das ist einer dieser Filme die man auf Englisch gesehen haben muss. Ich hatte noch die deutsche Untertitel an und ich fand den Film wirklich wirklich gut gemacht. This was a scary movie... for about the first half of it. First time watching this I was honestly on the edge of my seat. But as soon as they even brought up the whole. "Virus in words" Thing, it just stopped being scary and turned into something rather silly. Its OK, but not great.
Quite possibly the most intelligent zombie film ever made. Anyone with any kind of knowledge on movies can tell that this one didn't have the highest in production value, but once the story pulls you in all of that is instantly forgivable. The great thing about this film is the mystery behind all of the questions left unanswered. An all-around smart and thought-provoking indie thriller/horror. Highly recommended to those who wish for a little more depth in their "scary" movies.

My initial take on that scene was that it was just sort of an inside joke between the cast and crew that the director just threw in there for the hell of it.
But Wikipedia says that it might have been suggesting that they either made it out of Pontypool alive or "in spirit."

Couple of interesting tidbits (I think)... according to the screen writer (and author of the book), the movie is strongly desired to be a trilogy. No, not much gore, this first was supposed to capture the feeling of insanity from the book (which is straight insane). The second would be capturing the majority of the mayhem about town while the events of the first happen. So... if you like this, tell everybody. See if we can't see what he does with the "gory, in town" version!

This is NOT your regular zombie flick though. Just as a warning to ppl who may be considering watching it there's like 15 minutes of actual zombie footage throughout the entire film. And it's not all that gory either.
Excellent movie, but the trailer doesn't do it much justice--makes it look like every other horror movie that's come out in the past several years. Pontypool doesn't have any of the cheap shock effects that have come to dominate (and ruin) mainstream horror. It's actually *scary*, not just frenetic and loud.
why did the doctor know soo much about it and why did he seem infected after wards but then ran away through that silly flap hole he came in . was he infected or not?? cause he started to act it by repeating the word "breath" and then talking jibberish which is what infected people did . doesnt makeeeee sense!!! . and this could of been an ok movie but writers and directors didnt know what they were doing
@GoldXrose It was quite obvious... the doctor knew so much because he was related to the infection, the first attack was at his work so probably he is responsable somehow, and he started to get infected, but because he was latino he discovered that only english was infected and that gibberish you say it was actually spanish or portuguese, the silly flap hole thing was he sacrifacing himself to help the other two survivors, because he felt guilty about being part of the making of the infection

And yeah, you dont have to like it, but you cant say its crap or bad, you could say "i dont like if, its boring to me and i dont get it" but you cant say its bad when it has good actors, good sound, good story, good quality and has great reviews, also theres only 1 dislike in here... so yeah.
He knew so much presumably because people were visiting his office in a confused state. The little bit about prescription fraud was a red herring to keep the movie teetering on a normal/weird tightrope. Because he had so many similar patients, he was then able to tell the people who hadn't seen it (radio workers) more about it.

this is a daft movie they had a ok idea but the way they did it and the movie it self became boring it had a slow confusing build up , it wasnt very good . the idea of being in a radio station for the whole time was interesting in a way . im left confused about the doctor and the foreign over voice that went through to them . and when they themselves spoke french most of the time there was no subtitles so we had to guess wot they were saying they only did like subs for 2 words
this movie made me feel i was high....like i was smoking weed or something..the plot is original, fresh, new, funny and utterly and completely stupid! mediocre direction, mediocre acting, the lack of budget is unavoidably obvious and restricts the potential of the movie greatly...there are so many independent, low budget and GOOD horror movies out there that it is a shame that just 'an idea of a movie' earns such hype...
Script, cast & acting were superb! Feels very real! Highest level of suspense since "Blair Witch Project", hadn't been more sucked into a story since "Butterfly Effect"!

@vivalaresistanc : I know but feel differently. I watched it and was somewhat glad that that it wasn't zombies, but you have to admit it a great phycological horror film. This is most diffentlly not a zomby movie. You have to be really into phycological horror to like it.
True horror does not need to be splattered in blood and guts, if that's what you want there are thousands of cheap thrill films out there. the magic in Pontypool is how it makes you feel claustrophobic and helpless as unspeakable, unexplainable and unimaginable horrors happen around you. If you really want to enjoy Pontypool, watch it on your laptop locked in your closet with the lights out and the AC on in full blast. then you'll get it.

Looks a lot like the premise from the novel Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, which itself was a lot like Neuromancer, but funny and more modern-ish. The big difference was that was more cyber-punk and this is more zombie. Meh.
@zzdre well kinda. but it says thatyou have to understand the word to be infected so people try to say it alot out of instinct (cause when you say a word alot you start to realize that it starts to just become a word, no meaning) so the people in the movie try to give words no meaning, simply just not making sense and swithing words meanings.
One of my favorite movies. Glad people can still come up with totally unique stories.

@vivalaresistanc : I know but feel differently. I watched it and was somewhat glad that that it wasn't zombies, but you have to admit it a great phycological horror film. This is most diffentlly not a zomby movie. You have to be really into phycological horror to like it.

True horror does not need to be splattered in blood and guts, if that's what you want there are thousands of cheap thrill films out there. the magic in Pontypool is how it makes you feel claustrophobic and helpless as unspeakable, unexplainable and unimaginable horrors happen around you. If you really want to enjoy Pontypool, watch it on your laptop locked in your closet with the lights out and the AC on in full blast. then you'll get it.

The great unknown of the whole movie, taking place in just one place, and the only action that you really see it in you mind, when you imagination turns the torifiing audio into mental pictures. Looks a lot like the premise from the novel Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, which itself was a lot like Neuromancer, but funny and more modern-ish. The big difference was that was more cyber-punk and this is more zombie. Meh.

@zzdre well kinda. but it says thatyou have to understand the word to be infected so people try to say it alot out of instinct (cause when you say a word alot you start to realize that it starts to just become a word, no meaning) so the people in the movie try to give words no meaning, simply just not making sense and swithing words meanings.
