Hi there, I used a polished insert intended for Aluminium. It cuts well with low spindle power but is fragile, and doesn't last long before the edge will chip due to the high positive rake. I'd consider roughing with the recommended insert then perhaps saving this insert for a finishing cut if required.
What kind of machine are you running? Is that a collet spindle? I'm looking to buy a lathe like this, but need a fairly accurate one. Any suggestions?

What tool holder are you using? What are the dimensions of the workpiece? just to get an idea of the size of everything...

What kind of cutter did you use? I will be looking to cut some 304 and so far it is pretty tough.
