Ben Stiller wrote that gay/fashion designer character specifically for Andy, but Andy was doing some lame tv thing, (I heard this on a podcast recently) and it's obvious that Andy really regrest not quitting and doing the movie as Ben had suggested. I thought about this clip for awhile, after viewing it the 1st time, and came to some realizations about his seemingly "odd" behavior:

A: Even though he makes cracks about it, he's really not trying to be exploited because of his sexuality.

B: He doesn't want "his character" to be "stolen" like it was in the Zoolander-movie. This makes sense, because if you watch Will Ferrell's version of the character, you can practically smell Andy Dick coming off of him. Right down to the goofy haircut.
