@1001kem Not to mention, all the other people they were considering for the role were big A-listers as well. Any of them would have brought crowds. And Hugh Jackman being in it will certainly bring crowds. It's not like they pulled an Anniversary stunt by casting Nick Jonas in it. Or by casting Taylor Swift (thank goodness they scratched that). She's not in some scene where she's got die hard people following her. She's just an A-list actress, just like everyone else in that movie.

Most of my 'theatre-person' friends agree with me. I know its a bit of a 'snotty' view but since Les Mis is (imho) THE best best musical out there, I just want it to be done right. I'm sure it will be, but I can't help but be reluctant until I've seen it. Sorry if that offends you.

@KTCocopop I totally understand that mentality. Heck, I thought the same thing when I first heard about it. But then I thought more and I realized that Broadway stars just in general wouldn't work in this film. It's usually downplayed a lot but there's a gigantic difference between film-acting and stage-acting. So what they need are film-actors who can sing their hearts out. And that's what the cast is made of. I think they'll be able to bring a strong, subtle approach to it all :).
