greatest broadway shows-turned-movie of all time and you can see how nervous she was so of course she is gonna mess up a little but she nailed it in the movie where it counts. and honestly people dont want to hear 12 year old bragging, i'm agreeing with flyyinfinity here, unless you land such a famous role you have no right to say you're better then her when she was only a few years older than you are now

  • Poor thing looks so nervous.

  • is this her audition?

  • SoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooCute. Love her.

  • She is perfect! And both Emmy and Gerad deserved Oscars, and Phantom for the best 2005 movie, and I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY CRITICS DIDN'T GIVE THEM THE AWARDS!!!

  • @NenadlPopovic b/c it wasn't that good

  • @crackerpopskikay it was! true fans know it! PHANTOM FOREVER

  • @neoguyneo123 True, nothing to argue about. But my opinion had nothing to do with if I like Emmy or not, because I don't, Besides it wouldn't be relevant. You seem to forget that you're watching a movie, one that's a fantasy sorta movie. It's not supposed to be an exact portrayal of what opera singers are. PROOF of that, the singer who Phantom was written for, inspired by, Sarah Brightman, wasn't near being an opera singer either. Welcome to the movies neoguy. where things are as they ain't

  • She's soooooooo cute!!!!! But her voice is so thin and squeaky, she sounds like Snow White! I wish she would redub her voice on the film soundtrack, at least on Think of Me, perhaps for some kind of 10th anniversary Blu Ray. It's probably my least favorite recording of hers, I don't care for it, but I loved the rest of her songs in Phantom.

  • @neoguyneo123 Who gives a rats behind if you couldn't hear her at the back of a theatre. This is the movies pal, not an opera. It doesn't matter if it's about an opera, it's a MOVIE, where things are as they really aren't. Besides since Emmy inspired Jackie Evancho to sing, that's enough for me. Emmy is golden.

  • @neoguyneo123 LND was nominated for the most laurence olivlier awards in 2011...i mean wow, small mind you have.

  • I love how her voice matured :) Her eyes are incredible :)

  • Did you change the pitch?

  • she seems really uncomfortable and nervous...but she sings really well

  • Beautiful. One thing I noticed, though, is that she definitely needs to work on not constraining her mouth/lips so much. A lot more sound would come forth if she opened her mouth more. Of course, her performance in Phantom was much better-- much more mature and open. :)

  • @guineverelefay she sang with the met opera when she was child. how would she be able to sing with them if she did not have any operatical training? and besides, do you think many of the christines in the show have operatic training? i believe that sarah brightman was the only one.

  • she was nervous and hadn't sang in a long while. so i wouldn't be too critical.i mean, the role was about to go to anne hathaway but she had a scheduling conflict because she was under contract to finish the princess diaries around the same time POTO was going to start production. i'm glad it didn't go to her though, anne can sing but she definitely wouldn't have the chops for this vocal role.

besides, i'm sure after she got the role they had a vocal coach come in to help with the cast.

  • Christine I love you

  • @guineverelefay THANKYOU !!!

  • Very good

  • She's so beautiful! She looks so innocent. The ideal Christine. Great voice! <3

  • Heck yeah! Amazing!!!

  • she just looks tense an nervous cuz she said in an interview she hadn't really sung for 5 years and had to get into gear

  • @thebackgroundartiste

Emmy Rossum was and is the perfect person for the role....so what she was nervous I would like to see you perform at age 16 almost 17 and not be nervous at all.....besides have you seen the movie? She was AMAZING! watch the video and then make a comment.

  • She sounds like a chipmunk. Does she have her jaw wired shut ? There are unknown singers on YouTube who should have auditioned. Just awful !

  • this is EPIC!!!!!!!

  • she is the best actress in the world

  • Wow. She did a good job, but was really nervous...rightfully so, but it really showed.

  • She has the perfect look to play Christine, a very innocent face and a beautiful voice.

  • wow.. seeing ms.Emmy's face singing high notes,i just know now that u can still have ur face still, i mean u can sing high notes without breaking ur face.. but wer is she getting the high voice.. i observed her nick is not stressed too.. except on the very last part.. the highest 'aaaahhhhh' .. eheheh.. ^ ^ GBU olwayz to all of us. ^ ^

  • she is an amazing singer! :)

  • 17 years old.

  • @ronl1973 I think she is 16 because she said she was hired at 16 to play the phantom and then while shooting I thing she may have turned 17 :B

  • Anyone know how old she is in this?

  • so beautiful! i love emmy! love phantom of the opera! favorite musical/musical movie!<3

  • YAY GO EMMY! <3 the phantom of the opera has been my favorite movie for over 3 years I'm so glad she got the part :)

  • @ToBeFree32 no, i have not heard that. i will check it out though!! thanks!

  • @ToBeFree32 yeah it is!! Her range has really expanded.

  • @ToBeFree32 true. i agree that she could have better posture and such. :)

  • @ToBeFree32 u think you could do better?

  • No, she doesn't sing perfectly, but sing better than me at least

    LMAO

  • WHY DOES EMMY SING LOWER THAN CHRISTINE IN THE SHOW?!?! Drives me insane.

  • Bravo Bravo I like this better than the film

  • brillent

  • I Think She Did A Damn Good Job.

  • This is a screen test so of course there r gonna b some flaws but I still thing she did good

  • she's beautiful

  • She sounds pretty awful. Her voice cracks, her vibrato isn't very well formed. Yeah, I know she was like, 16, but I know someone at 18 who sang as the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute in college.
