Yeah, it's an interesting thought, isn't it? Some people do believe in science like a religion when they get emotionally attached to it. But Religion is not logically based, while Science is. Science observes patterns in the physical world and theorizes based on these facts. A "believer" in science doesn't understand the logic behind a scientific argument yet automatically agrees (out of emotion), while an educated person understands the undeniable logic behind it and has to agree.
That's probably because you studied engineering...try psychology, sociology, or philosophy. "Spirit" is a kinda undefined term that some people would classify as crossing into those three areas of study. Whenever I ask someone what spiritual means, they can never explain it...but when I think of the word, I feel it in my heart (so I'm assuming it has to do with the brain, psychology).

Zum anderen,wenn du es bist,der behauptet,dass es etwas gibt, wovon andere nicht wissen,dann ist die Beweislast ja bei dir und nicht beim Gegenüber.
Zumal wir ja dann alle an unsere eigenen überirdischen Fabelwesen glauben können-gut,was der eine oder andere auch tut.

Zeitgeist offers an easy way out of spiritual questions for intellectually driven people (materialists). I'm not surprised to see that Zeitgeist is very popular among academically educated persons, who sometimes hold science as their religion.
If one wants to study religion, here are some questions to meditate on:
Whats the difference between Jesus and The Christ?
Whats the difference between Earthly Life and Life After Death?
What was before Bag Bang?
What is The Meaning of Life?

Nobody has science as a religion.
Science is a method to explore the world and even the whole universe with all his rules and open questions-Theorys get created and rejected. It goes further and further with new evidence.
Religion is nothing like that. Religion gives you doctrines,which you have to accept,if you want,that a specific higher beeing likes you.
Nothing more,nothing less.

My humble opinion (as a holder of three academic engineering degrees) that science is great tool in understanding the physical world, but it doesn't offer interface in studying the world of spirit. Therefore I call it "materialistic science". Ultimately science can't answer the fundamental-existential questions.

Well, to answer your point: Forms of science do answer de facto questions from the ,how you call it , the "world of spirit". The psychoanalysis and phylosophy of the modern age opened many ways to understand the human nature.They back their suggestions with studys and tests.Their work inspires people and helps to heal some. There is no evidence for further holy or higher existencial forms of human life.

I interpret your answer so that you deny the existence of higher force because there's no scientific evidence. Logically then: you *believe* in science. (and loosely put science is your *religion*) Is my interpretation right? If not, please elaborate, what do you believe in?
I saw from your profile that you 24. I think I had *exactly* your opinions when I was 24. =) Then certain things happened that my scientific education couldn't explain. I had to accept that science is half of the truth.

I dont have faith in science. People can do horrible and very noble things with it. There is no supernatural part.
I am 22 and i had no "scientific education",as you say. I could learn and think what i wanted. I got religious education in my school,because i wanted.
And well,those "unexplainable things",which happen are just unexplainable by you-with your knowledge. You know what i mean?

Yeah, it's an interesting thought, isn't it? Some people do believe in science like a religion when they get emotionally attached to it. But Religion is not logically based, while Science is. Science observes patterns in the physical world and theorizes based on these facts. A "believer" in science doesn't understand the logic behind a scientific argument yet automatically agrees (out of emotion), while an educated person understands the undeniable logic behind it and has to agree.

That's probably because you studied engineering...try psychology, sociology, or philosophy. "Spirit" is a kinda undefined term that some people would classify as crossing into those three areas of study. Whenever I ask someone what spiritual means, they can never explain it...but when I think of the word, I feel it in my heart (so I'm assuming it has to do with the brain, psychology).

appeals to nationalism are normal, its only exploited. what we have in the 'zeitgeist' is the opposite - apolitical, 'liberal' and communist nonsense. Its stated here in the form, for example the idea of human nature not having a form, and stating that institutions are irrelevant. both nonsense, scientifically so, being pushed by malcontents and so-called 'liberals' who sound the same as previous generations of marxist or anarchist.
