@NowKillTheKing He's wittering about that most animals try not to kill other members of their species even though they are competing for food, territory, dominance and mates.

@tiaxanderson He didn't say anything remotely like that. If he did, he'd still be wrong; ironically possibly the only animal that "tries" not to kill members of its own species, is man.

Intraspecies killing is not remotely rare; the list is enormous, for all the reasons you cite. I'm having trouble coming up with too many which are capable of killing each other but never do. Every time I think I've found one, I do some research and find documented cases of intraspecies killing.

@NowKillTheKing I couldn't find much specific about intra-species killing for other animals (except that most sources claim there are very little deaths for non-human animals), but I have some interesting facts for humans.

The Mexican government said that in 2006 to 2009, roughly 6000 people were killed per year, due to the war on organized crime.

Hippos, the animal killing the most humans per year, kill 2900.
