During the life of Jesus Christ and the period in which texts like the Gospel of Thomas were composed, Buddhist missionaries lived in Alexandria, Egypt. Historians believe that in the 4th century, Christian monasticism developed in Egypt, and it emerged with a corresponding structure comparable to the Buddhist monasticism of its time and place.
@qaplatlhinganmaH Most of the Nag Hammatti texts are around 100 to 150 bce, Buddhism is around 5th century. I think it would be fairer to say Chrisitanity came from Plationic thinkers, Egypt and Judiasm. Buddhism came out of Hinduism mostly.
Though in my opinion, Historical truth isn't as important as what its teaching, And the work is too great and deep that historical ideals bring about no understanding of the teachings itself. I would hope thats the goal of anyone thats interested.
@qaplatlhinganmaH I'm going have to agree with IMBUED .......... Remember buddahs( jesus) last words. he said"Dont believe anything that someone tells you, weither or not I said it or someone else said it, don't believe it." .....
@zoehanson999 Gospel of Thomas, Pagels says, "Some of it looks like Buddhism, and may have in fact been influenced by a well-established Buddhist tradition at the time that these texts were first written."
@qaplatlhinganma buddah jesus krishna are the same person who incarnated here from heaven. They were not seperate incarnations.I'm going to use my common sense and assume the message is the same in all religions we see.Give up fleshly desires.Just like it says in the book of thomas the contender and every other gnostic gospel and every religion. Its all the same religion/
