  • Orbison wasn't really a rockabilly artist, that is why he was so quick to leave Sun records.

  • Buddy Holly did a great version of this, too.

  • Classic from Sun records company great rockabilly

  • Ol' Roy may not have been the best lookin' orange in the basket, but, boy o boy, he sure was the sweetest.

  • you are truely ignorant and obviously misinformed -- Little Richard is quoted as saying Boone made him more money than Richard earned on Tuitti Fruiti and others -- Elvis ''stole''look for Old Shep by Dick Powell 1939 or others of his early hits . Do think Rock and roll started with Led Zepplin ?

  • west Texas must have had something in the water to produce such great rockers -- Roy.Buddy Holly , even Pat Boone

  • how did Pat boone become a great rocker? great theif, maybe!

  • true Boone resang many hits of others -- he was influential in being the bridge in 1956/7 between rock & pop . Pat in 57 began having originlas with 2 original #1's "Don't forbid Me" & "Why Baby Why" -- both songs Elvis & Parker turned down .Boone ,McGwire sisters, Rusty Draper , all covered R7R in 56-57 , Little Richard said once " Without Pat Boone Stealing Tutti Fruiti , I may never have been hear by millions of whute kids .Boone was the bridge allowing Rock to get airplay

  • and so all the original singers died broke and unknown, while dot records and boone made tons of money..as soon as boones studio saw something that looked hot, they grabbed it...at leadt Bonnie Raitt started a fund to raise money for all the old singers who were broke

  • Well, pat Boone had a great voice (alhtough he was very much pop). Yes, he did allow many of the songs (done by black artists) to get recognition. There were black artists though, especially Chuck Berry, who's material was not only accessible (in other words, whites loved their music just as much as blacks), but recieved airplay. chuck Berry, for example, was straight rockabilly. Many of his songs borrowed from various country styles & occasionally

  • (continued) country guitar licks & chords. He wasn't white, of course, but his music was similar.

  • @idaltuguy Chuck Berry's styles were mixed between Blues,C&W,and jazz guitar most of the time.

  • @hah13 you would have had to been alive back then to see that black artists couldnt get their just do no air play on the AM stations. white artists covered there hits...then came Allen Freed on WAINS NY l0l0 on your AM dial every thing changed. You only heard the real artists singing...the rest is history

  • great rockabilly by roy orbison

  • I Guess Ram Jam got their inspiration for their top 20 hit record "Black Betty" (1977) from this forgotten Orbitune, coupled with lyrics from Leadbelly's Black betty.

  • This is why Springsteen and many others did the PBS Black and White tribute to the Hound Dog Man,

  • my band 'the westerners' will be playing this tune at The Blue Cafe in Long Beach, CA on February 28 2009. We get pretty damn close if I do say so myself. I handle the vocals best I can. come see for yourself. love this tune
