this is great lets name the great back singers from left linda lewis , brenda jones, eve salter fantastic version of an otherwise pointless song - come on get down bitch -
What a way of meeting people and get to see their talent. At first was reluctant being on youtube, but getting to do this has brought me into the houses of some very special people. You are one of them. Life; isn't it wonderful!!! Keep up the good work. Have A Splendid Day!!!!
The70's..... such a beautiful time for black culture & music.....Women were respected, social commentary, the message was love, Good Times, What's Happening, The Jeffersons, Flip Wilson, Sanford and Son, Naturals were cut tight, Soul Train Saturday Mornings, J5, Muhammad Ali, SOUL Brotha, Right on!!!....Shaft, Foxy Brown, Super Fly, Ice Cream truck in the hood, Afro pick with the Black Power salute on the end....BLACK WAS BEAUTIFUL!!....Lets get it back!! Compton CA 136th & Wilmington Ave!!
Great song but this version loses the soul - it's too fast and is all over the place. The ending is kinda dissapointing compared to the other live performances out there too. Check out others on youtube - especially the one from Soul Train.
I have not understood how really great she is until now. Her voice and energy take you to another place. Its an out of body experience. She inproves so well with her voice and her soul. God bless you. Thanks.
@lytwielder - that's because she simply can't lip sync. Watch the director's commentary on the Blues Brothers DVD - they talk about which artists can't lip sync, such as James Brown, Aretha, and John Lee Hooker. On the bright side, in the movie that was really James singing live in the church and JLH on the street. With some very clever and creative editing, the producers were able to get a reasonable looking number from Aretha in her soul food restaurant.
Baby cant nobody sing like this woman,,,,Aretha is fabulous.....She rocked that melody as only Aretha can do.................listen at how she rides that groove........WoW!
@DusaCharisma no dear this is definately a saree..the way its draped and also the cloth .its a hand made silk with gold thread made only in one region of india ..
Yeah Kats, my moma told me that back in the 60's and 70's; Aretha was the woman EVERY black woman wanted 2 be. She was my moms music IDOL and Smokey was my dads. My mom used to wear some red hot pants when she would go out when I was a kid; and she always wore that fat fluffy black sno ball shaped hair piece on the very top of her head. I remember hearing her say; when I was a kid "Girl I gotta look like Aretha!" LOL
funkier than a smelly toilet that guitar is skanking all over that groove and those gospel backgrounds make you think they are taking you to church and then the Queen comes in with that voice from God and rips it. Great version and this here is FUNK
@TheNewsoul2 COME ON!!!!! YES!!! ROCK STEADY. Look at how aretha uses hand claps and church to bring the spirit. I love you! Listen to the band and how the live arrangement is slightly different from LP. the structure is there. however, it's faster, and the guitar player is taking more liberties. It takes a seasoned player to understand when and how this is done. MUSICIANS tend to want to stick to recordings. I thought we were CREATIVE! But we DO NOT destroy the composition.
Wow! Aretha looks so beautiful in this video!

the watchword in the UK used to be that Aretha's singing was the Voice of God - not seriously of course, but in tribute
