I recall TS Gordon as it tore through Brevard & Indian River counties. It did a serious number on the small retirement community of Barefoot Bay (near Micco) producing several tornadoes (one was believed to be a EF-4) and resulted in I believe 1 fatality. My mom kept me and my sisters home from school and took us up there to help with the cleanup efforts. If a simply tropical storm can do that to a community.....imagine what the northeast is in store for with Hurricane Irene. Be safe!
I lived in Ft. Myers when this one hit....i remember the first squall rolled in when I was outside, and it blew a palm frond into my leg, the teeth cut it all up! I watch all your videos, some of the best footage I've ever seen, keep up the good work!
That women said 90mph gusts on the radio I'm sure. There is no way that these winds are sustained at 40 gusting to 60mph. We get those sort of winds all the time in the UK but nothing like this very often. This looks more like sustained 60 wiv gusts approaching 100mph, which would make it as big as any storm wiv had here in the UK, even our so called hurricane of 1987!
I remember this storm, I was in college at UM at the time. I believe it actually hit the area twice because of the way it turned around. It poured rain for days.
Yeah, Gordon had a very large windfield and was moving slowly and erratically around the southern peninsula. Tropical storm conditions lasted for almost two days.
I remember this one, it smashed the snip out of a local trailer city called "Barefoot bay", and not to mention gave the EBS a good workout. Thankfully for us it just meant 1 day off of school and a reason to hang out with my granddad.
I was in Tampa for this Tropical Storm, and that had some rain and wind there as well. As ferocious as this wind is, this only a medium-high tropical storm. This reminds me somewhat of Tropical Storm Floyd on the Jersey Shore in 1999, which brought a few hours of t.s. winds, 50-60 mphs with higher gusts.
One of the only things I truely love about FL and living here, the storms, I love them, it's pretty soothing, just relax and watch the rain and wind, listen to the thunder and such.
But to be honest, I would be freakin out in a multi-story building though lol

It's so strange how tropical storms have no thunder or lightning.

2:00 - 2:05 looks like strong 65-70mph winds to me. I never knew Gordon was so windy - nice stuff!
