  • my paint gets so gummy and ugly when i paint my white scars. What can i do to get it better and more smooth ?

  • what do you use on the very first step when you coat it with that black stuff

  • How you got that smooth undercoat?

  • to what ratio do you dilute each of these paints you use? (excluding washes)

  • were do you get your models? do you get them of a different website or just the games workshop

  • just wanted to let you know....that its simply amazing how well you paint and you make them seem like the company did it or sumthing wat im trying to sayis thats amazing now im also very knew to the models of warhammer and youve been an extreme help but i just got a question on the body black wash. it just i see wat it dose but do i really need it or is it just for extra detial?

  • hey, im new to this whole universe of warhammer, but i plan on starting up the tabletop soon, and these tutorials are deeply helpful when it comes to techniques, great job

  • Holy crap, that is a lot of layers of paint !! And to do that for an entire army would take a normal person over six months to a year to do it justice. My next project (after my Dark Eldar are finished) will be White Scars - so this will come in handy.

    Thanks Les !!

  • @BerryBoysen If you're just starting out, welcome to the hobby! After purchasing and assembling these miniatures, you can paint them however you want! There are some color schemes for certain official "Chapters" but the choice is all yours!

  • @BerryBoysen Well Its how you paint them. They advertise them as the ultra marines, but you can paint them however you want.

  • Can you please tell me what's the name and size of the brushes you used?

  • Can anybody tell me if i should get ultra marines or White scars

  • @xXDISCOMONK they both use the same codex you know ;) but i would go with white scars :)

  • @xXDISCOMONK naturally I'm going to say White Scars because

1.I used to have an army of them.

    2. I'm sick of constantly seeing Ultramarines on the gaming table.

    But its personal preference.

  • can you do a tutorial on how to paint knights of the raven

  • what are that your are using to hold your space marine?

  • @niko22699 I dont know what he is using, but try any object you feel comfortable holding, stick some blue tac then put the mini on it.

  • Would Badab Black still work for the wash?

  • Can you do a tutorial on Space orks?

  • @MrRabidCat The most recent tutorial is on Orkz.

  • @awesomepaintjob Really? I cant find it anywhere. Would you mind giving me the link? In the mean time I'll carry on looking.

  • @BerryBoysen trolololol

  • I thought the white scars trim was orange. . .

  • When I had one 2 one lessons on white scars they said astronomic grey

  • What's the Vallejo equivalent of codex grey, fortress grey and skull white?

  • how did u get the white undercoat so clean and clear and no loss of detail

  • I watched this simply becuase I needed to know how to paint after a white Undercoat (Working on The Order of the Sacred rose) Thanks for the helpful video.

  • do you spray paint them first or just hand paint the whole thing

  • @M4ST3RCH13F98 Airbrush...

  • Do you use games workshop brushes? I can never get mine to stay that straight. They're too soft.

  • what kind of helmet is that?

  • @TheCitrusGames It's probs one of the helmets from one of the miniatures in the Assault on Black Reach set, as you can see on the shoulder pad and the gun placement, but if you'd like one of those helmets separately, you should buy some of the Grey Knights, the ones introduced in april, if i remember correctly.

  • what paint brushes are you using

  • LOL, to me, 5:14 would be a finished marine....

  • What is the water:paint ratio for black washing?

  • i like but now i have to repaint my army .... :(

  • Very nice, thank you.

  • could you paint grey knights but give it a look like its old and been in battle for centuries by dry brushing

  • Imagine painting 5000 points worth of these

  • wow your amazing . I could never do that. I play chaos space marines. the hardes't one to paint was the chaos space marine sorccerer with inforcer sword

  • no skull white for a white armor? lol^^

  • As your other tutorials, this is nice. Good... I think it is time to paint my Whitescars. Didn't know how to solve whites (until now)

  • Your washes always seem to go on so smoothly. Whenever I use a black wash on any of my miniatures they always get stained. How can I prevent washes from staining my figures?

  • how did you get soft body wash ?

  • @kidkrank

Go to his website, he has a tutorial on how to make it :) (at lest last time i checked)

  • Great video. I've been looking for a good tutorial on weathering white, and this is pretty much what I was looking for. Thanks!

  • did you start washing on a white undercoat or a blank plastic model? thanks

  • @Aukslius white undercoat.

  • @awesomepaintjob

if I try to paint a white undercoat it always fails miserably. Do you spray it, one time?

  • @awesomepaintjob

Do you apply all the basecoats after another. Codex Grey, Fortress Grey, Skull white?

  • @awesomepaintjob What vallejo colors did you use?

  • @awesomepaintjob Great tutorial, nice job!

  • @awesomepaintjob what was the first paint

  • @12Legohalo Just use badab black! :D

  • @awesomepaintjob sorry for asking but when you undercoat the model with white you use GW's spray or something else? ty

  • @Aukslius

lol good to know. Thats why my first wash failed! It turned out pretty awesome though (after to many layers).

  • You should definitly comment at the same time your doing your paint jobs there fantastic and by commenting on your videos while painting if you know what i mean could really help people understand why your putting like so many coats does it do a nice shading effect etc like i see you painting but i would like to know more of what to paint with the specific color etc just a idea it could really help more people especially a dumbo like me :P

  • Can you just paint it fortress grey first, without codex grey?

  • the wash becomes that clear when it gets dry?

  • this will work excellent with my custom chapter the archangels

  • Dude, your brushes must be microscopic, I have to use a toothpick.

  • @Extremehalofan14 dont know what brushes les is using for this one but the ones i use are Windsor Newton Series 7, 000 is the smalest i have and that is tiny. the ones only ones i use are 000, 00, 0 ,1 and 2, all i need,.

  • hey i was wondering if i painted a space marine a different colour from the old blue thing like if i were to paint it black with green trim would that make any difference like make it less powerful?

    please reply

  • what did u use at the very begining?

  • Can you do eldar videos?

since not alot of people actually make them and make them often.

  • This is really helpful. Been dreaming of doing a Chaos Space Marine army in all white. They are ghosts so I wanted to give them a sort of ethereal look to them. I was scared to death of doing white. I'm not so scared anymore. Gonna give this a try and see what happens. Thanks, you're the man.

  • OMG this is awesome. Any1 interested should come check out his community page: MiniWarGaming. com Awesome!!!

  • awesome!!

    your really talented!

what kind of brush do you use?

  • very nice. i have always loved this tutorial but was too afraid to try it due to possible inconsistencies within my army but i just tried it and i love it! thank you very much for making videos ghat are better than ones you could pay for for free!!

  • Hmmm, you might win something if you enter one of these guys into a golden Demon conteset.

  • Why is the base attached to a larger one and why is that attached to a paint jar?

  • @Dazzacopley easier to paint that way. not holding onto the base which means you got more room around the model :)

  • I've been doing a lot of reading as of late into model tank weathering. My search has led me to many different methods and takes on the subject and I've landed squarely in the land of military modeling, where many wargamers fear to tread.

    Over the years,

  • @seena152 By weathering do you mean paint chepping on the edges etc.?

Over the years, I've done my share of weathering experimentation and even created my own tutorial for a very simplistic approach to the subject that many wargamers out there could emulate with what they already have available to them.

  • I love you so much.

  • Nice !

  • Nice ! Very Very good job ! :)

  • I really enjoy your work! 5*

  • Do you need Fortress Grey?

  • your brush control is incredible: 3:40 BLOODY HELL!

  • do u mix chaos black with water to blackwash ?

  • @DanishDude93 basicly

  • i wanna paint space marines again

  • Hmmm....never even thought of starting w/ white undercoat!

  • i prime mine grey, then white it gives easy shading

  • youre amazing! thanks! now i know how to really paint my white scars

  • What is best, painting it black or white at the beginning? Or doesn't it matter?

  • Soft body black wash......can this be substituted for GW badab black?

    Thanks for the Tutorial, man.

  • @charlieofgondor YES! Just water it down a little and you should be fine.

  • im persuming u bascoted the model white to begin with beacuse i tried spraying my scout white and it didnt come out right so could u give me a methord to paint them in black ?

  • @dellzarack the method shown here works for black primed models also.

  • @dellzarack you can base them in black then drybrush lightly in white and then apply a black wash. then follow the tutorial from awesomepaintjob on the point that he is done with the washes and proseed your painting

  • i noticed that priming a model grey, then white creates nice lowlights then i begin to build up the white. have you ever tried this?

  • @awesomepaintjob cool :D I don't trust myself making the washes XD

  • what did you use to prime it?

  • @NinJistic117 Color Place Flat White

  • @awesomepaintjob can i just use skull white?

  • Dude, awesome vid as always. Just wondering, how to awoid getting pencil strokes... I get strokes even if i dilute?

    Thanks beforehand!

  • @Sickomorvus If you've tried diluting and using more coats without success, my best suggestion (which is the one someone should have given you a long time ago I suspect) is to use a softer bristle. Soft bristles won't show brush strokes as much. :)

  • @LairoTaiyoukai lol who is using hard bristle brushes? Unless you are using the white handle Testors brushes with the thick black plastic bristles they are all soft. Natural hair and synthetic brush technology are pretty matched now a days. So even if you buy the cheap pack of 10 synthetic brushes at Michaels, you should not have problems. If you dilute 1:1 you should not have stroke marks, unless you are not letting previous coats dry entirely.

  • Not quite true. There is a significant difference still. Camel hair to horse hair is a huge difference. Hog hair is bloody rough. If you go to a proper art shop they'll have brushes of all sizes and hair types. I find most synthetic brushes have really hard bristles and don't hold paint very well... I like using the real brushes.

  • How much do you dilute all your paints? because recently ive been getting the ugly chalky/lumpy effect on the armour plates :(

Some advice from the pro (APJ) would be nice xD

  • thanks dude. by far the best painting tutorial on youtube. thanks for showing a step by step tutorial =]

  • so i have a space mrine army... unpainted and i really want to start painting white scars (they look frigen awsome!)..i watched the vid... its great an amazoing job keep it up but i need some helpi have like 7 main coulers and no washesh and i have run out of money would you know if there are any alternativ cheaper paints to the standard citadel paint collection

    ?

  • @kickapoo120 Vallejo Game Color. I get mine from thewarstore

  • i wish i had your hand precision

  • wow awesome paintjob! just wondering would the citadel black wash get close to the same effect?

  • @xplaya222 Thanks! Yeah any black wash should work fine. As long as it outlines the details on the model you are good-to-go!

  • This might sound stupid, but im quite confused.

when you paint the hand and arm codex grey at about 3:29 do you proceed to paint the whole body in it too?

  • yes. The end model has it's hands match the rest of the armor so the technique is repeated everywhere the armor will be white.

  • an awesome tactic for a marble white is this:

base coat black, foundation of space wolves grey, and then apply the skull white. probably not great for white scars unless you added a second coat of white.

  • If i want a white space marine what soft ink color bo i need for the ink color to be like a light sort of ice blue?
