  • fantastic in all respects!

  • why do clavichords sound funny ??? :)

  • because they enjoy themselves, when hearing nice music

  • The Sabathil & Son Clavichord demonstration - Well-Tempered Clavichord

is totally out of tune - so they don't "approve" my comment.

  • Ernst-

Just HOW many different instruments do you own? Your playing (and videos) are truly astounding. Brian

  • this is an old one...

  • truly beautiful sound.

what clavichord is this?who built it?

  • thanks, it ws a clavichord by Sassmann

  • my favorite composer!

  • good taste!

  • vielen Dank, for proposing this beautiful forgotten music

  • Thanks, welcome

  • This music is delightful!!! Wonderful Clavichord playing! Truly Beautiful :)

  • I am glad to hear

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • Thanks

  • Le forze d'hercole is fantastic!! I love it

    5/5 =)

  • Delightful. Makes me feel Bach may have been influenced by Italian composers

  • looks so tiny, and like it's made of cardboard

  • thank you very much for this ecellent playing! Greeting from westphalia/ germany! Thank you for all the other magnificent videos too!

  • Vielen Dank, auch für die Freundshaft!

  • I'm glad some people dare play Italian music on the clavichord, an instrument which today is thought of being hardly used those days.

I would be very curious to hear it performed on an early 16th cty Italian instrument, which would have a total different atmosphere...

I should add one more thing to this performance: why do you always touch the keys so "gently"? I think the instrument could resonate a bit more with greater finger speed in your playing...

    Well done anyway!

    Regards from Belgium!

  • I actually know and can play the second piece. Nice. Very lighthearted and easy.

May I inquire what the title of it means?

    "Fusi pavana piana"

Also I see you took some liberties on the rhythm. Or it's just a different sheet that I own...

    Anyways, very nice performance.

  • Thanks!

Well early Italian is not easy to translate. When it concerns a title, that is even more difficult. It must be something like a plain mixed pavan. I don't know what edition you use.

  • he just doesn't own a metronome :D

  • the words that you ask about sound to me (and i don't really speak italian but can understand some ) like 'folkloric' wordplay--it can be a name of dance or something...

  • Buona interpretazione! Lei ha un bell'suono nell'clavicordo. Congratulazioni.

  • Grazie!

  • Ernst,

You play the clavichord as well as you play the harpsichord and gamba. ;-) I've played these pieces too on the clavichord. They are really perfect for it. I think better than the harpsichord and virginal.

  • You share my opinion

  • Isn't the last piece not the intro to the famous piece by Valente? Great piece indeed.

How I love the sound of the clavichord.

  • tell us about the cost of this instrument...will love to purchase one.... please answer

  • Same here. I'd love to purchase this instrument if I only could.

  • Excellent. Please tell me the name of at least the first piece. How can I identify it and find the sheet music?

  • Ernst Stolz with another wonderful video...this is refreshing......a respite from the modern Din....

  • You have said this perfectly. This is instrument plus the music are very contemplating. They make us look back from the noise and confusion we have today. We don't realize how much noise is around until the lights go out. :-)

The clavichord sounds perfect here for these pieces almost like a lute.

  • love the songs.... gorgeous. old instruments are the love

  • Lovely. Thank you for sharing these with us... Is the clavichord the same thing as the tangent piano? I've asked another user here on Youtube, but figured that I would inquire with you as well.

  • Thanks! The tangent piano is however an other instrument. I have never seen one. There is an article in the english wiki:

The tangent piano has an unusual sound that fuses the qualities of the harpsichord and piano. The treble resembles the bright sound from a light action piano, and the bass resembles the bass from a harpsichord. The sound from instrument to instrument varies, as does one's personal description of the tangent piano's sound.

  • I particularly like your playing of these pieces, to the point that I shall try them myself. This video is the subject of some correspondence between myself and the Editor of the British Clavichord Society Journal, who has encouraged me to publish my views, so I'll try to get them to you. (he prefers your Quirinus). Thanks - beautiful playing on a good instruemnt and carefully recorded,

  • Thank you for your message. It is really charming music I think. Did you listen to my new clavichord recording (Byrd, Nevells ground)?

  • thank you for this wunderfull video!!!

  • Wonderfull!! I love the video!

  • Thanks!

  • its strange that they had a dampener i think

  • Congratulations!!! This video is really great!!!

  • is there a way to let the notes on a clavichord to ring out like a harp? really nice...

  • Unfortunately, there is only a short resonace time. On a bigger clavichord, it's of course a little longer. One can make a pedal effect with leaving the fingers on the keys.

  • very beautiful music.

     : )

  • really pretty, it reminded me of christmastime :P

  • Lovely...
