@conor845 Thank you for giving information. There are many different opinions as you say regarding this issue. agreed in line with the national interests of their own interpretations of history, but perhaps people simply want to know the truth I think it should stay away from. Let's say you think they will easily accept the fact that they knew otherwise improved?
@MartinLutheification The first second and third crusade helped byzantium against the Islamic conquers and the first crusade only started because emperor Alexios asked for helped against the seljuks. the fourth crusade=dumb barbarians just like the islamic conquerers
@kamalrex1 I'm thinking of a video for the end of Byzantium next. Constantine XI died in the fighting and his body was never found, some believe he was buried under the Golden Gate although I think that comes from the myth about Gabriel turning him into marble. He was most probably buried in a mass grave after the siege ended, along with the other corpses.
The root of the downfall of Constantinople was the 4th Crusade in 1204 when the Christians from Western Europe attacked the city. Also that downfall made the Christians of Spain to unite and get rid of the last Muslims from Granada and led the European colonization to the Americas.
How was Ortodx christians when it came to science and knowledge?? because i have always heard that catholics always supressed it. Islam carried all credits for science achievemnts even i know Greeks and persians even Buddhists had much knowledge predated Arabs.
The most brilliant video about Byzantium I have ever seen, exactly like I imagined. Sometimes they have sinned against Georgian kingdom, but it was truly noble empire and died as a Christian martyr, different from Rome.
That's why their rise is unavoidable. He will rise from the dead purified and more noble, while Rome will be buried deeper and forever.
@conor845 if nobody changed the name of the empire for hundreds of years, no emperor thought of it, I think there is no need for some wolf guy to change it either. Its just ridiculing the empire by connecting it with a name of a village. And clearly its not greek, it is a legitimate successor of the old Roman empire and had contained many nations besides greeks...
"Byzantine empire" is the EAST ROMAN EMPIRE. The Byzantine comes from Byzant, thats a village near which Constantinople was built. Byzantine empire is a name created in 16th century by westerners who wanted to laugh of the name of Empirium Romanus.
Don't worry, in next WW 3 we will nuke Turks and take what is ours. Christian flag shall arise over Constantinople. Justice is slow but it always comes.
brilliant video mate ;)... you know many of the byzantine kings had armenian heritage.. from the macadonian dynasty just an interesting fact i thought i'd share... since i am armenian haha ;)
Well, the term "Byzantine" has been given as a derogatory. This Empire was the Eastern Roman Empire known to its citizens simply as the Roman Empire and them were self-termed as Roman citizens. The main core of the Empire was the nation of Greeks but the Empire included other nations, primarily the Armenians and Amorians and Pamplagonians from eastern Minor Asia who afterall gave most Emperors (Greeks might had been still the civilisational powerhouse and the administration but gave few Emperors
@TheusZeusDeus ... there are still a lot that we ignore on the Eastern Roman Empire, especially on "how it fell". Cos it was not the illiterate Crusaders, and certainly not the even more illiterate Ottomans that caused its downfall. The downfall of that Empire (like most Empires) came out of within. It had been the Venetians who designed and caused the downfall of the Empire but then the Venetians were nothing else than the Byzantine plutocratic oligarchies themselves who had invested in Venice.
The walls are only as strong as the men who guard them. The theodosian walls held , as for the men who held them, none more brave then the last king himself. But with numbers so great the last king could not withstand. But he died like a true king. leading men on the counter offense. A toast to the last roman emperor.
it was actually called eastern roman empire.and even tho everyone thinks II mehmed had beard in the siege are wrong.he was drawen like that so that they wont have the shame to be defeated by someone too young.
Nice video. I must say that the Byzantine empire was Greek speaking it was more like a Greek Roman empire. Also emperor Basil II was a great emperor and Emperor Alexius Comnenus. The Byzantines faced many enemies such us Slavs Persians Vikings Goths Arabs, Crusaders, Turks Bulgarians, Avars and others and they managed to survive for 1.150 years. And finally the last Byzantine states that fell were the Despotate of the Morea (1460) and the empire of Trabzon (1461).
@Zorro11144 Sure the Vikings attacked Constantinople sometimes in the beginning of the Viking age to get better trading agreements with the Byzantine empire.
The Emperors was very impressed of the vikings fighting spirit and loyalty and battle skill so they hired them as their elite soldiers and they also become the Byzantines emperors personal bodyguard. (The Varangian guard)
@BirkaViking Yes that is true but in the begining they were a threat both the Normans and the Rus but later they came to an agreement. The Byzantines indeed admired the Viking fighting spirit and they best Byzantine soldiers were the Varangian guard. The Varangian guard participated in battles against the Bulgars and the Arabs in the east. It was protecting Byzantium untill the end.
