  • Even though I don't know the language this music just makes it universal. Very beautiful.

  • Thank you sooooo much for uploading this wonderful song.

  • Thank you for sharing. You have no idea how timely this is.

  • Not only that, the day after she died, a large check arrived in her name.

  • I always thought this song was done by Alvin and the Chipmunks..

  • The convent officials must take the responsibility for her predicament and our loss. They took her cash and then left her to fight a very large system the tax office, the ministry of revenue. So much for the good Samaritan helping our neighbours and sharing. Don't forget to turn the other cheek and look the other way as her convent did. When we have friends like that who needs enemies like the tax office

  • lets not forget she was also a dyke after being a nun,,,,, what a nunner

  • @FEZZARONNI go ahead and attack some woman you never knew, just because you don't like her sexual preference. Kharma has your address and a stamp.

  • @FEZZARONNI

...how do you know this for sure....! why judge.

  • @FEZZARONNI That's why she became a nun, so she could have access to all the other hot nuns.

  • @Aspergianstar20O9

She ran a school for autist children after leaving monastery: she would have have understood your retard remark

  • oh my god i love french music!!!

  • Attacks on freebom of expression by the worlds musical artist allow the pundits and news presenters to take credit for doing something when in fact they do nothing but violate peoples privacy and personal freedoms.Take care ADonovan43

  • Her songs sound sort of like gospel songs

  • Hearing these songs again, songs of my childhood, songs of my heart, songs that have been welcome earwurms all my life - I just want to take that beloved face in my hands and kiss it all over. So heartbreaking the end this precious lady met - that ANYONE should be driven to such an end over financial difficulty - it's a craziness in our society.

  • This song kind of sounds like "The Battle Cry Of Freedom."

  • a outher kill frome the great belevers of jezus

  • From an editorial review of "The Singing Nun's Story"

As Soeur Sourire (Sister Smile) Jeannine Deckers harbored doubts about her religious career, believing the monastic life to be outdated and left the order in July 1966 . . . plagued by drug and alcohol addictions, depression and sexual confusion, Deckers begins a downward spiral that will end with her suicide on March 29, 1985 along with her friend of twenty-five years, Annie Pécher.

  • so sad to hear,oh my god.

  • really? it is really sad ...

  • Her Murder by the Belgian Government.Did any people stand trial?

  • @ignas62 They got away with it. What did you think ? such a loss, such a great artist.. sob. Always in our Hearts Dominique nique nique

  • Jeanine had a simple and trusting heart which relied absolutely on the God she had been brought up with.

She died alone, rejected, and betrayed by everyone except her lover.

She is a lesson to all of us.

  • The TRULY sad part is the record company had a $300,000 residual check for her!! They delivered the check - they day AFTER her suicide!!

The govmnt hounded her becasue she filled her taxes WRONG - so they did not know the money was donated to charity. They though she received the money and donated it - making her responsable for the taxes. But she never received it!!! After leaving the convent - they convent turned on her and said she DID receive it!!! THIS caused all of the problems!!!!

  • et chante les prés

  • Nice song but it ressembles quite to "Dominique"?

  • Tous les chemins de la vie (All the roads of life)

Te demandent d'espérer (Ask you to hope for)

Le Seigneur qui te convie (The Lord who invites you)

Au banquet d'éternité (To the banquet of eternity)

    Et chantent les prés etc.

  • Tous les chemins de la plaine (All the roads of the plain)

S'en vont inlassablement (Go on tirelessly)

Vers l'horizon éclatant (Towards the dazzling horizon)

    Et chantent les prés etc.

  • Tous les chemins de la Terre (All the roads of the Earth)

Sont parsemés d'amitié (Are strewn with friendship)

Et le regard de ton frère (And the look of your brother)

Attend de te rencontrer (Waits to meet you)

    Et chantent les prés etc.

  • Et chantent les prés (And the meadows sing)

Et chantent les fleurs (And the flowers sing)

La joie est dans mon cœur (Joy is in my heart)

Et chantent les prés (And the meadows sing)

Et chantent les fleurs (And the flowers sing)

Moi j'ai ma joie dans le Seigneur (Me I have my joy in the Lord)

  • Tous les chemins de ce monde (All the roads of this world)

Te conduisent vers le ciel (Lead you toward heaven)

Et le vent qui vagabonde (And the wind which vagabonds)

T'emmène vers le soleil (Takes you towards the sun.)

  • la joie est dans mon coeur .. This is a truly beautiful song. It would be quite a long thing for me to translate but essentially it is your joy being in your heart , your happiness is in the lord. All lives paths lead you to the sky and the wind blows you towards sunny days ... all lives paths ask that you hope in the lord who is calling you to the seat of eternity. Poor translation however i think you ll have the idea of someone who appreciates all she sees.

  • I wish some one would provide the words in English.

  • no idea what they're saying but it's brilliant

  • A beautiful song

  • wery good saku is nunna

  • Where's Ringo?

It's a wonderful song. About God with a harmonize formidable. The film about the live of Soeur Sourire is also good.

  • In case if my french sucks I said Aleluyah a song wich speaks about Jesus and no mater if there is in english, spanish or french evry language give the woreship to the Lord, God bless you all.

I believe that's what you wanted to say....good try tho...not bad

  • oui/yes/si/ja Exactament God bless you

  • tres bon

  • What a terrific folk voice.

  • the belgian goverment gav

  • wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much

  • magnifico!!!!!

  • She committed suicide because the Begium government tormented her for$65000.00 of back taxes that they claimed she owed. She claimed to have donated all the money she made with the song to the convent she lived at, although she did eventually leave the order. Phillips records made millions with her song, as did the order,. She died of a barbituate OD.

  • For our friends englishspeakers,

"habit "is a french word which just means clothe.

The word comes from: habiller= to dress. ( with certainly latin or greek origins).

Don't forget that about 30% of english words come from norman french ( because of William the Conqueror's invasion). I hope I did help you.

  • Its beautiful - the funny sounding language is probably a lost persian tongue. ;-)

  • cheeesyyyy

  • This woman had a very Rare talent. R I P...

  • This record. And the way the catholic church treated her, would make anybody kick the habit.

  • may god have mercy to hear!

  • this comment is for the people who does not know or should i say very ignorant to the lives of the nuns and what nuns are...don't say profane things about them when you eggheads don't know what your saying.your acting as if you know it all, when in fact your acting stupid.and why bother to comment on this if you don't like the video, take note this video is not MADE FOR YOU EGGHEADS,but made to the ones who knows and appreciates them..

  • It is a shame when people refuse to know and worship their Creator. To deny actually communicating with Him, is to completely miss the joy and the point of this music of His adoration, and to deny is to miss the Glorious Future He has for all who would receive Him. This nun knew God. Her music to Him is nothing short of beautiful

  • Does anybody know why a nuns dress is called a 'Habit'?

  • The word Habit is just another way of saying garment or tunic.

  • But what is the origin of the term?

  • It's Ancient Greek. The word used to describe what they used to wear back then.

  • It's called a habit, bacause it's worn daily, it does not come from Greek, it's a habit, because it's worn daily, and it's habitual...it has nothing to do with a tunic...nuns never wore tunics.

  • both explanations sound plausible.

  • Does anybody know why a nuns dress is called a 'Habit'?

  • wow...

les larmes me sont montées aux yeux!

    Sacré flots de souvenirs.

Ça me fait beaucoup pensé à ma mère.

  • I hope those who persecuted her do not claim to be christian, no signs of it from their actions. Shame on all those involved.

  • She was a nun in a convent near Waterloo, in Belgium. All the money she made from her records was given to her convent, she couldnt have kept it as she was a nun vowed to poverty. After she gave up being a nun ,although shed seen none of the money , the Belgian govt hounded her to pay tax on the money shed given to her convent. In despair she overdosed on drugs and killed herself. A sad end. I wish I spoke enough French to understand her songs better

  • What a gross injustice! Why do bureaucrats have to be so unreasonable with citizens?

  • Because they are thieves. They do not care who they kill.

  • Good point. I wonder of the world is about to see a lot more of that now that the economy is collapsing. Since money has been tight, I have seen them go after many people who had a very short-term influx of cash but lost it before they could enjoy it. Now they owe tax on it all.

  • I loved her songs as a child and memorized all of them even though French was not a language I did not know at the time. Soeur Sourire opened a school for autistic children before she committed suicide over the tax problems of the royalties of her song.

  • @raherecolston Sometimes, life can be so damn unfair!! :(

  • Sweet sweet sweet:) Lance in beautiful Bremerton, Washington

  • Her story is so sad

  • lmfao

  • shes fit.

  • LOL!!!

  • Bons souvenirs d'enfance. Aussi tres bonne facon d'evangeliser. Merci

  • beautiful

  • dominique!!

    love ya sis!

  • I think this vid and the accompanying music was one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen and heard. She's making music in heaven now, something we can look forward to when it's our time to go. God Bless Her.

  • That is totally crass, not to mention disrespectful.

Perhaps, you need to develop some taste.

  • I meant gregjockca's comment not the Singing nun, Jeanine Decker.

  • This was one cool lady. She left the Catholic church in the mid 60's. She backed John Lennon w/ his "more popular than Jesus" statement (which was factual). She advocated birth control and recorded a song "Glory Be to God for the Golden Pill". She probably did this song for money for her school for autistic childer. She committed suicide w/ her female partner in the mid80's in financial distress of the schools funding. RIP Jeanine.

  • De très beaux souvenirs pour moi.

  • This was one of my moms fav. songs when she was a little girl. She has always loved nuns, especially nuns with guitars!

  • This is cool, but english subtitles would be o.k.,no?

  • what a beautiful song!

  • Does anybody knows where can i find something about the musical group called "Les djinns", at the Internet? I have not found anything yet

  • use the search bar, type les djinns...press enter...

  • Thx, off course i did it, but i didn't found any :(

  • Unique uplifting song. She left the convent too late.

Could have made a fortune with a talent and voice like that.

  • wow. finding this, just made my day. holy cow, what a beautiful singer, what a beautiful song. this boy is happy now.

  • Hhere is the video for the Flying Nun?

  • la la la la la...la la la la...la la la...

  • a beautiful song indeed from soeur sourire. she was such a lovely nun and will still be remembered as the singing nun

  • I think she was WONDERFUL and is a shame that she left us so early in her life.. may God bless her and her partner Annie

  • Leave her alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sounds like she was having a fulfilling life contributing to the good of others (running a school for autistic children)...UNTIL the Belgian gov't decided to hound her past the point of suicide, over back taxes. Yet she'd been giving her money away to her (tax exempt)Dominican convent. Too bad her accounting records weren't scrupulous enough for the Tax Nazis persecuting her.

  • I could've sworn you made this same statement months ago. Why do you keep making it? If this woman offended you so much, why are you even looking at this video or commenting?

  • I never thought I could listen to Soeur Sourire again

  • This recalls so much the atmosphere of being in a nun-run Belgian primary school in the 70's. The song sparkles by its simplicity and joy. Thanks for posting.

  • one thing i know about nuns is that they can kick your ass.

  • and they do well!

  • No shit!!!

  • Great song but those birth-control glasses! Ugh!

  • This song is hot. I don't what you all are talking about...lol.

  • If becoming a dyke and ODing on drugs and alcohol are you definition of "tuned in" and "hip", well Id say you were better off in the convent. LOL!

  • its good to see that nuns aren't all square! I blame someo nuns like Sister Constance for sending out the impression that we're all uncool. But we're not. Some of us are tune din and hip like these swinging women. Well done sisters! You rock!

  • this is so sweet ,such a sad ending to her life thank u for posting this is going in my faves

  • love this song her voice is so bright and sweet

  • Please create some more videos with Soeur Sourire. You have done a great job. Thanks so much.

  • D'abord l'habit, la joie, puis la petite croix, puis la fuite, puis la mort. Triste époque que la nôtre.

  • What a odd life for the singing nun, Becomes a nun finds out she's in love with another nun they run away together then commit suicide, Good grief,

  • Read about her life and how she suffered and then you will appreciate what she gave of herself. Can't you hear simplicity and love in her songs?
