Wow! These videos are amazing! I had no idea what shape downtown Iowa City was in. I live about 5 miles outside of Iowa City on Sand Rd, and in '93, it never went over my driveway, but this year it did. It was never a mandatory evacuation for us, but when the cops were recommending for everyone to get to higher ground, we were already moving out of our house.
The corps could have definately been letting out 18,000 from the thaw until now, we might have had water in our back yards for a long time, but nothing this horrific.
Thank you so much. I live at 720 so I think we are new neighbors. Without your effort I would not have any iea of what we are facing. News people have ignored Normandy. Hope to talk to you in the clean up. The Corps needs to get their act together. If the dam is not meant for flood control then what is its purpose? They did not change anything after 93. With the most snow in memory and a very wet early spring you would think they would have let water out sooner and faster.
Videos like these are giving more information to homeowners of the status of their places than the news, which enjoys showing us pictures of crap we don't care about like softball fields. Good job guys. People matter, not just Coralville strip offices.
Thanks for doing this guys. I live(d) in the house with the duck on the roof (1:50-2:14)on the clip. I was wondering what sort of shape our houes was in - looks like our upper level is still dry...for now.
I'm from SE Wisconsin and it's pretty bad too, but nowhere near like that. Jefferson is really swamped i heard they just shut down one of the last main bridges in town. hope you're getting lots of help and best wishes.
