In order to play Sonic 1, 2 or 3, you need to buy them. You can't just buy Knuckles and get all 4 games.

So yes, you need S2 and S3 to link up with S&K in order to get the extras.

Just something to add in a annotation or something : Sonic 3, and Sonic and Knuckles are the same game. with Sonic 3 being the first part, and S&K Bing the 2nd part.

the Sonic 3 & Knuckles lockon is the full version of Sonic 3.

I know, but as they were seperated and sold seperately and still are sold seperately on the VC, putting something like that up would give me a headache when people start asking "so do they only have to buy one and they get both?" trust me on this, some people are just plain dumb and I really wish I was lying with the type of comments I've had before, but I'm not.

Hahaha, i have the same accent as demon and this is a good (if not funny) question. Basically i'd personally say that we sorta expect an american to have an american accent, it's not like Britain with the multiple accents in one small country.

I think you left off on some of the important things...

when you lock sonic 3 on sonic and knuckles, the two games double in size, and knuckles gameplay is completely different as their are alternate paths for knuckles and different boss's that are harder...

please tell me...when you press start(plus) in sonic 3 and knuckles...does it just mute and nothing moves, or does a friggen menu pop up? the 360 version of s3&k uses a fucking save state kind of save, and once you beat the game, you can't go back, you gotta start a new game. please tell me this doesn't use that.

If you want the total Sonic Genesis experience, just get it used for a couple dozen bucks (along with GC memory and controllers if you don't already have them), but if you only want one or two of them, VC is probably a better value.

I would totally buy all the Sonic VC titles... if I didn't already own Sonic Mega Collection. :P It works just as well as these VC ports, has all the same features (although the knuckles versions are unlockables), it comes with some of the spin-offs AND Ristar, comes with tons of Sonic illustrations and movies, and it's considerably cheaper ($20 for all 4 sonics, the lock-ons, 3 spin-offs, Flicky, and Ristar < About 6900 Wii Points (70 American Dollars w/ tax) for the same thing).

I didn't like the NGC version of the mega collection as it was missing a ton o fgames that the other versions got, and I didn't like the Emulation as much.

The VC also has the VC save which I find is great for pick up and play gaming.

It's mainly why I buy VC over compilations.

Hmmm... I guess with all the comotion surrounding Sonic the Hedgehog 4 combined with that the Wii shop channel mostly focusing on Wiiware titles and there not being a darn thing worth it on there these days that no one has even taken much notice that Sonic & Knuckles is even on Virtual Console between everything thats going on concerning Sonic 4. Anyways thanks for you at least reviewing this but I guess it must be because the game was only released yesterday but I can't help but feel *2bcont.*

Call Me whatever you like but I actually don't dislike modern Sonic games (be it the modern 2D or yes even the 3D ones that everyone hates on) But thats not to say I hate the classic Sonic games, I enjoy those as well in fact Sonic 3 & Knuckles is one of My favorite Sonic games due to how long it is. Oh and about a disc version. I think that is a great idea, and I think it is entirely possible (as they have been known to do this before), that Sega may compile it all onto one disc once all the ep. are out. Even if the games end up blowing like a russian blizzard, I will buy a compilation disc anyway because I collect these things. But I hope against hope that they end up surprising us, and restoring Sonic to his former glory. A man can dream right?

Depends on what you're after.

I think the VC is easily the best of the 4. Wii Ware is the worst. PSN is probably the best for new games and XBL:A for variety.

Yeah IMO SEGA are embarrasing Ninty on there own machine by making the only good adult and hardcore games out.

Shame they're giving up because of poor sales.

Lol, yeah I hate them so much I buy everything with their name on it, as a form of self punishment :) Unfortunately, you are too right Demon about the current state of affairs at Sega. Mad World and House of The Dead Overkill kicked ass but didn't sell as good as they should have, which is a damn shame. I have my fingers crossed for Sonic 4 (Episode 1?) and hope it doesn't end up sucking. At least we know it won't be another 3D game...well at least not full 3D.

That's the only thing I dislike about SEGA, 3D Sonics.

I've never liked a 3D Sonic and never loved a 3D Mario.

I think both series' are better in 2D.

I hope Sonic 4 is reasonable though, in price/value I mean.

Because splitting a download into 5 parts says to me that it should be a disc game.

And when on the Wii it'll probably be 1,000 points per episode, price wise it should be a disc game too.

But I'm looking forward to it, even though it has the homing attack (2D's don't need it).

You are right 2D doesn't need the homing attack, that is why I suspect it is 2.5D. I think 500 wii points (or $5 on PSN and 400 msp on XBL) per episode is the right price, anything more would be robbery. Also I hope that was just a rough alpha of the game in that trailer and it doesn't turn out looking all waxy and shiny like that in the final. As far as the 3D games, I kinda liked SA on Dreamcast, and Unleashed came close to being a good game, but ruined it with all the stupid "Werehog" levels

the 2D games don't NEED it, but they don't need the insta-shield either, but it does add to the gameplay... have you ever played megamix? its a rom hack of sonic cd, it has the homing attack, and it works REALLY well...

When i played as knuckles in Sonic 2, i would never stop earning contrinues.

I LOVE the Lava Reef Zone... it's my most favourite Zone in any Sonic Game, the music, bosses, artwork with very nice animated terrains for the zone when you beat the boss when everything turns very crystally.... then there is the second boss when Knuckles pushes the boulder at you down the hill, which takes you to the long boss sequence, my favourite section of the game!!

Another great review! It's very nice that this game comes with the Lock On feature! Many good memories.
