God this takes me back ! 1971, desperatley trying to grow my hair long. I got hold of this record and all the other progressive stuff as well, In my own time by Family, lifes along song by Jethro Tull,Strange Kinda Woman by Deep Purple, yes I was the Guy who was asked to go to parties but NOT to bring any records !
We lived in a three up flat in Glasgow and nearly every Saturday night everyone spilled out the pub to our flat..when this was played everyone was up jigging...and the floor was bouncing up and down...aye those were the days...the 70s...long live jig a jig....
Wouldn't mind a tenner for every time my mates and I knackered ourselves dancing to this in the old school discos back then. I'd be rich beyond imagination (not to mention totally f**ked ;-)) )
This is one I dug out of my Mum's 7" singles back in the mid-90s. It is the theme tune to my as yet unwritten and unproduced '70s cop series, 'Maguire', about a cop from Dublin who ends up in New York. Probably partnered up with a grouchy black guy. Or maybe a black woman. Like Pam Grier, or somebody.
I've discovered this song on SIRIUS 16 The VAULT (now Deep Tracks after the SIRIUS/XM merger) and I have this song on a box set compilation album titled "Legend of a Mind: The Underground Anthology"
I think that is a video from a show called "When animals attack". The guy rubbed deer musk on himself to get closer to the buck...worked really well!!!
This song (Jig a Jig or was it East of Eden? Isn't that th beand?) got me & Gianna going mental along with those on a Friday night at Paisley tech, early 70's: Danny's Disco. Thanks, Danny. Maggi
more than 25 years I didnt heard to this album Jig and Jig (I had it) - this was one of my favorit bands in the 70ies
Austria had a lot of hippies, smokers and longhaird freaks in the 60ies and 70ies....sex drugs and rock`n roll in the Alps was common and India and Afghanistan was not for by overland busses . unfortunatelly they didnt played in Austria...
Beeeeautie... Thanks a lot for posting. This band wasn't very popular in Poland, but I remember one amazing album we used to listen to when we were really drunk. Maybe that's why I don't remember how it was called...
God I remember this from when I was young and handsom ( ain't young anymore...... ) after a few pints of Brains SA beer, us Welsh boys used to get up and do a jig.......I just tryed to do one but I ran out of " Nitro " spray half way through !
I LOVED THIS SINGLE BUT COULDN'T GET ON WITH ANYTHING ELSE BY THE BAND...THOUGH i TRIED,i USED TO HAVE 6 OF THEIR ALBUMS INCLUDING A TRIPLE BOX SET.THE BOX SET SURE PUT THE WORD "TRIPE" INTO TRIPLE!
This reached a high of No 7 in the UK singles chart (spring 1971). It mostly comprises a set of traditional Irish dance tunes - reels, to be exact. After the opening drum rolls we hear 'Jenny's Chickens', 'Drowsy Maggie'and 'The Ash Plant'. A jazz improvisation is next followed by a reprise of 'The Ash Plant' to the end fade. I wonder how purists of Irish tradtional music would have thought of it but it's a brilliant track. Well done on the video!
So did I. Saw them play at the London Roundhouse that year. One of the best gigs I ever went to.I can still remember Dave Arbus bitching about " fucking roadies getting in on the action."
Great to hear this band again, at the time I was also heavily into Pink Floyd and Curved Air. Happy druggy times before I got sensible and started earning a living.
bet that guy wished he'd taken a big stick to that argument...

Ranks alongside Dave Swarbrick and the violinist of the now defunct Oily Rag Band from Norwich. Wish I knew her name - played like an angel.

This is the first time I've heard them. Of course, the violin player, Dave Arbus, played the violin solo on Baba O'Reily.
