this sucks..just buy a freaking ssd with bigger storage and use it as your primary drive. My pc boots in 24secs cold boot and 21secs restart and shut downs in only 5
Can anyone help me? My Smart Response Technology interface screen doesn't have an "accelerate button" Do i need a new version of the software or something?
I purchased new board and OCZ ssd to use this.. but.. although everything looks right.. in system report it shows size: 56GB Available Space: 0 GB.. is this normal? I noticed the drive appears no place in Win7(64bit) .. So I now don't know if the drive has always been broke or normal?
oh btw this is found by hitting HELP and going to system report in Intel Rapid Storage program.. shows everything green checked and ids etc.. but Available Space: 0 GB..???
So this is really only beneficial if you are using a smaller size SSD, correct? Otherwise if you have a larger size SSD (120GB+) may as well install the entire OS on that drive and use your older TB drive for storage/backup.
@yuri00r Yes, think about it: In this video he installed Windows on the HDD, he then set up the ISRT (formatting only the SSD), and rebooted the system. Windows was still installed, so you know the HDD wasn't formatted.
Why do people waste there time benchmarking boot time? Its NOT about boot time, its about application load and wait time in it! Personally I'd ditch the boot example (Useless), and show the diff between a 20G SSD +1TB Smart Response system, and a 100% SSD System without smart response.
now instead of buying a motherboard and ssd why not buy a seagate XT momentus hybrid which i think can give better performance than this srt technology.
DO NOT plug in the SSD until you've already installed the OS and Intel RST driver. There is a bug of sorts, where it seems that Windows writes a portion of the OS boot files to the SSD if installed. This results in a "boot/bcd" error message on reboot after enabling RST. Banged my head off this issue for several hours before trying Windows install with SSD disconnected, and then it worked a treat. Hope this helps.
Mac osx shuts down in 3 seconds on a 5400rpm drive... Why does windows take longer when it has this... I don't hate windows or macs bout they both have their advantages and disadvantages
Meh, 48 secs vs the normal 57 secs. Not really that impressive if you ask me. Why don't they just make a PCIe card with cheap DDR3 RAM to do the caching. It'll be much faster. Better yet, why don't they get the HDD makers to increase the cache size like they're suppose to. Back in the days of 30 GB hard drives, we already had 32MB of cache size, and that was 10yrs ago!
@excthour however he uses the files once, so if he uses them loads then the SRT will recognize this and then move more of the files over to the ssd meaning that if you were to (for example) setup srt and use google chrome once then there would be a slight imporvement however the more you use chrome the more the srt recognizes this meaning it will get faster as it learns what programs you use.
@excthour that's one scenario. on average and almost everyday things it's 3-4X faster on almost any aspect. Loading, games, editing, etc. So for the price of a cheap 50 dollar SSD that is great price-performance ratios.
@excthour that would be the best since there wont even be a slow bios startup since you dont need the RAID setting. Do you know if there are HDD's that do have 32mb of cache?
@excthour it's about a 10 second quicker boot up and 5 second quicker boot down. That doesn't sound like a whole lot but 10 seconds sitting around on a computer is nothing to thumb your nose at. But it really shines with the heavy work load. Loading programs in 38 seconds or 7 seconds? That's a huge difference. Besides, you can get a 30 gig SSD for under 50 bucks. Is that worth it? Well I guess it depends on your system but I'd say hell yeah it is.
@excthour a PCIe card with DDR3 RAM? Why? DDR RAM is volatile (it looses all the data after the computer is powered off) and making it on a PCIe would make it slower than plugging it directly into the motherboard where RAM should be.
As for the cache size on HDDs, it's not going to compare to the 20-60GB you get with an SSD.
@excthour Because there are more people who own even small SSDs. And since SSD is the next big thing in storage; having this feature, whether you intend to use it or just go for full fledge 120+ GB SSD, is a nice touch. And it's not just boot time that is affected...
@Rayman400 pretty sure the touch bios is for when you are IN windows. Since at the start its not even at the OS so its just going into normal bios as apposed to the Touch BIOS which you can acess from the desktop
@Rayman400 touch bios operates through windows. but seeing that your comment is 8 months old, you've probably heard that about 15 times now. guess that's just one of the recoils of having a top comment... deal with it.
Love the driver update application. The fact that it's designed for that series of boards and means that you don't have to search for the drivers off of the other parties' websites makes life easier. The only thing that worries me is the fact that board manufacturers such as Gigabyte and ASUS tend to take a while to get the latest ones on their download services and/or websites [sometimes never getting the latest ones].

@excthour I recall drives having 2mb cache back then. Google "WD Caviar® WD300BB" and you'll see they came with 2MB of Cache. NOT 32mb.
I do like your other ideas though.

@excthour actually if you take the time it took to load the bios it was a lot faster than an 11 sec difference.

Hello quick questions for you. Did you test the:
>HDD + SDD in SATA3GBs or SATA6GBs
>Does it work with SATA3GBs [ONLY] or SATA6GBs aswell
>Would getting a faster HDD like a WD Black 7200RPM 64Mb cache and a
60-64GB SSD with read speeds of 400Mbs+ and write speeds of 400Mbs+ make the whole system run faster?
