The Parabolica and the other bank that cuts in near the new chicane (dunno it's name, but is still driven under, on the back straight, were closed, in '61, after someone lost it on there, and squished their car out under the guard rail, killing 14. They considered cars were getting up too much speed. So, I doubt they'd let them be part of a modern circuit (no matter how much we want it).
I think it's a shame, that they are going to ruin, would be cool to let historics race on them.
I would love to see the old banking restored and brought up to todays track safety standards so it could once more hear the howl of F1 engines (or should I say the scream of modern F1 engines). Why don't they do it? It couldn't cost that much?
If you see the movie "Grand-Prix" you'd understand why the banked curves are tricky and dangerous. I guess the angle of the banks increases up to 60 degrees on top.
There was indeed a grand-prix when two cars fell off the banks.
Haven't seen people with guts like that since Gilles Villeneuve... and even then at least he could feel safe in his car which he had survived crashes, the likes of Fangio and Moss would die as soon as they made a mistake but they were too good to do that. Definately fearless, those guys were great.
Great video!

The real story of the kidnapping of Fangio in Cuba is a real thriller.

Excellent video. Does anyone know if the old circuit is open to the public.

The banking is closed to the public. It's badly in need of restoration but there's no consensus whether it should be restored.

If you look back up the front straight today you can see a bit of the banking as it would naturally unfold onto the straight.

You can go there on foot or by bike. There's a net in the middle, but its state is quite good.

Who'd want to take on that banking?!?!
Thanks for sharing.

People like Fangio, von Tripps and Clark. Only gutsy drivers, I tell ya.
