Gilmore Girls Season 4 Episode 78 : Jess says Rory that he loves her

you know, jess is my favourite character and all, and he and rory are the best for each other, but maybe it was best he left and rory didn't take him back., otherwise he'd stay lost in rory, and just only knkow what she had to give him, and maybe it's best he left so he could write a book and grow to like himself and be pleased with himself...just a thought.

Ok, I am now after watching Gilmore Girls... and totally don't understand that....I mean the Jess Rory part. They made them soooo into each other, man could see and feel the chemistry between them. Ok, then they break up, fine. But why did they bring him back to tell her he loved her and then finished it? Didn't let make him stay, didn't make them get back together at the end of the fourth season.... then this completely stupid thing with married Dean...like really...there was no sense in that..

can i just say how upset i am that this scene is never mentioned by rory again? i mean, the next episode, it's almost as if this entire thing didn't even happen and rory just goes back to her old ways without even talking about it to anyone. i mean, i know that rory's mad at jess and all but im just extremely frustrated that we never got to know what she thought about Jess telling her HE LOVES HER. i feel like the writers really screwed up this one.

@LilMissMuffet730 what was she supposed to do, exactly? this is a guy who did nothing but let her down both while they were and werent going out. when they were together he never was honest with her or supported her and then he abandons her, comes back to town, ignores her repeatedly, drops the bomb and leaves five seconds after? the writers had made rory a strong-minded girl who wasnt going to lose it over a guy who did nothing but disappoint her, and who did absolutely nothing to deserve her

@klarebear721 If you look at the scene, and Rory's expressions, it's clear that she's shocked and surprised but she still harbors some feelings for Jess, and she cares that he told her he loves her. My complaint is that we never got to hear or know for sure how she felt about it because this scene was never discussed in the future episodes. Obviously Jess telling her he loves her is a big deal, but the writers never made it seem like it. And i don't think she just forgot about it.

@LilMissMuffet730 ITA! I feel like we never really knew how Rory felt about Jess after season 3 - we never saw her mourn their break up or cry over it or anything. That made most fans believe that she didn't love him at all, so it would seem especially by how she treated him in season 4. I really wanted to know her thoughts on this, if she would've said it back, etc. I mean, a conversation with Lorelai or Lane or something was kind of crucial after this o.0 It's like she didn't even care. @XshamosasX I feel exactly the same way. After she broke up with Jess on the phone, she didn't seem the least bit upset through her grad! I understand that she probably pushed it aside to not let it ruin her day, but it just bothers me that she seemed to be totally okay with it. But I think she did mourn over a bit, cause I remember an episode where emily asked lorelai on how she's taking the breakup, and lorelai said rory was "stoic as ever" or something like that (contd)

@XshamosasX Being stoic means that she could hide her pain and emotions well, which proves that she was upset and hurt but she didn't let it show because if you remember, everyone hated Jess and they'll probably just tell her "i told you so" and she didn't want that because she saw a side of Jess that no one else did and no one'll understand. And i REALLLY wanted a scene where she tells lorelai or lane about this, but we never got it (another fail on the writers part if you ask me.)

@XshamosasX BUT she obviously did tell Lorelai because the next time Jess comes back to town, Lorelai mentions this on the phone with Rory. HOWEVER, the way Lorelai spoke of it made it seem that Jess was being a jerk when he did this. That really confused me, because telling someone you love them, even though you know that the other person probably hates you seems like the most brave and romantic thing ever, and yet both of them seemed to think of it as his fault. I reallllly didn't get that.

@LilMissMuffet730 Yeah, that's the thing though, with her break-up with Jess, she was stoic, but with all her break-ups with Dean and Logan, she cried over them and pined for ages! It seems like Jess was just easier to get over for her o.0 And also, in this episode, Rory says, "You know I have actually thought about this moment, a lot" and all that implying she thought about Jess more than she let on. @XshamosasX shouldn't have walked away, but damn it, the guy told you he freaking loved you! That has to mean something! I figure he left because he was scared about what she would say. And then when he came back, he read all those self-help love books and he was trying so hard :( &I know, the Rory/Dean thing broke my heart. Tbh, I have seen all the episodes SO many times, EXCEPT episodes 4.14 to about 5.1. I've only seen those once, because the entire time I just want to scream at the screen, &

"Why won't you leave me alone, you won't go away!" REALLY?! She talked to him like he was dirt. She was such a bitch there. Even if she was hurt and didn't want to go with him, which she shouldn't have obviously, he wasn't ready, but she could have been nicer about it! She just broke his heart saying NO :'( But

@LilMissMuffet730 after he tells her he loves her, all the next episodes are about her & DEAN? Really? Jess tells you he LOVES you and you just don't do anything & get together with Dean, who's married. I mean, after he asks her to run away with him, she goes and sleeps with Dean. It's almost like she cheated on Jess... well, not exactly, but I just felt betrayed after watching that. TBH, I was more upset by the fact that she chose Dean over Jess than the fact that she slept w/ a married guy :P

@XshamosasX words can't explain how much i hated the Rory and Dean plot in season 4/5. just felt like a completely out of character thing for Rory to do. And i felt like she betrayed Jess too, can you imagine if Jess found out? It'd just completely destroy him, if she didn't already with her "no no no NO!" I just felt like all the writers hated Jess to the bone, why else would they bring him back time after time, fill him (and us) with hope, then destroy everything completely? :(

@LilMissMuffet730 the thing is, the writers didn't hate him, because ASP wanted Rory&Jess to be endgame, so I don't get why they made Rory hate Jess so much & why they had such a short relationship. It doesn't make sense :/ I know they were planning to bring him back at the end of the 7th season, but still we wouldn't really get to see them in a long relationship. I mean, all in all, Rory and Jess were together for about 10 episodes & then 4 guest appearances. Sorry for the multiple comments :P
