Nice! But...at what cost? Is it worth TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY to fly it? Vulcan Operating Co told Lottery that airshow fees would pay all costs for sustained operations. Now, we're finding out that's not true. Sorry, guys, but TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY was never gonna come from airshow fees. A blind man couldda seen that before you started. I seem to recall the RAF retired it because, aside from being old, it was also EXPENSIVE TO OPERATE. VulcantotheHANGAR!
"So you say it never flew operationaly with Olympus engines?"
No, fortunately I didn't. From memory I remember that the Vulcan started with Avons. I remember a Canberra screeching over at 8 k. or so testing an Olympus, but that was in '53.
I was in with Lancs, converting to Shacks, but I even remember the Bombay, first hand..
Sorry, but Vulcan was powered by four Avon engines. In the 60s, in preparation for Concord(e), it flew as a test-bed for a single Olympus, which was slung under the belly, and as such it used to thunder down the Bristol Channel at 500 ft and away over the Quantocks.
The Olympus was first run in 1950 reaching 10,000 lbf (44 kN) thrust and was flying in an English Electric Canberra testbed by 1953. Entering full production in 1955, the Olympus continued to be developed by Bristol Siddeley. The Olympus 201 entered service on the Avro Vulcan in 1956
Okay okay. Friends of mine were the folks who were originally designing the Concord(e), and it was called Concord until Benn went to France and came back spelling it with an 'e'. I'm not arguing. I was there. The whole episode of long pre-Vulcan forward is just recent history for me.
What's the beef? I stopped taking orders when I finished with the military fifty-five years ago. Are you of the kind that has to make a conflictive argument out of everything? - Don't expect further replies, because we've met that kind before..
No, i'm just stating the fact that is officially spelt Concorde and no other way.
You're just one of these idiots who complicates things and thinks it's clever to blame others in this cake labelling me as someone who makes arguments out of everything.
Concorde (as the name of the aircraft) is spelt with an e, but possessive its has no apostrophe. I agree that people who make mistakes should be corrected and should be grateful for the correction.
i heard this was gonna be at the RIAT at the weekend and was supposed to be flying in today (wednesday) but it was raining etc. so i doubt it would of flown but i live 2 miles away from the RIAT so i will get to see when it lands, at the airshow cause im goin lol and when it departures :D cant wait! oh and the F-22 Raptor and the A-380 Airbus also is gonna be there!! cant wait!!!
I was standing with Lanc and Vulcan crews of 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron. Some of whom were involved the Black Buck op to Port Stanley. The stmosphere there was electric, but they all commented on the general feel all over the airshow. But the crowning moment.. the Lancaster flying with the Vulcan!

So you say it never flew operationaly with Olympus engines?
From several aviation web sites:
Engines 4 × Bristol Siddeley
Olympus 101, 102 or 104 4 × Bristol Siddeley
Olympus 201, 202, 203 4 × Bristol Siddeley
Olympus 201, 202, 203 or 301 4 × Bristol Siddeley Olympus 201, 202, 203

The Vulcan was initially Avon, but the most part of it's life they had Olympus.
Concorde is always spelt with an 'e'.
I'm not saying what I think, I'm telling you that Olympus engines were used.

Britain wanted Concord, France wanted Concorde. It was agreed that it should be Concorde - therefore it is Concorde.
Concord no longer applies. Just accept it.

It's your fault for not accepting the fact.
'We've met that kind before' - pathetic.
