  • I wish their performace of I Found A Reason on here was around

  • She reminds me a little of Mary Tyler Moore if she wore her hair like that.

  • The ending was a bit abrupt-is there a slightly longer ending?

  • Oh I'd run right to you all right at least at the time you sang this-today i'd probably run the other way! J/K......! Man oh man what a tune! She is awesome!

  • Kenny rodgers and the roasters what a cool group.

  • Did he sell fried chicken 1st and then sing? the Colonel should of had a band too

  • @scotter420wigb Be careful what you say. He might read this and be inclined to have another facelift.

  • This is a great example of a fine female vocalist from long ago...before American Idol woman attempted to sing in their contemporary fashion, where they all sound alike and have the same style of singing, like they are trying to be a spunky, soulful R&B singer that 's lived off the streets, and can kick your ass. Where's the sweet and beautiful talented, pure/innocent singing that was so nice to listen to from that time?

  • wow I cannot believe how beautiful she sings... I still can't believe Kenny Roger's was actually cool at one time before his shitty country music career... I wouldn't have left the music scene to sign country! :\

  • Not too long after this was telecast I saw the First Edition in a live concert at a college. One of the songs they performed was this one.It got the biggest and longest applause.I had a chance to congradulate Thelma after the concert-and not too much later I bought the album this was on-which I still have.

  • @SIGNALSTAT ,I wanted to ask, did Kenny and Thelma have a thing at that time?

I thought so, but I don't really know, I was too young at this time:)

  • @sheltiepaws1 yea from everything i have read he was really a ladies man some of the women were dottie west not sure about dolly parton diane parkinton the model from the price is right.

  • @SIGNALSTAT I knew about his affair with Dian Parkinson,or just bits and pieces of it from what I read, but I think him and Dottie West were just good friends.

  • 2old2Rock:

thank you so much for this video. I was totally a Thelma Comacho fan and I loved this song as well as "Wishes Were Horses", "I Passed You By", "Hurry Up Love" to name a few. I am sorry Thelma left the group. In my opinion I do not like that they turned into a one man show because there was definite talent there with Thelma, Mike and Terry.

  • When the group was first formed, Thelma Camacho was to be the lead singer (BTW, she does a great job). However, Reprise Records, the First Edition's label, wanted Kenny Rogers, the bass player, to be the lead singer because his distinctive vocal style would be more marketable.

Also, Kenny Rogers grew a beard while in the First Edition because he decided it would make him look younger as he was the oldest member of the band.

  • Is this the only song where kenny rogers did'nt sing lead when the first edition were together?

  • @johnny10301968 Nope he sang about 65 percent of the songs. They all sang leads except for Gene Lorenzo.

  • perfect song for a drive in the desert

  • So beautiful.

    I love this song.

But Kenny rogers& the first edition's cd which i have isn't included.

    So, I have a question.

Is there a CD of song which is titled "i get a funny feeling"??

If anybody know, please tell me.

  • Thelma didn't marry Roger Miller. Her replacement in the First Edition did-Mary Arnold.

  • Thelma was great talent, she came from a great family,it was the recording industries greatest mistake not promoting her, what a great voice.I know ,because i went to high school with her and yes she was very attractive.Augie Bareno

  • I have an album that Thelma did, I think it is called "Thelma." If I remember right, I didn't like any of the songs, it might have been disco. Anybody else got one?

  • @kittyfleas It came out in 1980. I think it's ok in spots but not as good as her work with the group.

  • where is Kenny Rogers?

  • at 1;19 Kenny is above and to the left of singer Thelma

  • i wonder why they fired her? she looks like she could talk her way out of being late a coupla times. i would'nta fired her, no way

  • According to Mickey Jones' book "That Would Be Me", Thelma Camacho was fired from the group in the spring of 1969 after missing too many rehearsals and shows

She was replaced by her roommate Mary Arnold

Karen Carpenter (who was also a former New Christy Minstrel) was also considered as a replacement

Kenny apparently introduced Thelma to Roger Miller and they got married.

    A great song

  • Beautiful song

  • LOL "the second edition of the first edition" ^^

Well and the song is as great as I pretended it would be 5*!

  • What a beautiful song .love watching thelma sing.she was hot back then.lol

  • Great song.Would love to Have heard Kenny sing it.Would have been a hit if he sung it.Great song.

  • I don't think it's bad at all. I think 2old2rock is being hard on himself. It sounds just fine.

  • Kenny rogers came from New Christy minstrels and so did the girl Thelma.

Another thing: very few women look good in short hair because the long hair softens the face. Only someone with a very beautiful face and perfect bone structure can get away with a short cut like this.

  • Very True, Like Shirley Jones. Man I had the hots for her back then.

  • The fake-singer around today who actully dare put out CD's like Jessica Simpson, Lindsey Lohan, Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton (yes she made a CD!)should be forced to have to try to sing this in front of a live audience and they would have rotten fruit thrown at them I;m sure.

  • Haven't heard this song before. In spite of awkward melody and pacing & goofy title, the song is none-theless somehow beautiful and haunting. Especially since how the girl sings it. She has a lovely capable voice with good intonation.

  • This is a beautiful song. Thelma sounds beautiful! Also, I do like the style switch in the middle. Thank you for posting this GEM :)

Interesting that Thelma would start up a jewelry store.

  • Her beautiful face draws me to this video time and time again not her singing ability or voice

    but that's alright

  • If this is the worst you've heard then you obviously haven't heard Kid Rock. Ha!

  • Absolutely. You're not wrong there.

  • Thank you so much for posting this song. I have searched for it. I remembered hearing this song on TV and had never heard it again...until now. It has such a sad, haunting sound to it...

  • Soulful, brilliant, awesome

  • Mary's Photo is not on the second album the first edition did, it's Thelma. Mary Arnold did not appear on the cover of a First Edition LP until their fourth album - "Ruby".

  • Mike Settle did not front the group. There was no lead singer in the band until Kenny Rogers was thrushed into the spotlight in 1969 after it became obvious they would never have a major hit single without him on the lead, out of their 1st 6 singles Kenny sang lead on two.. the two that were hit's.

  • I always thought that Mike should have fronted the group. "I Found a Reason," "Rainbows on a Cloudy Day" and "A Patch of Clear" were really great tunes and you could hear the emotion in his voice. Kenny seemed the best for the rock tunes like "Condition" and "Charlie the Fer De Lance." Thelma could have been contemporary with Sheena Easton the way she sang this tune and "It's Gonna be Better" and "All That I Am." I've loved their stuff for the past 21 years. I don't know why they weren't bigger.

  • Did you hear that Pepsi ad that the First Edition recorded that sounded like a mix of "Charlie the Fer De Lance" (intro) and the remainder sounded like "Only Me"? I heard it on a radio ad that Pepsi called "Pepsi through the years." I once called Pepsi to try to get a copy of it, but they weren't helpful.

  • I dissagree about Mike fornting the band. He's a good singer, but sounded like another ten popular singers of the time. Kenny sounded like no one and gave the group the individuality they needed.

  • I just loved Thelma's voice. I was so disappointed not hearing any more music from her after she left the FE. :( Yes, I can tell it's Thelma on But You Know I Love You from the second album and Ruby?

  • "But You Know I Love You" and "Ruby" are both with Thelma, but they are not from the 2nd album, they are from the thrid album the first edition put out, called "First Edition '69". "Ruby" was also put on their fourth album when they changed their name to Kenny Rogers & TFE and used as the title cut because it became such a huge hit.

  • Hi FabM,

sorry, i forgot it was the third album. I have both the first and second album! Boy am I glad I bought them cause they are rare to find.

  • Yes, they are rare to find now. I think the first album was much better than the 2nd one, even though that was still good!

  • I went to Thelma's web site. She is still a beautiful woman : )

  • PS......

Before THAT-- I got to meet her at ' The Valley Dale ' (around 67'-68' ??) .....a teen club.

During the break , she was out milling in the crowd.

I walked up to her and said : THELMA LOU..... YOU HAVE THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL....... She replied : " Thanks, but I have a lot of junk in my throat tonite " in an almost tomboy way.

SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL ! ( junk or not ) and was a tiny thing.

Who knew she would diasppear --and Kenny would become a hit.

  • I had a huge crush on Thelma Lou. In the late 60's I saw them at the 'Bistro' in Columbus, Ohio . They played on a stage the size of a postage stamp and I could have reached out and touched Kenny R. I dont think TL was with them at that time. I had heard that she got messed up on LSD and was pregnant etc.... and that's why she left the group. ( T-F ?? )

  • Interesting that Thelma's style is similar here to Karen Carpenter, who auditioned for The First Edition.

  • Karen audtioned for the FE? Wow. I'm glad she didn't.

  • Do you have

    something's Burning?

  • yeah that arrangement did nobody no good. it seems to be all over the spectrum, Warwick, Mamas and Papas, Spanky and Our Gang, it wavers noticeablyand seems to change styles in the MIDDLE OF A SENTENCE. that broad can sing, though

  • Thelma was my favorite out of the group. I was so bummed when she left and when the changed the focus to just a lead singer group. Such a pretty voice and beautiful woman.

  • If anyone is interested, Thelma has her own jewelry shop now. Thelma's Jewelry Shoppe. Pre-made jewelry or custom jobs. =]

  • That lady was Thelma Camacho. What a talent. I met her many years ago. A charming and funny lady

  • Yes she is, although I don't see her very often. I'm her niece.

  • good video though not really my thing. a little too Petula Clark/Dionne Warwick for my taste

  • Thelma was an amazing singer! I wonder what The First Edition would have looked like if she had not left.

  • Probably not much different to be fair. Kenny would have still be promoted to lead singer, Mike would have still left and Terry would have still eventually wanted to have gone solo, and they would have still split in '76 with kenny going on to become a major solo act.

  • What happened I can't see the right video?

  • The young lady, ( who is, by now, near retirement age,) someone I.D.'ed as THELMA. She gives us an example of the days before Madonna, when singers could really sing! Also, I disagree that this is a bad song. Thelma's delivery makes this beautiful tune even stronger. Did she ever do any solo recording?

  • Yes, she did. I have one record, but there are others. She is my aunt. =]

  • Gab, next time you see your aunt, tell her that I had a big crush on her, so pretty, such a sweet smile, great voice.

  • thanks, dude.

bad song, but thelma sounds great!

  • The song is incredibly sad. I believe Thelma wrote it.

  • that woman sounds BEAUTIFUL!!! What a great group!!! The sounds, the melodies, the harmonies, the outfits!! LOL

  • Just an FYI - this song is called "I Get A Funny Feeling." It is from the album "The First Edition" (Reprise); The First Edition's first album.

  • Thanks. I corrected the title.
