  • bonzinho, isso é de um canal de tv ñ é?

  • the tooth pick always looks shorter ya know, i personally like the stardard , but i do have to say there is something appealing about the tooth pick

  • @bianiclegods lolz me

  • thumbs up if u use a mop stick before or until now

  • Nice how to win a bar fight with a poolstick!

  • love the video.. althrough you say it can be done with 1 hand too which looks more impressive. Do you have a video explaining this one? Thanks.

  • For those who want to know, this is on Vol # 3

  • so cool

  • thanks alot- was a great help - peace

  • I guess many of these bo techniques would also be useful with naginata

  • Thank you very much

  • Bo staff technique is derived from circular motion. What are you people talking about?

  • Bo staff state champ 2 yrs,

    33 first place trophies, 26 2nd, 12 3rd

training with the bo for almost 4 yrs now,

black belt with Hwangs Martial arts

training under grand master Jung Oh Hwang (look him up, silver medalist in the olympics, combined 17th degree black belt)

so no, im not "eating cheetos on my moms sofa playing video games"

  • as greengold says, shes a world champ, but im sure you know better...

  • I only wanna learn from her. :P

  • I love you, you rock, you're a Great Teacher !

    Best of Luck, Lauren!

    xoxo Isis

  • We do not usually condone "spinning" in my school because it is too easy to lose control of the bo in a contact situation. If the bo is an extension of the hands and feet...when would you spin your hands and feet in this way. Instead we spend more time on solid strikes, blocks, and quick pokes.

We tend to work out with and perform with relatively heavy bos that are suitable for moderate contact. The bo she's using (and those that are pictured behind her) is what we call a "toothpick bo."

  • in my school, we have both "real bo staffs" and "toothpick bo staffs". we use the "real ones at first, and then always from then on. technically, the toothpick bo staffs are only used in competition- this is useful, because you are so used to using a heavier one that the light one is incredibly easy to use (this really works, i do it all the time)

just a little info- heavier bos are not necessarily real bos- it's just a more traditional choice of staff.

  • Before you read any further and just get offended, I want to say that I agree with you for the most part. BUT this technique is very controlled as opposed to spinning where you actually let go of the bo and let it spin around your hand and so forth. This can still be used to keep the opposition at bay while you set up a real attack. As for the bo she's using, she's just showing a demonstration, she's not actually fending people off, so it's not real important which bo she decides is best for her

  • yup, and once you get good at the standard solid strikes, blocks, and "quick pokes" you move onto the more extreme bo staff type that she is doing here.

i work with both types of bo, this looks cool, although not super effective in combat, and is much, much more difficult and requires limitless hours of practice to get good.

  • oh yaaa im gonna learn that!

  • People don't fight with bo's per say. They use brooms, sticks or any long stick item they can find to defend themselves.

  • what is the purpose of all the spins? does it make more momentum for the strike or maybe to confuse the opponent

  • its for competition, as in judges grade you on your abilities

  • he spins are for blocks

  • This is a cool move and I like it, but that isn't really a bo staff is it? It's more like a 5 foot toothpick!

I know, I know, this isn't martial arts, it's 'XMA'.

Well, I'll try it with my 6 foot heavy wood bo staff (look at the size definition of bo staff on Wikipedia some time) and see how it works.

    Good vid, thanks.

  • A typical straight bo is only 1 inch in diameter, whereas the tapered one shown here is only 1 inch in the center, with most being 3/4" at the ends, and some I've seen have been as small as 1/2" at the ends. But yeah, compared to its length, it is very narrow. Luckily, however, they tend to be made out of woods like rattan, oak, or waxwood, all of which are extremely strong and resilient, making the bo an extremely effective weapon.

  • Well, yes, nowadays demonstration XMA bo staffs are much smaller like the dimensions you are talking about, but a real, traditional bo staff is 6 feet long and 1.25 inches in diameter. For smaller folks, perhaps a smaller bo, but the traditional rokushakubo as in traditional bojutsu is larger.

But hey, whatever makes it a more effective weapon for the particular practitioner, the better.

  • Mine is 6 feet long and 1.25 inches in diameter.. I think it weighs around 2 or 3 pounds and it's oak wood. I can do this double double technique just fine with it.

  • As can I.

I was talking about the use of such a short, skinny stick in place of a real bo staff like you and i use.

I think these "XMA" folks should use real ones like the dimensions we both outline.

  • @eteune XMA staffs were created for speed and top performance not only people in XMA use this staff genius. multiple people use them and especially the really good people you see on youtube so lay off cause your going to get alot of shit if you keep making fun of the staff we use just because its a performance staff and not a baseball bat

  • XMA stands for XTREME.MARTIAL.ARTS

notice the MARTIAL ARTS in the name

it is too martial arts, just more for preformance

just because its not the way they did it when they where still stumped as to how to heat water doesn't mean its bad.

  • Wow, i'm impressed, not with this, but with her forms. I consider myself good at bostaff, aftr winning several state competitions, and even I could learn a move or two from this person

  • Well she is a wolrd champ.

  • Can do. Nice instruction.

  • omg my name is lauren kearney 0_o

  • you hvae good talentt.....im still in training though..=( but i will be a black belt llolz and so far i learned some of the techniques you did and its good because once i get up to that part i could be ahead thanks....=)

  • man its so hard leaning from a video1

  • Join the club....It's tough, because you have to keep pausing and going back....even w a laptop it's tough....

There MUST be an easier way......

IF ANY ONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE, LET US KNOW!!

  • go to actual classes.

you'll never be as good as the rest if you learn from a video the whole time.

find a school and start kickin'!

  • Please... That is not for fight... that is domination of the bo staff... ¿¿do you understand?? with a gun you can beat almost anyone if you know what are you doing but that is not the point. Is an ART. Can you do the same???

  • Wow, I'm amazed at your honesty! Yeah, it's really nice of her to do a tutorial. And I think she's pretty good, I only thought her turns were precarious when she did them full speed... that's all. The rest is obviously very good.

  • Don't confuse XMA / performance martial arts with combat training. Competitors in these types of weapons are entertainers, and they understand more than anybody that this is not "real" combat. So shut up to all those fools who think XMAers try to use this stuff on the street. Knobs.

  • Exactly. When in a real fight they would never use these kind of movements. turning 360 degrees (so turning your back)in a fight is logically a very stupid thing to do.

This doessnt mean that the people that know a staff like this would not be able to use it in a real fight.

  • It's called martial ARTs for a reason laddie.

  • but it could be useful if you're being attacked by 10 enemies to eliminate several of them at a time :> just like in the good old hongkong kung fu movies :D

  • listen people i met this lady and she made me a coustome boe routne. i did a competition and i got first place. I met her at Premire Martial Arts.

  • In her bo resides a demon. She's too fast.

  • Lauren, if you say DOUBLEDOUBLE one more time I am gonna try to attack you, and you will probably lodge a bo staff into my ribcage... Seriously though, you rock Lauren... And yes everyone, she is one cool girl!

  • wow, you're a really good teacher

  • A friend of mine met her last year. He said she was really cool.

  • i don't have the patience for this kinda stuff so iv'e never learned. :(

  • shes cool i want to practice with my bo more in karate now :-) thanks

  • sexy..lol

  • where i can find more her videos ?

  • So, she's the one who keeps stealing my toothpicks!!

  • excellent videom, it helped me a little bit with my techinic

  • I like this wee girl, she seems really decent as a person.

  • Agreed. She seems very nice.Skillful yet humble.Traits of a good martial artist.Hats off ta her.
