If you read a lot of Ramones books and band books, you will find out that Ramones started punk, a lot of people say that the sex pistols were true punk but they came out after the Ramones, Sid was even obsessed with Dee Dee Ramone and Dee Dee gave him the padlock necklace that he always wore. All the sex pistols did was create a different version of punk, but the Ramones were the true founders!!

@AgileBeast888 If you go by the true definition of Punk, going against the norm of music, you could say that Elvis technically started punk as he was the first whiteboy to play rock. Or maybe the MC5, one of the first to say "Fuck" in a song, or maybe even Iggy Pop, the guy that each member of the ramones were massive fans of during high school? I don't think one can really say with certainty which band started punk rock, but the Ramones definaetly started 'Pop-Punk'. Great band too.
