Comparando tiempos de inicio y apagado en vaio p, vgn-p11z , con ubuntu 9.10 y Windows 7

raro que windows gane... si todos los windows según los pones son rápidos... dale un par de días de uso 2 programas en el startup y después vemos, también tener en cuenta que windows desde que sale el escritorio no esta completamente cargado, todavia esta procesando y si abres programas según arranca lo notas, ubuntu desde que sale el escritorio esta totalmente cargado.

@caberful ¡¡gracias x tu comentario!! ...mummm... apuesto que optimizandolos a tope siempre mejorara uno sobre otro y viceversa. Con ubuntu, instalando readhead, dash, reconfigurando kexec, reordenando los scripts de inicio por sus dependencias con inseerv.. o bueno haciendolo a manita..eliminando servicios innecesarios, analizando el inicio con bootchart y bootchart-view .. puedes hacer que vuele, vuele.. y entonces este video no serviría de nada..jeje.. ¡¡gracias por comentar!! 1 saludote!!

Interesante. Serían bueno conocer las condiciones de ambas instalaciones porque Ubuntu 9.10 arranca mucho más rápido en una Acer Aspire One (Mitad de precio de una Vaio P). ¿El w7 tiene una suite de seguridad instalado?

Las condiciones son a pelo.. quiero decir, el w7 no viene con ningun antivirus o suite de seguridad (ahora que le he echo el update que envia vaio sip), pero tampoco ninguna mejora (que se pueden hacer) para que arranque mas rapido, y lo mismo para ubuntu.

Creo que ambas instalaciones podrian hacerse mejor, y optimizar el arranque tanto para win como con linx.

jeje... se lo he pedido a los reyes (otro vaio p), junto a un smart q5, un viliv s5 (y el x70, y el s7 tambien..¿por que nop?), y me han dixo q me vaya a pedir a la puerta el metro..

..y nadie me ha "donado" ningun un umpc o mid, o tablet..

..eso es crueldad y lo demas.. tonterias..jejeje!!

yes..it is... but it takes the same time (more or less) that with ubuntu ...I would have wanted to test it with Lucid .. due to it said that it is going to be faster (10 seconds). I do prefer xsplash than Plymouth (maybe due to I think the first one is faster and do not need a so great graphic card-like Plymouth needs) But it is really great to see that win 7 have really improved this (if we compare of course with vista!!, jeje..)

I remember the main pro of Linux was the boot speed. It seems that due to Linux becoming more mainstream it required support for more languages, drivers, etc, that make it boot slower. The only thing left to see is battery life on whether or not it's better for netbooks. Currently running Win7 tweaked version on a Samsung Q1U UMPC. Running well, boots in 35 seconds.

yep! that's true!..but at this very moment, with all ubuntu versions (since lenny) the battery life's been better [a little] that with windows (at least with the umpcs I have try).. guau!!!! I do really love q1u, I have not try it with w7 (but sure that it is a beast!!..jeje!!).. I tried with moblin and the experience was incredible!! ...35 seconds..muuummm that is really a great boot time, I have to tweak my ubuntu, so it will boot faster..jejeje...

It can also OC to about 1050mhz easily, and the RAM too. I don't know if there's an OC program like SetFSB for Ubuntu, but I use SetFSB and it automatically overclocks it every time I boot. Great little machine. In many ways faster than most laptops in real use thanks to the touchscreen allowing faster clicking and navigating. I definitely spent a few hours doing tweaking on Windows 7 making it faster all over. PM me if you need info on anything in specific.

I know SetFSB... in linx you could do it, by hand...jeje.. but there are things like cpufreq, nvclock,lm-sensors (i2c), Prime95,NVClock (overclock Video Cards), ROVclock (ATi cards), conky (monitor stats),System Stability Tester (equivalent to SuperPi), PerlMon (like CPU-z)... and a big etc..jeje.Loved my q1u (missed too..) & with this vaio p, the touch screen is too what I most missed..but the keyboard is incredible..really!!..thank you very much for your comments & thanks for the help offer!!

I dont use AV's. They just slow you down. I do a scan once a month with a free program just in case.

Well, then Ubuntu is faster... this no need antivirus!

Faster at some things and slower at others, certainly. But Ubuntu does not run the programs I need either way. And with Windows you have no need for an anti-virus if you are smart.
