  • andrew jackson jihad but i fucking love it

  • Stuart Staples: He may have a good voice if he would ever sing louder than a mumble. I know it's his style but give me something, please.

  • Lots of those mentioned vocal performances, while sometimes irritating etc, still achieve what they set out to do. I thought of a good one though; crappy vocals but still redeeming: early John Frusciante solo work.

  • Mob 47 has a very crappy vocalist. But thats one of the parts of their charm.

  • A lot of metal vocalists like Lemmy & Dave Mustain are pretty nasty vocal wise. But they are great musicians! and there vocals work for the bands there in. Boredoms is a great punk/rock band! but the singer is/:, oh & i think the biggest for me. Billy Corgan! i think he is a great songwriter & i love the first few Pumpkins albums. But i can only take his whiny, screechy vocals so many times in an album listen lol

  • Kesha,

And all those goregrind gagging pig vocals.

  • New Order is the fucking best. FUCK YOU.

  • The thing is the type of music a person likes really effects what is "a bad singer". Like the black metal band Burzum. Most people will automatically say bad vocal without knowing anything about the music .Hell most people will say all black metal vocals are bad. Just because its too different from the kind of vocals they like. Myself Bob dylan is my pick for worst vocal...I know I'm gonna have a lot of hate for saying it. I get it that its all about the "Story /lyrics"but vocally its bad.....

  • Paul Baloff, even though his rough vocals are really awesome

  • ODB...best worst vocalist ever :-)

  • t payne

  • i love Rancid, but their singer does suck

  • brokencyde or we break hearts not hymen

  • ..Justin.. Bieber?

    No? Wrong place?

  • Chad Kroeger... Jesus.

    Yarling, worst singing, ever.

  • Joey Ramone's voice would constantly crack in the middle of his singing and there would also be hiccups, but for some reason I love his voice and I feel like his mistakes actually added to a song's greatness.

  • Bob Dylan's voice is not the pleasent thing I've ever heard, but I still love him because of the lyrics and the songwriting. Same goes for Lou Reed.

  • I actually like Bernard's vocals in New Order. But Franz Ferdinand has had some terrible live performances. I'm not sure if the singer was sick or what, but I've seen shows where he just couldn't get in key and would just stop singing mid-way through a verse because he knew he was killing everyone's ears.

  • t pain

  • dave mustaine, even though I love megadeth

  • Oli Sykes!

  • Any of your so-called singers in pop, rock, funk, metal, punk, jazz... sucks donkey balls compared to classically-trained vocalists. Snobbish? Yes, I am.

  • EVERYTHING IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!

  • What is that song in the beginning?!

  • Lil wayne

  • Calvin Johnson from Beat Happening has a pretty bad voice in most cases.. Strangely enough my voice sounds like his quite a bit :p

  • Chris Barnes

  • Axl Rose. Can't stand that guy, whiny, uninspired and just simply horrible.

  • Trent Reznor.

  • autotune

  • Worst vocalist I've ever heard = James Hetfield

Worst vocalist I've ever heard but highly enjoyed = The guy from the Crucifucks

  • @TheSimeon88 Fu

  • Any vocals involving that retarded 'octave' thing Avenged Sevenfold do to try and sound all ominous-like. I hate everything else about Ax7 too. Not a huge fan of Peter Steele's over the top stuff with Type O, though I couldn't imagine them without him either.

  • Bob Dylan

  • This guy from a band called Calculator on the These Roots Grow Deep. Terrible vocals.

  • attila !

  • Forgot Titus Andronicus, and the poor guy from Brainiac (RIP) truly awful singer, yet totally enjoyable..."Flash RAM"

  • Worst vocalist from a band/genre I hate:the guy from Cinderella..."Don't know whatcha got 'til it's gone"

    Greatest post-punk bad singers ever:

David Yow (anything by Jesus Lizard/Scratch Acid)

Curt Kirkwood on Meat Puppets I (walkin' boss/tumblin' tumbleweeds)

Yasuko Onuki from Melt Banana (Surfin' USA)

Steve Ratter of Slug (Aurora X)

Chuck Mosely with Faith no More (anything from "We Care a Lot")

No one listed can carry a tune, all are on great bands; somehow they complete these bands ( -Chuck)

  • Lou Reed...

  • @NorwegianFury you ought to just fucking die

  • @grunntalll

Calm down! My opinion is not absolute or factual. It is simply the way i feel about Lou Reed`s vocal style. If you enjoy it I respect that.

  • cool t shirt

  • That guy from Queen. Obviously if I was serious I'd be the most stupid person on Earth.

  • Ogre Nivek hands down. Horrible vocals but amazing music hell his vocals fit it so well.

  • Maniac from Mayhem. Terrible fucking vocals

  • The Guy or guys from Alesana

  • And T Fucking Pain..

  • The singer for Foster The People, god damn... x(

  • Henry Rollins .......

    bleh

  • The guy from Silencer is the worst vocalist I've ever heard.

  • the guy from metallica

  • Freddie Mercury

  • Bon Iver, Dan Fogleberg. Yeah, i went there.

  • I don't like saying this... but I guess GG Allin had the worst vocals. I love him to death... and I hate admitting that... but, yeah....

  • some Peter Steele life performances with ToN are concidered pretty crappy, but i still love his vocals even on these performances... it's just sooo...Peter Steelish!!! ;)

  • Lou Reed

  • I'm a huge fan of Black Flag ....... but i always thought Henry Rollins singing ... sounded like complete fucking garbage..

  • Avey Tare live sucks sooooo bad... sometimes. Other times he's got it, but sometimes it is so off key it kills the whole show.

  • Forest Fires.

  • Mouldy peaches, goes for both singers, really. But I love them!!!! :)

  • Sorry, Wayne Coyne, XD but I think it fits with the music though.

  • Great shirt! EIT!!

  • i can't stand anthony kiedis

  • Tom Delonge, Ian Curtis, and Scott Stapp (I'll never forgive him for making that style popular)

Any and all who are talking about Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse or Dan Smith from Listener are crazy! That's called innovation.

  • Also, I'd say that Daniel Johnston could justifiably be labeled a bad singer, but his lyrics are so unwaveringly true to his personality that it's ultimately very forgivable.

  • Donna Jean Godchaux. She ruined seven years of Grateful Dead recordings; in otherwise peaceful and moving songs, she would break into these incongruous, shrill, random, caterwauling background vocals that completely ruined the trademark GD mood that any serious fan was looking for. That being said; I still listen to and enjoy songs from '72 to '79, but when she bursts in I can't help but plug my ears.

  • @pseudodeduction Couldn't agree with you more, good to see there are some Deadheads who watch TND

  • Dynamite Steps - The Twilight Singers

Can't really listen to the album 'cause the vocals are so urgh!

Don't know why I bought it in the first place.

  • You wanna hear a shitty vocalist? Try the female vocalist in Xe-NONE.

The entire band is pretty terrible, but that female singer... she's in a whole new league of shittiness. Worst singer I've ever heard.

  • justin beiber

  • I really dislike Nirvana's vocals and Avenged Sevenfold's vocals. They make me unable to listen to them.

  • Anything William Shatner has tried to cover. Dagon from Inquisition sounds like a dying frog when he sings, but the music is awesome

  • I first FUCKING HATED with a passion Mr. Dave Mustaine but now i think he's great. Just got to give people a chance to grow on'ye :)

  • fucking Dream Theater!!

  • The vocals on The Human Abstract's Nocturne, I LOVE the vocals even though at first i found them unbearable.

  • the vocalist of factory 81

  • wyclef jean, but he sounds good anyway

  • I love low life!

  • Julian cassablancas from the strokes is pretty bad, i love the strokes, but im pretty sure i can sing better than julian

  • @WINFIELD32750 Are you sure? i always though he was a great vocalist and i would think it to be hard to get the grittyness aided by nice melody that he manages. jus sayin.

  • @WINFIELD32750 i hate the way it sounds on there first album like all the freaking time they had it fuzzed up to make it sound more modern or some shit but all it did was give me a headache!

  • @WINFIELD32750 You've got to be kidding.... His voice is not bad at all, did you listen to his solo project? He has a good voice.

  • periphery's self titled = worst vocals ever

  • @underscoreisnotvalid i agree man :\

  • I was scared when I saw the title matched with New Order. New Order has that awkward, almost amateur charm, and they know it so bad. It's like the coming together of "I don't give a fuck" punk with electronic music and a little finesse and heart. It almost becomes cute instead of cool how bad the vocals are, but they still make it work.

  • @TheNewDigital

Oh, and type in New Order live, 1984, 'Temptation', I think it sums up the idea perfectly...

  • justin beeber

  • the guy from television

  • Johnny Rotten's vocals on the Sex Pistols' only album are pretty bad but I enjoyed the music for a majority of the songs. Also really not liking Belle and Sebastian's vocals on If You're Feeling Sinister LP at all, kinda taking away from the album for me.

  • henry rollins of black flag.Black flag was an awesome band even though his vocals suck

  • waking the cadaver

  • do a review of childish gambinos culdusac! I would like to have your thoughts! I thought it was incredible

  • ringo star !!!

  • simple plan.. that shit is just horrible...

  • Jack white, sonic youth

  • screaming shit sucks

  • Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains when sings lead. He was much better at harmonizing with Layne Staley.

  • Derek Shulman from Gentle Giant

  • Darby Crash

  • Bob Dylan, terrible vocalist but amazing songs, love him.

  • I hate to bring up rap but Drake is one of the worst singers ever. He sounds like a homosexual frog.

  • Maniac, ex-Mayhem.

Just listen to Freezing Moon live at Wacken. Fucking terrible.

  • Dinosaur Jr. The vocals are terrible, but I love them so much :)

  • *Mangum

  • Jeff Magnum isn't the best singer but I love the way he sings and ITAOTS anyway.

  • james hetfield live

  • Listen to Blasted Pancreas. The vocals don't even sound like vocals, it's beyond imagination. However, I think that the band (and the vocals) are decent.

  • Rob Halford. Terrible.

  • dev. she just talks over a track and thats a song done

  • Oh yeah, and 50 Cent live on stage is probably the worst EVER. Have you ever heard it? It's like the guy has just finished a marathon and he's dropping verses at the risk of exploding his lungs.

  • Michael Stipe from R.E.M. Sometimes his voice just gets on my nerves. I feel guilty for it though. The man got emotions to bring to the table.

  • Lil wayne has an aweful voice. Its so bad that even hu rap sounds terrible.

  • continuance - carry ourselves.

    great album, bad vocalist

  • anthony kiedis

  • @adamgergich96 u nuts?

  • Don't shoot me but Ian Curtis, i love Joy Division but Ian Curtis tries to hard.

  • Aaron Weiss - mewithoutYou, can't sing in the traditional sense but the sounds that come out of his mouth are incredibly endearing.

  • I know some people who really dislike Joy Division because of Ian's voice..... how????? haha

  • river cuomo

  • Mindfuck: Hipster voalists (Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Bring Me The Haircurler, Escape The Fags) all SUCK.

  • @Altaeris I wouldn't consider those "hipster" vocalists lol

  • sunny moore in from first to last. listen to mothersound.

  • Fred Durst!

  • Tom Araya of Slayer

  • u wanna hear some rly bad vocals, so bad u will lose faith in humanity...rdy to kill ur eardrum?? search; speak "stop the war", brokenside "freaxxx", david tanny...

ok i dont listen to them but theyre so bad..theyre almost worth the watch.

  • Since your question is about bad vocalists that I actually listen to, I'd have to say Bob Dylan.

  • varg on the first burzum album.

  • 25 ta life. game over.

  • Made of Hate's vocalist, the songs are awesome, but the vocals...I'm talking about the Pathogen album

  • Ozzy Osbourne.

Black Sabbath are an amazing band, one of my favourites - especially early albums but I just feel Ozzy is, at least technically, just a terrible vocalist.

  • Search "O Holy Crap"

Its of this guy singing O Holy Night in ways i never thought possible from human vocal chords.

  • Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

horrible vocals but still a really good sound in general

  • Lil Waynes voice is worse than Gaahl, maybe thats just cause i realliy like Gaahls vocals anyway

  • NICE SHIRT

  • exodus bonded by blood

  • @mentalfeed70 What!? Paul Baloff's vocals on there are some of the most fun and thrasy vocals to ever be recorded!!! in my opinion :)

  • @MusicSportsPolitics i like the music but i can see why they fired him rip though

  • @mentalfeed70 never

  • @killromes i just never liked his vocals

  • Matthew Bellamy's singing can get so fucking annoying! x0

  • alice glass haha

  • waka flocka

  • Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock has a horrible voice, but the words that come out of his mouth are genius. Plus the rest of the band is so talented and generally awesome that it totally makes up for his voice for me.

This is a band I have loved since early high school, and to this day still love

  • @skimaniac05 Yeah i love modest mouse and isaac brock is a genius but his vocals are bad

  • Sean Killian

  • Well... As soon as you said I am an individual and I am an intellectual, I didn't want to listen to you anymore. Someone with intellect would know tattoos and thick rimmed glasses don't make you an individual. Truth be told there is no such thing as being a complete individual.

  • coldplay live. they're amazing but the vocals live suck dick. props to the band tho.

  • Design the Skyline.Absolutely suck ass.And I dont not enjoy whatsoever.

As for vocals that are bad but I still enjoy...Mastodon's Brent Hinds and Dave Mustaine...live.They have their moments live when they really sound bad,but I still am in love with the music no matter what.

As for what makes a vocalist good.... Intonation, feeling, passion, and being in tune.

  • stza from loc and star fucking hipsters has terrible vox

lots of passion but cant sing for shit

however his shreiks are unique and kinda beautiful

  • DAMO SUZUKI

  • End Of A Year. aka Self Defense.

Love the band as a whole though, the singer is self aware his vocals are atrocious. Still as a lyricist he is really striking.

  • new after the bural vocalist

  • James Hetfield post 2000, #1 in all questions asked.

  • Nattramn , from silencer. Seriously check out his stuff : Silencer - Sterile Nails & Thunderbowels, i dare you people. However the atmosphere on that song/album (death pierce me) is so amazing, that you almost dont mind it

  • @Whiplash557 Nattramn is one of the greatest vocalists ever, in my opinion. He is unconcerned with our opinions, though. Only the demons compounding in his head.

Let me steer you towards Abruptum. You might like them.

  • @EknanTheDeath Nattramn always seems to produce extreme reactions - either people idolising him or despising him.

I can't say I know any vocalists who can do quite what he did on the silencer album (to my knowledge there was only one before he was locked away in the looney bin and wrote Transfomalin) I certainly wouldn't say he was bad - passionate, disturbing, scary - yes, but considering the genre he worked in those things are good.

Though Transformalin is more disturbing imo

  • @MagnusBruce I am also a huge fan of dark ambient and love his later work. They evoke different emotions, though.

Silencer is great for those nights when you're just depressed and need something to relax to. It's almost soothing. Diagnose Lebensgefahr is creepy, but doesn't conjure up a lot of emotion for me. It's more of something I'd put on a playlist with Circumliver and Artunit.

  • @EknanTheDeath Aye, Silencer is good when you're feeling really down. I'm not sure why, but depressive music seems to help. I'm not sure if it's because it makes you a stronger person, or maybe it subconsciously reassures you that you're not the only one feeling this bad. Perhaps both are true.

I find Diagnose Lebenshefahr has more effect on me when I remind myself of who Natrammn is and what he would have been thinking while recording it. It sometimes helps to read about him while listening.

  • @EknanTheDeath Heh horrendous, allthough filled with the right emotiohorrendous, allthough filled with the right emotion, it was horrendous

Ah yeah, i've heard them, love them ! But thanks for the tip anyways

  • Probably Los Campesinos. The male vocalist sounds. AWFUL. His voice is scratchy, painful and unpleasant. But the Female vocals are wonderful and the instrumentation can overshadow the awful Male vocals. After a few listens the male vocals become bearable, but no better.

  • Steve Ignorrant of Crass worst vocalist that i like

  • OLLIE SYKES FOR WORST VOCALS EVER

  • Hello Kitty Suicide Club, Everything is awful but I fucking love it
