I was there, at the Bernabeu in 1980. Afterwards, at the Hotel Barajos I chatted with a Norwegian journalist. He hadn't seen how Fatboy Robertson started the move from the left wing, then cut inside for a one-two to finish it off.
Who remembers the 'Barcelona Shirleys' providing the pathetic entertainment at half-time? What papers reported the brutal way the Spanish police dispersed the singing, celebrating Forest fans when the game was over?
Let it not be said that Forest had an easier time winning those 2 European Cups. In Forest's 1st ever European Cup tie, who did we get? We got the holders, Liverpool, gunning to win their 3rd straight title. Because we stopped them, they had to wait until 2005 before they could actually keep the trophy, which they would have in 1979 as a 3x consecutive winner. We also beat German Champions Cologne enroute. Both times we best Europe's best side, Liverpool and Hamburg.
I don't understand todays' commentators displaying all this certainty in awarding to Guardiola's Barcelona the "title" of Best Team Ever...I won't say that that Clough's Nottingham Forest is, but definitely I'd neither say that it would have very much to envy to present days' Barça...this Roberrtson's goal against Hamburger is definitely a far clever achievement than Messi's goal against Man Utd in last Wembley's final
Brian Clough: "Don't worry about too much about what to do, just give the ball to John Robertson and he'll do the rest" This he said to the first £million footballer, Trevor Francis!
forest goin up, with a derby manager? you what? a derby manager, you what? a derby manager, FOREST GOIN UP WITH A DERBY MANAGER, YOU WHAT? A DERBY MANAGER, YOU WHAT? A DERBY MANAGER.
yeah great achievment by cloughies forest! they got to be the only side ever to have won the european cup more times than they have won their domestic league!
A great great achievement for a small provincial club, who beat the best 2 seasons running, in winning Europe's premier competition. In 1979 they beat Liverpool (1st rd) and again in 1980 (Keegan's Hamburg was rated No 1).
It was in madrid,i remeber all those finals(im 45) and i been to 6 of liverpools 7 european cup finals(missed1977)
I love watching all these clips, well done forest even if yous knocked us out in that 1st round tie back in 1978,not 79(!),it was the 78/79 season but the game was played in 1978.... :-)
Lol i just saw forest lose 3-2 to derby from being 2-0 up at home then you look at what they were.................all because of 1 man.......devid platt.........brian clugh's a football genieus...david platts a fucking idiot...how can sit on the sofas at the start of matches and say he knows what hes doing?
If cloning was as good as they reckon we should clone this team and put'em out there and show some of these flash types how to do it. Course they would be saying, yesterdays news but funny about that..its our news not theirs :)
Clough was a legend and this side had it all. They could out play you or when necessary do the rough stuff. As an Evertonian I was just glad to see the Red Shite not winning everything back then.
1 dislike, JOHN TERRY.

Also check out the malmo final. Think it was John Robertson who provided the cross for Trevor Francis to head into the net. Thanks for the post.

I never liked NOTTINGHAM FOREST but i recognize that was a very tough team in early of the 80´s. They had tthree players that i liked very much:
TREVOR FRANCIS / PETER SHILTON / JOHN ROBERTSON
