genesis never stopped being a prog group they just got pop hits and that was taboo.marillion was a good group but too muh of a petter gabrielle genesis imatation for me.Kansas however i agree never continued to be as good as in the 70's.
steve walsh from 74 to 80 was the best vocalist of that era...the only reason he's not considered in that class is cuz people have never heard anything but cows, ditw, n pokr...when i ask someone if they know who he is? they say, ummm yeah man joe walsh... it kills me...can anyone tell me a better singer from that time?
I agree. No one had a voice like him. No one compared with him in the "Kansas" era. When he left the band it was all downhill from there. I have seen them 3 times. Once without Steve Walsh and it was no where near as good.
This is the proof right here: When Steve tries for a prog style of lyrics, even in his younger days, he is right up there with Kerry on terms of poetic genius.
God, just imagine if 1981 never happened for them...
Yeah, basically the 1980s was almost the death of prog - even the 1970s prog bands were abandoning their prog roots in the 1980s (Kansas, Genesis, Yes). Then, Marillion came along in 1983 and restored my faith in great prog music. Listen to any of their albums from 1983-1987!
Agree With ken25zop the two best of Kansas in my opinion and this album was a masterpiece from beginning to end. Thanks for posting had it on my mind when I got home from work. Have the cassette tape somewhere but it's about worn out and sounds like crap.
Agreed. On the whole, I like Livgren's songs better, but this song, Lonely Wind, and The Devil Game are right up there with Icarus, Carry On Wayward Son, and the rest.
to annswer your question, Kerry Livegren wrote that song bud. I have about everyone of the kansas albums, but never been to a show yet, and Robby steinhardt was a good violinst

I don't have a live video of this but I do have a slideshow with the audio from a 1976 show in Pennsylvania. Maybe you've found it by now.

I saw them in 76 in Allentown! Awesome show. No other band has ever been even close to being like Kansas. One of my favorite concerts out of many.
