Scary! That little bit of posturing it did in the very beginning of the video. Very scary! Luckily she seemed more interested in play than in chasing you guys off of her spot in the flow. Out of all the seals in the world, Leopard seals scare me the most. They have absolutely WICKED teeth, and they kind of remind me of cobras. I think it's how long and narrow they are, and the shape of thier heads. You're much braver than I am!
Naaawe, it looks as if she want's the other diver to scratch her belly ^___^ She really did enjoy your company, and if it was from curiosity or just enjoying it, I guess we'll never know. But leopard seals, although top predators, are not THAT aggressive towards diving humans, correct me if I'm wrong?
They are a little scarier in appearance than other seals. I think its the tall narrow head, large eyes and the hi-lights probably exaggerate them. She is adorable though. Lovely character.
@Back7sword A little ? This animal is friggin HUGE. Looks like a seal on steroids, i wouldn't be there when it's pissed off, or hungry. But beautiful animal nonetheless.
Arent elephant seals the biggest seals in the world though? I dont think there more dangerous than a leopard seal though. Maybe with the elephants seals weight their dangerous.
Thanks. Do you know the other diver any chance of uploading the shots he got.Would be interesting to see how much of the camera was in the seals mouth. You two are brave men well done.
they are not angry! Our problem as humans is we give human traits to wildlife. This seal is simply curious about a new underwater mammal. A show of teeth is his way of saying 'look what I got, don't mess with me.' Ever think of how, as humans, we 'bear' our teeth when we smile at someone. Something to think about.
You're tempting fate. The leopard seal is a predator and could easily mistake a human for a different type of seal, which it kills often. These are wild animals, people.
We werent tempting fate just having a scenic dive around an iceberg when up pops a leopard seal who was just curious and spent about 5 mins with us a great experience. Manchester John.
these creatures aren't as safe as u might think,i remember hearing on the news a few years ago about a young british girl diver that was grabbed and pulled down into the depths by one such seal,it let her go after she had drowned, accidental i dont think so
I would have a rope tied to myself and the boat in case it would try to drown me. No wait I would never dive there. I hate sealeopards. Thank you for the video.
How the heck did you guys find the only a few hours after I posted it?
Still working on the rest of the videos. Next one posted will be the cool icberg near the ship after the continent stop. Filmed from above and below the water!
Dunno Bob! Just had an idea to search out Leopard seals-saw the F*#kin hell headline and knew that it was our trip, video had been posted for 3 hours then. Will look out for your Iceberg!
