I fucking love this song, its ironic the singer turned into what the lyrics talk about in then end. Ps. What the fuck is George W Bush doing sitting with those kids?
When you die and meet st peter, he will ask you if you ever heard of Reagan Youth. When you sday YES, he will send you back to earth to complete your mission.
@imperialsnyc They weren't racist. They hated racism, the usage of hate symbols was to call attention to the fact that racism was very much alive. In fact, the lead singer's parents were holocaust survivors, they definitely weren't a fascist band.
@Plazmattack I get tired of punk fans who use the "it's punk!" card anytime someone calls out a legitimate fault with a song. There are plenty of punk bands that put time and effort into their songs and they end up with a well polished product. This song probably took them 30 minutes to put together.
This is no better than the shit T-Pain shovels out.
@Knarf009 These were kids in the 80's with little recording know-how and very little money. It isn't like today with the decent pretty easy to use recording equipment at our fingertips, they did with what they had and this is what they got. You're obviously not taking the age in which this was produced into consideration, not like it is today. As for the T-Pain comment, FUCK YOU!
@89punk Yeah and little kids can scribble out crayon drawings on paper, but we don't sit it up with Monet, Picasso or Rembrandt. We look at it for what it is, an untrained child trying to make art.
These guys don't know what they're doing at all, they're untrained, but somehow they're allowed to sit up with real talent and we're not to question it? T-Pain can't sing and these guys can't compose and record a song to save their life, why do they get away with it?
@Knarf009 This shit was about the message first and foremost, quality of the music being secondary. No one is saying the shit is high art. T-Pain doesn't have any real message, so the comparison is terrible. Reagan Youth was raw youth angst and the music comes off as such. The music may not be great by musician standards, but that was never the point of punk rock. Punk rock was a venue for the little guy to be heard, and if that meant he had minimal talent, so be it. It's the message that's.
@89punk Their "message" doesn't matter though. That's a gimmick to get away with poor quality "art." They're complaining about the world, but they don't do anything to change it and anytime they DO get off their lazy asses they make vulgar efforts that do more harm to their cause than good.
If anything, T-Pain is better because at least his music isn't false to its' subject matter.
These lyrics are pretentious, lacking a resolution, and dry. If this is their emphasis then they suck.
@Knarf009 why should making music, especially with genuine feeling and energy be limited to people who dedicate their lives to mastering an instrument and playing every note to some "perfect" standard? THis is the beauty of such music... rising above all self defeatist thinking depression and doubt, saying fuck it i want to do this and i will...music for the losers of society who are proud of that label.. oh fuck it why bother you're probably someone who only listens to FLAC
@GodListensToSlayerr Being a loser is absolutely nothing to be proud of. That is the very thing I'd point to if I wanted to illustrate gross complacency. We, as people, should seek to better ourselves. We should praise those that make an effort to be more than what is expected of them. We should NEVER settle for people who don't even make an effort, let alone PRAISE them! We shouldn't settle for music that innovates on nothing and makes no effort to be quality music.
@Knarf009 well maybe your life was a care free blissfull existance, i grew up in what was voted as the shittest town in england, spent most of my school time as a loner, got shit at school for things beyond my control like appearance, spent my time at home witnessing abuse and being raised wrong and hateful.. throughout most of my life i was bitter and felt like life was pointless but this music helps me remember we all have choices to become better people and do what we want regardless of...
@GodListensToSlayerr .. what happened in the past, as in the end if you have the energy and enthusiasm you can be whatever you want. these songs remind me of the times i was called a loser and all the hateful comments that brought me down actually fuel me to become whatever the fuck i want at any given time... yeah i may be a loser but now im damn proud because if i didnt have that label i would never realise how important it is to make the most of life even when the odds are stacked against you
@GodListensToSlayerr i know this is tl;dr and boring but one last thing: how far is too far when it comes to innovation? most of the best music is simple but made with raw energy. Music is subjective, if your opinion that this is too simple, poor and badly made, to be "good" then fine. But then what is "good" music to you? Complex fret wankery? a lot of music has no feeling behind it.. music for the sake of music.. i believe this band played because they BELIEVED in what they had to say.
@GodListensToSlayerr Well that was a nice little irrelevant tangent. Back to the point, you don't know what the fuck innovation is. Innovation is the creation of something new or presenting something old in a new way. Reagan Youth sounds like every other fucking hardcore band at this time. They weren't the innovators, they were the copy cats in a sea of people all trying to sound like the "scene." That's all fine and dandy and reiteration is fine, but people need to keep it in perspective.
@Knarf009 ahaha you are so deluded its unbelievable. innovation isnt always neccessary or good. if it aint broke dont fix it. none of their songs sound the same anyway. you just want to argue and cause some commotion , so whatever, cool, in your opinion this band is shit and useless, luckily the majority of sane people think otherwise and appreciate the bands mindless boring generic noise
@GodListensToSlayerr You continue to prove to me that you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. The term "innovation" connotes something positive. So your idea that innovations aren't always good is flawed by the very connotation of the word. Furthermore, if artists didn't innovate then we'd have one genre of music, punk wouldn't even exist.
You keep proving that you're uneducated and it's now abundantly clear that you like this simply because you don't know any better. It's sad.
@Knarf009 pahahahhaa i love your attempt at being pretentiously clever and going off on different tangents in our little conversation ... bottom line is music is a bunch of noises at different pitches and rythms and its totally subjective. shame if you cant understand that, and again, if you dont enjoy this, okay, your loss:)
@virtue696 I like how you're implying criticism of the A-Bomb and then refer to the Japanese people by a racial slur. When you look at the A-Bomb it panned out to be a good thing. What the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki prevented was the partitioning of Japan, like in Vietnam and Korea. Had the bombs not been dropped then half of Japan could be living in the same conditions North Koreans are enduring. It's an ugly situation where ugly things were done, but Japan wasn't innocent under Tojo.
@Knarf009 No opinion on the A-Bomb discussion but I will put my two cents in about the racial slur thing. I think words have no meaning to them unless deciphered by the reader. Just like heeb was a slur against jews before they accepted it and took it as their own effectively eliminating most hateful connotations with it. Also, I use the argument that it could only be an offensive slur if it was used in a hateful manner. Plus, the term Japs has become widely socially acceptable.
@TheOfficialSyndrome You're obviously a sheltered white kid who doesn't know shit about racism. Jap is NOT socially acceptable, say it to a Japanese person and see how they react. Heeb was replaced by Kike and the Jewish community has NEVER accepted the term.

I've got the original vinyl and another on red vinyl not played (not same cover art) (OH SHIT!!!, well, that and more was what a black friend of mine from D.C.said when he happened to see the cover when he came ever one night, try talking your way out of that one, lol, but we know the truth, right?)

Reagan Youth were anarchists and anti-fascists. The name of the band and the KKK artwork was ironic

@8ninjaguy8 "Reagan Youth is an aggressively anarchist, socialist, and anti-racist band, and often utilized Ku Klux Klan and Nazi Party imagery for satirical effect"

@8ninjaguy8 to answer you, yes, the kkk thing is a joke used as comparison to reagan's goverment. Apparently some people just have to be arseholes and just fuck with people when somebody asks a question.

the one concert I could Kick My Ass for not seeing (mid-80's atlanta), w/ Dave.
I've got the original vinyl and another on red vinyl not played (not same cover art) (OH SHIT!!!, well, that and more was what a black friend of mine from D.C.said when he happened to see the cover when he came ever one night, try talking your way out of that one, lol, but we know the truth, right?)
