Vaccines work because they contain a weakened or killed version of the virus, which allows your natural immune processes to attack the weakened virus and create antibodies which remain in the blood for some time, ready to work against the disease again. Some, such as tetanus, need to be renewed about every 10 years, while some, such as chicken pox, can last for a lifetime. The same process occurs when you are infected naturally, but there is a much higher danger.

Just like birth control is only 99% effective even when used perfectly, vaccines are only 99% effective... what makes it awesome is that herd immunity makes up for the last 1%. One thing I find interesting about vaccination of school children is that many proponents say they don't want un-vaccinated children with vaccinated children as it puts them at risk. How does it put them at risk if the vaccinations work? The only way un-vaccinated children would put vaccinated children at risk would be if vaccinations didn't work. I've always found that bizarre.

The reason that unvaccinated children can put vaccinated children at risk is due to the fact that be are talking about viral/bacterial organisms which can evolve. Vaccines prime the immune system to kill the infection. within an un-vaccinated body the virus can reproduce and therefore evolve. Evolution on a miroorganism level can be fast as they have extreamly short generations. Thus the danger is that the organism may evolve a resistance to the vaccine which puts us all at risk.

I got the shot free from my work and I didn't catch the flu later, nor did I have any other side effects besides a little soreness in my arm for a day or two. And I didn't have to worry about spreading it to immuno-incompetent people like the elderly and cancer patients on chemotherapy. Also the trace toxins present in vaccines are pretty much things you encounter in food everyday, from formaldehyde to pesticides, but present in really tiny amounts compared to normal.

The whole point was the next time the virus comes in and infect you your body will say "oh its that virus again, kill it" and they will be prepared this time and will kill the virus much faster.

One thing I find interesting about vaccination of school children is that many proponents say they don't want un-vaccinated children with vaccinated children as it puts them at risk. How does it put them at risk if the vaccinations work? The only way un-vaccinated children would put vaccinated children at risk would be if vaccinations didn't work. I've always found that bizarre.

The reason that unvaccinated children can put vaccinated children at risk is due to the fact that be are talking about viral/bacterial organisms which can evolve. Vaccines prime the immune system to kill the infection. within an un-vaccinated body the virus can reproduce and therefore evolve. Evolution on a miroorganism level can be fast as they have extreamly short generations. Thus the danger is that the organism may evolve a resistance to the vaccine which puts us all at risk.

Not everyone who got the H1N1 flu died either, besides, more people die from the normal flu every year (people just don't talk about that).

I got the shot free from my work and I didn't catch the flu later, nor did I have any other side effects besides a little soreness in my arm for a day or two. And I didn't have to worry about spreading it to immuno-incompetent people like the elderly and cancer patients on chemotherapy. Also the trace toxins present in vaccines are pretty much things you encounter in food everyday, from formaldehyde to pesticides, but present in really tiny amounts compared to normal.

I am 20, I didn't ever have a flu shot until I was 16 and until then I was perfectly fine I never got sick but once in fifth grade ... as soon as I got my "flu shot," I became ill and have had recurring colds since then.
Clearly the vaccine helped or maybe it's coincidence.

EXAMPLE: People with out vaccines are: unharmed(IMMUNE SYSTEM) and healthy but vulnerable.
People with vaccines are: somewhat less healthy armed(IMMUNE SYSTEM) ready for any attack.
So you WILL get sick no matter what but it depends how well your immune system defends. I'm healthy and i'd rather get the shot but its all up to you.

The swine flu is not meant to protect you its meant to boost your immune system. So what they do is put a dead sample of the virus (YES whatever your are infected) and your immune system responses to kill it or remove it and your body will heal and prepare again if it comes back.
The whole point was the next time the virus comes in and infect you your body will say "oh its that virus again, kill it" and they will be prepared this time and will kill the virus much faster.

@Fireflyz50 Your sarcasm fails. The diseases you mention are still prevalent in today's society. The fact is vaccines have never cured anything and never will. They only give the appearance of mitigating outbreaks because they're introduced as a disease is in a typical state of decline, as was the case with polio and smallpox. The CDC admits that a batch of contaminated polio vaccine from the 50/60's could be responsible for instances of cancer today. Ignorance is not bliss.

Hmmm. Normally I'd hate people like this, but I feel that we shouldn't vaccinate everyone for a disease that hardly anyone gets. Besides, if a person does get it, and dies, that's just nature. It helps thin out the weaker genetics so the stronger ones survive.
