I dont see why everyone blames the media for self esteem problems, attractive people DO exist in the real world. If you actually were to watch TV for a half hour the amount of anorexic or fantastically attractive people you would see would be about as normal as if you were just walking down the street. Even if TV and the internet disappeared people would still be comparing themselves to others, its just human nature. Idk, maybe i dont fully understand but thats just my view.
i belive, if everyone on this planet would (truely) love his self, the world would be a MUCH better place for anyone. no wars, no fights, no society that looks like this.

Beauty is on the inside. I'm not a size 4 or blond and i dont care. I learned to feel comfortable in my own skin. I like this video cuz this is real. Little kids are being pressured when they shouldn't be.
This is an amazing video. Only issue I have with it is that at the end when it says "Talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does", it's putting more responsibility on the parent than the beauty industry for the problems it causes. Parents' influence is strong, but media and culture is much more pervasive.
I agree that men have pressure also, but I don't think people should hate this video just cuz it targets girls. I'm a size 8 or so pants, and I don't look fat when i look in the mirror, but when i look around me, I'm a fat ass. I know I'm not skinny, but why is skinny pretty? In the olden days, if you were skinny, that was a bad thing, cuz you didn't have enough to eat. I like this video because it makes me feel like I'm not alone.
@HotChic466 Hell yea back in the medieval days being fat was a sign of wealth (not too fat lol). Personally I like big women but they have to be physically fit as well as mentally. I have witnessed big beautiful women do martial arts as good as someone who has mastered the art. What a turn on!
TRY THIS---------------------------> walk around your local grocery store or where ever, and bring a magazine with you like Cosmo, 17 mag, or People mag ect... then walk around the store and see how many people look like the people in the magazines. ........ this really helped me see how distorted my thoughts have been
Ironic! How can a company who is influence in beauty products make something like this? I wouldn't believe. And I don't, actually.
It's not a bad campaign, it brings a reality to our society. But it's comming from the wrong company! Would them stop selling that kind of product? I don't think so!
It's so sad. I feel exactly the same. I've never even had a person call me ugly once in the past 6 or 7 years, yet, i feel insanely ugly and fat....I'm 125 pounds. Yep, folks. This is what the American media does to women.
if guys wernt all "dang she got a nice body" or all of that other crap, us girls wouldnt have to feel pressure to b perfect in front of guys..... they should look for personality instead of some slut on the cover of a magazine who isnt even real! Ladies, we are the most beautiful creating on earth and nobody can change that! WHOS WITH ME?!?!
I used to think I was ugly when I was like 11 because a lot of girls were skinnier and had pretty hair with makeup and I had hand me down clothes really thick bushy hair and glasses and I was a bit overweight over Time I blossomed I started wearing makeup and bought from aeropostale made my hair look WAYY better and ditched the glasses and I'm now working on becoming a healthy weight range for my age I'm now 14 in 8th grade and personally I think the beauty industry actually helped me become a
i cant believe that society has set the type of image shown today of what beauty should look like to young girls and women. honestly nobody is perfect even the models in magazines it all photoshop and makeup. beauty isnt based off how thin you are, how much makeup you wear, and if we are flawless. beauty is found in a persons flaws and on the inside
I am so AGGRAVATED by people that are constantly blaming SKINNY people for the media's distortion of beauty. Skinny people are affected by the media's distortion of beauty, just like overweight, fat, or morbidly obese people. These days, the media is teaching girls like me, that no matter what, you'll never be good enough.
shes pretty the way she is, and she is just an adorable child. every child deserves that right to be thought of as adorable. even if they have a face only a mother could love
@MelavaXP When it comes to the beauty industry, women do have it tougher. It's a fact. Men face problems, but when it comes to beauty, it's not at all to the extent of women. Women are encouraged to forever be young and perfect, men have to be tough and providing. It's a sad society. And do you honestly believe that women don't have self esteem issues "down there", women can't be nerdy, women get beat up emotionally, and women have a lot of pressure to be the perfect girlfriend?
Isn't it fucked up that women must be skinny, have perfect eyebrows and skin, and lined, defined eyes in order to be beautiful? If a woman does not wear eyeliner and have flawless skin, it's immediately deemed ugly. On top of it all, we have these ads that aren't even REAL. It's an impossible, not even human, standard of beauty. Our girls at a young age see this, of course they're going to have self esteem issues! The media wants us to feel like crap, day in and day out... this is an ugly world.
I hate the pressure to feel I need to be better and maintain a certain image, I'm 14 and can't go 10 minutes without thinking of something to make myself better. I just wanna be a little kid again, like 3 years old when I had no worries what so ever.
I love the music and sounds in this ad. Dove dropped this campaign now though, they thought it was failing. They don't really care about the media corrupting young girls, they want profits.
@JoshRoweice If the ad campaign was failing, that means people weren't listening to it. Apparently it's not just Dove who doesn't care about us falling victim to beauty pressure - it's also us.
@JoshRoweice I thought this was their best campaign. It really made me feel better about myself even though i didnt go to their workshop. Watching the videos really make a difference.
@TheSjpatrik I love how everyone just ignores you, must feel like real life to you. Now, this doesn't count as I was merely pointing out how everyone ignores you, you could say i'm still ignoring you.
Why are some people blaming just the men on these ads? It's not just men in the beauty industry, women have allowed themselves to be models. I'll blame anyone who thinks women need to look "sexy" for these ads!
If us men would just stop buying women's magazines, women's cosmetics, women's clothes, women's breast implants, women's parfumes, et cetera, girls would feel better about themselves.
Because if it wasn't for us men, who exactly would buy these products? Who would prove to the female beauty industry, that these ad's work and thereby encourage them to increase the volume? Women? That's absurd!
I love this. For a school project, we were supposed to make magazines that had a specific target audience. Every single girl other than me did a fashion magazine. I did an anti-fashion magazine about inner beauty and people (like Anne Frank) who are truly amazing. I used this to show how how the media fakes so much, and started my speech off with this. Blew their minds. They loved this video. (: Needless to say I got an A. (:
Hey everyone! I'm conducting a project for my French class, involving one simple question: What does beauty mean to you? Please go to my channel and reply with a video or a comment!
I've chosen to write my ENG 100 rhetorical analysis on this ad, and since yesterday I've watched it over 100 times. I still get chills and goosebumps, and my heart just pounds from the beginning when the music starts to intensify... Until just the other day when I found this, I thought it was just me after talking to a bunch of girls and a few teachers at my school. Glad I was wrong...
I think this video is cleverly made and send out an important message! But I wont say wanting to be beautiful is a bad thing, just if that is your main focus in life, counting calories and turning into an anorexic! then that is bad! and you should have a balance in life, beacuse being beautiful on the outside only doesnt get you far in life. And you have to be beautiful on the inside to see that!
@SecretSinSaysItAll it's not fair to say that you blame this problem on men...they are just as much a victim of the media as we women are. Being constantly exposed to images of skinny, photoshopped, flawless women in the media distorts their perceptions of beauty, and they come to expect such things of women. We live in a culture where this is normal. Don't blame men, blame the media
everyone seeks someone attractive BUT the turn-on-factor lies in the eyes of the beholder, my mate. some women like hairy chests, some don't. some like washboard abs and some like a bit of a beer belly...
some men like smalls perky boobs, some like big voluptuous ones. some want bubbles butts to hold on to, some like small tight ones...
but teens don't realize this yet - unless you're hideously disfigured you won't need a plastic surgeon to be with the partner of your choice...
@nightflight83 The video never implied anything about men wanting attractive women. It's about the beauty industry attacking women and girls insecurities. It's trying to show that it attacks girls at a very young age, and also kind of a warning to parents. Honestly, I'm a little sick of men always assuming that we blame them for our low self esteem.
do you seriously think the message in that video is "women shouldn't have to be attractive?" What women find attractive can vary, whereas women AND men are force-fed the idea that only CERTAIN kinds of beauty are acceptable in women, and that all women should aspire to that idea, because beautiful is the most important thing a woman can be. Men are not stupid, and women are not decoration. You want to help make that point, don't post comments like this one.
@SecretSinSaysItAll Not entirely the mans fault, as the beauty industry are making a lot of men think that girls are much more 'perfect' than the average girl really is, just like how they're telling the females (or males in some cases) how they should really look like, shown in their advertisements.
@llamadog714 Well, I believe its both sexes fault. Why because we're both scientifically programmed to attract the opposite sex: women attract men and men attract women. Just like us girls, men also face the same body pressures. Haven't you seen the Abercrombie models or the models from men's magazines like Men's health, maxim, muscle fitness? They're also airbrushed to look perfect. Plus guy also think that's what we girls expect from them. Just as we girls are graceful and guys are athletic.
@llamadog714 Yes, and the tobacce industry just created itself and made people smoke...NO, people smoked, an industry came. Women were nothing but beautiful slutty cooks for centuries so this is the outcome. 'don't blame this on men' Please...
@llamadog714 In actuality we're all at fault here our tendency to follow according to what society prescribes as beautiful or not is a direct reflection of a lack of critical thinking skills accompanied by poor parenting. Women like men are individuals and should be judged based on content of character over the current theme in the media propagating more emphasis on looks than personality. In order to shift the paradigm of things women will need to be less self-critical of their appearance and
I know there are a lot of shallow people in the world, but many develop things like eating disorders because they want people to see them as perfect and like them. Some even stem from wanting to have control over something and your eating disorder ends up controlling you.
"it's mens/americas/hollywoods fault" need to look in the mirror. not at their 'fatness/ugly hair/wrinkles, but at their personality. im overwieght, frizzy haired, zitsy but im not blaming anyone. i feel good about myself anyways. people need to get ovet pressure.
@xKawaiixPrincessx Young males are very intransigent, be calm, natural beauty will always be appreciated by kind and nice hearts of mature and calm humans =D.
@darkapaul It is NOT at all the same. Men have, across time and space, been over-privileged--meanwhile women are left with the biological, cultural, and societal baggage.
this is so inspiring and true. when you're 40, you don't have to look like you're 20. own who you are. 40 is HOT, without surgery, makeup, or anything like that. focus on taking care of yourself, not making you LOOK like you do. I really love this video.
I've entered a competition concerning this issue. If I could have any of your votes (if you're reading this, that is you :)) It would be very much appreciated:
@xKawaiixPrincessx so what? if you doesn't turn on, then you doesn't turn on, it's not your fault. plus the girls also wants to find their men physically attractive. don't lie.
I loved this video! Honestly, it was a bit inspiring, but we showed this in my class, and the boys actually LAUGHED. U.N.B.E.L.I.E.V.A.B.L.E. I actually thought that their minds might have changed at least just a little bit, but nope, boys will be boys.
the beauty industry doesn't help things, but it's basic human nature to seek out the most attractive mate that we can obtain. it's in our biology to want good genes. beauty is subjective, but the true driving force behind those thoughts are not created by the media, but when we are born. SO. it's not boy's fault they're stupid. they can't help it!
@LexieIsNotSexy That's sort of a naturalistic fallacy--AND, the paradigm of female beauty is most definitely NOT based on physical health (as evidenced with runway models). Everything we see is artificial--from the silicone implants to the airbrushing...it's merely that we've become desensitized to it, and sadly, many men can't discern fake from real.
@xKawaiixPrincessx You know that they way you act around people creates your beauty and not how you look exactly. If you're self-confident then you the beautiful girl you are; if you depressed, sad, no one will notice that. What you need to learn is getting your inner beauty outside; it's a long walk;. I tell you: (Absolute no product works) It has something to overcome your fears your sexuality; yourself..
This video is so powerful... Bombarding you at high speed intensity like that, wow. It really makes the point of how misogynistic this society is. Why aren't men expected to mold themselves to the same kind of ridiculous misguided unattainable standards? No wonder why so many teen girls have eating disorders.
We are. Every single movie ever made has told men two things, "Be handsome and strong!" and "Be rich and confident!". If we are not those things we are not even seen as men usually. In fact, most women will not take a second look at a guy who doesn't look like he is truly middle-income or better unless he looks like he should be standing next to Tom Selleck, Brad Pitt, or Taylor Lautner. The ones who do take a second look, well they don't exactly look like Jessica Biel material.
The only way this problem is ever going to get fixed is if women stop it themselves! We need to stop buying makeup! We need to stop thinking that all our problems can be solved with plastic surgery! We need to stop buying those rip-off weight loss diets/books. We need to realize as WOMEN that WE ARE NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL! We don't need your cosmetics or your surgery. God made our faces perfect just the way they are. If we needed make up, we would have been born with it on.
Good points here. I truly dislike the word 'hot' the way it is used nowadays, as if it's some kind of universally accepted factor. It isn't nor should it be."But is he/she hot?" as if one person's idea of what 'hot' looks like should be the same as another's..if it is, it's not their idea it's just manipulated consensus.

And hearing men laugh at this... What the fuck?

I think this video is cleverly made and send out an important message! But I wont say wanting to be beautiful is a bad thing, just if that is your main focus in life, counting calories and turning into an anorexic! then that is bad! and you should have a balance in life, beacuse being beautiful on the outside only doesnt get you far in life. And you have to be beautiful on the inside to see that!

It's not "beauty" pressure, it's MEDIA PRESSURE
All I see fake women in this video, except for the young girl featured.
Beauty comes from a NATURAL state, not a superficial state.
It's sad that women (and men) mutilate their natural looks for something superficial.

Yet women still seek attractive men.
nightflight83 4 months ago
@nightflight83
everyone seeks someone attractive BUT the turn-on-factor lies in the eyes of the beholder, my mate. some women like hairy chests, some don't. some like washboard abs and some like a bit of a beer belly...
some men like smalls perky boobs, some like big voluptuous ones. some want bubbles butts to hold on to, some like small tight ones...
but teens don't realize this yet - unless you're hideously disfigured you won't need a plastic surgeon to be with the partner of your choice...

@nightflight83 Men aren't sexualized in the media the way women are.
Sabricent 3 months ago
@nightflight83 You don't have to be fake to be attractive.
Kattaccino 3 months ago
@nightflight83 The video never implied anything about men wanting attractive women. It's about the beauty industry attacking women and girls insecurities. It's trying to show that it attacks girls at a very young age, and also kind of a warning to parents. Honestly, I'm a little sick of men always assuming that we blame them for our low self esteem.
luvsvolleyball27 3 months ago
do you seriously think the message in that video is "women shouldn't have to be attractive?" What women find attractive can vary, whereas women AND men are force-fed the idea that only CERTAIN kinds of beauty are acceptable in women, and that all women should aspire to that idea, because beautiful is the most important thing a woman can be. Men are not stupid, and women are not decoration. You want to help make that point, don't post comments like this one.

mtwat42 3 months ago
@SecretSinSaysItAll Not entirely the mans fault, as the beauty industry are making a lot of men think that girls are much more 'perfect' than the average girl really is, just like how they're telling the females (or males in some cases) how they should really look like, shown in their advertisements.
llamadog714 3 months ago
@llamadog714 Well, I believe its both sexes fault. Why because we're both scientifically programmed to attract the opposite sex: women attract men and men attract women. Just like us girls, men also face the same body pressures. Haven't you seen the Abercrombie models or the models from men's magazines like Men's health, maxim, muscle fitness? They're also airbrushed to look perfect. Plus guy also think that's what we girls expect from them. Just as we girls are graceful and guys are athletic.
akawhippy 2 months ago
@llamadog714 Yes, and the tobacce industry just created itself and made people smoke...NO, people smoked, an industry came. Women were nothing but beautiful slutty cooks for centuries so this is the outcome. 'don't blame this on men' Please...
imagineaboringlife 2 months ago
@llamadog714 In actuality we're all at fault here our tendency to follow according to what society prescribes as beautiful or not is a direct reflection of a lack of critical thinking skills accompanied by poor parenting. Women like men are individuals and should be judged based on content of character over the current theme in the media propagating more emphasis on looks than personality. In order to shift the paradigm of things women will need to be less self-critical of their appearance and

I know there are a lot of shallow people in the world, but many develop things like eating disorders because they want people to see them as perfect and like them. Some even stem from wanting to have control over something and your eating disorder ends up controlling you.

this is so inspiring and true. when you're 40, you don't have to look like you're 20. own who you are. 40 is HOT, without surgery, makeup, or anything like that. focus on taking care of yourself, not making you LOOK like you do. I really love this video.

@xKawaiixPrincessx Yeah, same with my class, except the boys actually LAUGHED, too.
mimilarry101 4 months ago
@xKawaiixPrincessx she does.
the beauty industry doesn't help things, but it's basic human nature to seek out the most attractive mate that we can obtain. it's in our biology to want good genes. beauty is subjective, but the true driving force behind those thoughts are not created by the media, but when we are born. SO. it's not boy's fault they're stupid. they can't help it!
LexieIsNotSexy 4 months ago

Why aren't men expected to mold themselves to the same kind of ridiculous misguided unattainable standards? No wonder why so many teen girls have eating disorders.
Jax82459 5 months ago
@Jax82459
The ones who do take a second look, well they don't exactly look like Jessica Biel material.

piglover2468 5 months ago
The only way this problem is ever going to get fixed is if women stop it themselves! We need to stop buying makeup! We need to stop thinking that all our problems can be solved with plastic surgery! We need to stop buying those rip-off weight loss diets/books. We need to realize as WOMEN that WE ARE NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL! We don't need your cosmetics or your surgery. God made our faces perfect just the way they are. If we needed make up, we would have been born with it on.
