There is no point what so ever in arguing about Iraq. Whether our nations motives for invading the country were lawful or not is irrelevant. The fact is, we are there now, we have made the mess, and its our job to clean it up!!!
my prediction: the united states will wage war regardless of who is wielding the instruments of coercion. the insatiable appetite for conflict has manifested itself continuously over the last few decades. we will not stop shooting people and blowing things up until posterity disallows it. it will. going around the world shooting people and blowing things up is not cheap. it will prove unaffordable eventually.
Obama's sound judgment on this matter is living proof that "experience" doesnt mean shit. When people talk about Obama's so claled lack of experience, what they are reallylambasting him for his is lack of Washington Longevity. BUt i find it odd that those with washington longevity would buy the rationale for war so qucikly while a state senator in illionois had the intellect to oppose it. What about intellect? To me intellect and critical thinking is more important than "experience".
america is full of cowards now. im one of them other wise i would be in iraq right now. most of us agree that civil war was worth it to free african americans. right now were trying to free a different people that is costing us a lot less price than civil war and just about every one is against it.
Who are we freeing and from what? Saddam is gone and dead. Mission accomplished. Now to get the terriorists laughing at us in the deterioating situation in Afganistain.
Al Gore just spoke at Radio City Music Hall and said anyone who voted for that war was money-motivated and NUTHIN' else. Gore said on 9/11 the buzz in Washington was, "How can we spin this to get us into Iraq?!"
The crooked politicians (like Clinton) were dying to get in there just to make a buck. She doesn't care about Americans or anyone else.
He did ask how do we stableize Iraq? Well if he wanted to stableize it, he wouldn't leave. Why would you oppose a war were we blow up terrorists and in addition to that, Bush liberated 40,000,000 Iraqis. God Bless Bush.
It is NOT time to remove troops. Do not let the troops who have died for our county die in vain. Let us not let our troops be killed after we have made so much progress in Iraq. Why not finish it out. We alredy spent a ton of money. Thank on it. ^_^
"All war is wrong". I can't agree more with you.All politicans and governments must stop using any decent reseaon to start any war or activity AGAIN! We need peace and joyfulness!
Dear BO you were right on the war in Iraq but I hope that you will take the next logical step: ALL war is wrong... there are many better ways of resolving conflict - just takes more balls to do it the peaceful way LovEandpEacenOMorewaR from the UK
Bittergate-so coined because of his now infamous Bitter speech in the Golden Gate Cty of San Francisco.Obama messed up on his geography it's not the Midwest or Pennsylvania area that's bitter its the Frisco area-Pelosi,Mass-area Kennedy, Chicago area-rev Wright-Michelle Obama-MEAN AMERICA,that are bitter.Harvard educated should know his constituents bitter.Karma- because it was however the Huffington Post blg that OUTED him.It reminds me of the movie " A Face in a Crowd",with Andy Griffith
The victory of Obama could make the difference on the international scene and have a major impact.
He could bring historical and expected changes to the american society considering the history of the country and the disaster caused by Bush and his administration.
Barrack Obama has a vision, sensibility and judgement that proven to be true. He said that 6 years ago, when it was still 'not done' to be against the war since one could be seen as 'unpatriotic' by saying so. That makes him also a brave and true patriot. I am not a US citizen otherwise Obama would have my vote.
and i do think that going into iraq was a bad idea but now that we are there we can't just leave unless we finish the job.
i understand that we all want our soldiers home, but if we leave to quickly, it could become chaotic. i know it's already a war zone, but it's been worse.
we just can't go in there and leave the country in an unstable position, or else the iraqis will get slaughtered.
i am 14 years old and believe it or not but i can have an opinion
You guys really need to make that clip into a commercial, where Barack predicts the splintering of Iraq. Jesus. If everyone only knew HOW RIGHT HE WAS FROM THE START
I wonder why that is, the main stream media has mentioned Obama a billion times and ron paul has been blacked out almost completely. canidates like ron paul who are not bought and paid for by corporate lobbyists don't get air time by the corporate owned and controlled media, it's pretty sad that this has to be explained to you
Dear kunfuhola, this is not the whole speech he gave before the war started. He gave a very large one and pleaded with congress to stop the president from invading. Except for that clip the rest of it has been lost, however on youtube you can find other people reenacting it.
What does five minutes have to do with anything? Both Ron Paul and Obama made the point that they were against it. I am sure there are many times when Obama spoke for longer than 5 minutes on the subject. No offense... but that is an extremely petty argument you are trying to make.
Ridiculous...you can not have a "War" without a congressional declaration of war. Why are more active duty troops on the ground in Iraq supporting Ron Paul than any other canadite? Think about it people....the military is designed to kill things...it does not perform police actions.
it would be very bad for america to have a black president because its a white country and he will give the blacks everything and let more of his immigrant friends in the country better being led by a woman than a black
I think your comment was extremely un-call for and racist. Your NOT ever from the United States so why in the hell do you have an opinion on who's running it???!!! "it's a white country" Ha! I can't begin to tell you how many races and cultures merge in the USA and I'm not going to- I rather you stay ignorant..
Obama does deserve respect for voting against Iraq. Regardless, sadam housein is the only person responsible for the iraq war by refusing to let in inspectors (for years). He could have avoided all this and been in power today and not dead. Sadam is the reason we're in Iraq, nothing else. It's ok to give obama credit for being right. But don't bash other people for being wrong, when in 2003 NOBODY except Sadam knew for sure.
I hope he becomes president. He will represent what USA is all about. Land of the free, where all men are equal before the constitution, regardless of race, ethnicity, color, etc etc.
And he sounds intelligent, well-spoken, someone who knows what he's talking about, unlike our current president.
Yeah, people should definitely be tested to be eligible to vote for a given right of being a US citizen! Everyone, no matter how smart they are, has an opinion!
Yeah the Clinton's are just about playing the game. Hillary said after crying in NH, "You all have helped me find my voice" and then all of sudden Bill is out there with her slinging all kinds of divisive inacurate mud at Barrack Obama. It's bad for the country. I want unity, not hate and more partisan politics that can never get anything done because they look at it like it's some kind of game or boxing match. Americans are not your enemy!!!!
Dishonesty is acceptable to her if it wins her the election. The end justifies the means. This is an understandable point of view, but one I would prefer to be eschewed by my country's leader.
That took guts at that time. He is a great man. He will be the next President. He gives us hope as Clinton gives us fear and division. We need someone new. Who wants a Clinton or Bush again? I'm done with Clinton and Bush.
Right on. I want a president who brings us together and gets rid of partisan politics so that our government actually accomplishes things, not creates more hate and discontent. That is what Clinton and W Bush have done.
I want a president who can inspire us to do great great things. Much like Ronald Reagan or John F Kennedy did.
He said "I will pick up an arm myself to prevent 9/11 again" Which obviously means he is not going to pull any troops out. He also said "This is a dumb war". That i believe is true. Any war to fight for materialistic things and such things as oil is a very dumb war.
what's wrong with raising taxes if he's going to put that money into investments in clean energy and fixing the immigration system? id be much more willing to pay higher taxes for those things than less taxes for nukes, stealth bombers, tanks, and automatic assault rifles.
Wow, they actually allow people pushing another candidate to post comments? That is more than I can say for Hillary's youtube account. Obama has my vote, anyway.
He doesn't say when he'll bring the troops home. He said he has a plan to bring them home by March '08, but he can't get elected until November '08. What will he do? Will he bring them home right away? No. He just wants to invade Pakistan. Send them from Iraq, over Iran and into Pakistan.
He is not an anti-war candidate. The only candidate who has pledged to end all illegal wars is Ron Paul.
I would not say that a pullout from Iraq is the best plan. If we do that, we will turn Iraq into a target for surrounding countries. The middle east is very unstable, it always has been, do we want to add to that instability by creating a vacuum in Iraq? Obviously not, or millions more people will die.
he proposed a bill to the senate back in march '07 to begin pulling out starting may '07 and be out entirely by may '08. i believe thats what he was talking about. and obama doesn't seem the type to go to war w/o congress or the UN's approval, which i suppose is what you mean by illegal war. perhaps he just assumes people already know he's against illegal war, and thats y he hasn't said so explicitly.
You don't have any idea what you are talking about. Obama said many times he would remove 1-2 brigades a months out of Iraq once he is president. he can't do it now because he doesn't control the military and he is part of a governing body with 99 other people. Removing 1-2 brigades a months means combat troops will be out of Iraq in Spring of 2010 given the caveat he brought up himself that GWB will keep troop levels at around 100,000. Very realistic plan.
Not really! My parents and I new the war in Iraq was unacceptible. Still, Obama needs to form a plan. Thoug it's probbly th same as Hillary', but ith a lot more diplomacy.
well i don't that much about politics. The only thing i understand is what he is saying. All the other people thqt give speeches idk what they are trying to say.
dude, people. Kucinich has a plan to get out. its not "i have a plan". He HAS a plan. it's called HR 1234 (excuse my spelling, lol).
Dennis Kucinich was ALSO against the war FROM THE START. he didnt just SAY it, he led the opposition AGAINST it. He help debunk the evidence Bush used, instead of just making judgement calls.
Oh yea, and hes NOT FUNDING the war, unlike someone here. Wonder why he has so little press time and less money than Barack? =)
poltricks all these system hoes work for the captialist, the real true target world dominance, I just can't believe Americans are so blind death and dumb
Well if you in fact would pick up a weapon yourself to prevent 9-11,then pick up a weapon and go to Iraq or Afghanistan and start helping to prevent the next 9-11.
That's a load of bull-shit! America needs to be in war w/ Iraq because if we are not in a war, then that gives the terrorists time to build up their forces, and attack us again. Obama doesnt know what he's talking about, and neither do all of the Democrats. Our troops might not be getting anywhere and may be dying, but those deaths wont add up to all of the deaths that could and will happen if we pull out our troops. The Democrats need to get their heads out of their asses.
The war on terror is double think - War = Terror & Terror = War by fighting one with the other you simply create more of both. We have been mislead all the way through this war, does anybody have the guts to make people accountable for lies that have killed 100s thousands. How about you Obama?
How much does Barack say about what exactly he is going to do with Iraq? "America, it is time to start bringing our troops home" - this is way too vague and emotion-appealing.
I think he looks like and speaks like an intelegent man so that your best guess america. we in the rest of the world hope you dont make a presidential mistake for a third time in a row. Cheers , toto from new zeland.
Danger people! Proof Obama @ 0:23 of this vid, Obama says "it (the war) 'may' still be a mistake." he's not definite. A man against the war will say "It 'IS' a mistake." Not it 'may' be a mistake. "How do we stabalize." is code for more war/occupation. Obama/Clinton NEVER say they will 'end' the war, just bring (some) troops home. CFR talk, NWO... danger people! Do research.
didn't he say he was going to make pot legal no wait that was just the libertarians also they want to stop the war in one shot immediate pull out but Obama wants to keep the war going for another 15 years he just said he wanted to ship more troops to iraq and a few months ago he said he would pull them out if he got to be pres.
He's a fucking liar and I cant vote for a outright liar....
how the hell does he expect to bring our troops home march of 2008 when he won't even be potentially be elected in Nov. of 2008. Someone please explain his plan if they know.
This guy is so much more real than any other candidate on the ballot. Compare this guy to Bush. He can be president. He's good. I'm inspired. He's got the black vote, the democratic vote, the pro-afghanistan anti-iraq vote, he's got his shit down, he's smart, he's just good. He's got my vote. He'll be a revolutionary president.
not competent to govern? compared to who...Bush? he is a Senator so he probably has some political savvy...why would anyone want a candidate who was competent in the CURRENT political arena? not I...Obama seems to promote a reform of politics to make it more constructive...we are at a point that even the most radical political change in the election would be better than our current situation
"I cannot see him being competent to govern.."..who are you comparing him to? our current president? he is also a senator, btw. The point is that many don't want someone who is competent in the CURRENT system, much less someone who will support it...a lot of people would like to see politics reformed in a way that is constructive ...seems to be one of Obama's major themes. We are honestly at a point where even the most radical change in our politics couldnt be worse than what we have atm
I think he is competent enough to govern the U.S. However it will be hard for any candidate to fix the damage that bush... the incompetent liar... caused these last eight years.
Watch his speech at the 2004 Democratic National convention. Watch any of his speeches that he has given on the campaign trail for 2008. He has a weakness in debates because he has to take his well-stated arguments and chop them down into 30 second bits which he is not good at. That doesnt mean that his answers are artificial or floudnering. He is a very charismatic person and I think if you opened your mind and watched some of his speeches you might see differently.
To Robv6061, first of all, the UN-AU force now has a mandate in Darfur, so the US would be serving under the UN, rather than coalition forces. But once again, I think deathcamp2 is wrong to imply that anyone who opposed the Iraq war is a communism: I myself am a traditional conservative on moral issues, yet take a holistic view to how to solve other issues, but in a way that respects my Christian Faith.
just wanted to let you know there is a singer songwriter in new york named Dan Zweben whose song Obama used in his CNN/YouTube that is putting his music behind a man who has a chance to really make some change in this country....The song in the spot "Join Us" is called Oregon and is written and performed by Dan Zweben find his music if you can.....peace, go obama:)
Afghan government(taliban) are the ones who gave bin laden a safe haven in afghanistan. After 9/11, they were asked to hand over bin laden. but they refused saying they need evidence. They refused talks claiming it'd be an insult to islam. So bush went in by force which was the right thing to do. the talban government also new of the 9/11 attacks, bin laden wasent jsut a citizen there. even if these guyz were saudis, thier government wasent involved in the attacks.
This guy wants to pull out of Iraq..Then invade an African village in the Sudan (a terrorist stonghold) after the humilliation of defeat in Iraq...WAKE UP HE IS ALL SHOW AND NO GO
damn wtf happen? march of 2008? yeah right...... he lied ppl he lied.... and thats all they ever do. i believed him too i even voted 4 obama... now i've awaken... ron paul 4 president... he's the only hope. he wants to close the federal reserve, legalize drugs, and bring every single troop home and close down all the bases around the world... he's amazing... fuck u obama. treason. u deserve to go to prison wit bush and cheney

DJ80s 4 years ago 4
Dishonesty is acceptable to her if it wins her the election. The end justifies the means. This is an understandable point of view, but one I would prefer to be eschewed by my country's leader.
asimplecapsule 4 years ago 20
That took guts at that time. He is a great man. He will be the next President. He gives us hope as Clinton gives us fear and division. We need someone new. Who wants a Clinton or Bush again? I'm done with Clinton and Bush.
rollingRDC 4 years ago 75

Any war to fight for materialistic things and such things as oil is a very dumb war.
btw I am only 14.

Barack Obama's vision for America is the thing that this country needs to move beyond the Bush-Clinton-Bush era.
I support Obama and his message of hope and change in America.
I've posted a Christmas carol video on my profile to wish the Obama campaign and all his supporters a very Merry Christmas!

what's wrong with raising taxes if he's going to put that money into investments in clean energy and fixing the immigration system? id be much more willing to pay higher taxes for those things than less taxes for nukes, stealth bombers, tanks, and automatic assault rifles.

alexoc949 4 years ago
He doesn't say when he'll bring the troops home. He said he has a plan to bring them home by March '08, but he can't get elected until November '08. What will he do? Will he bring them home right away? No. He just wants to invade Pakistan. Send them from Iraq, over Iran and into Pakistan.
He is not an anti-war candidate. The only candidate who has pledged to end all illegal wars is Ron Paul.
m4nt15 4 years ago
Ron Paul has no chance of winning. Obama is the best candidate to deescalate the war and eventually pull out.
Also, lets not forget that Osama Bin Laden is most likely in Pakistan.
rawdawg15 4 years ago
I like some things Ron Paul says, but let's be realistic. Paul doesn't have a prayer in this race, and you know that.
markymark1791 4 years ago
I would not say that a pullout from Iraq is the best plan. If we do that, we will turn Iraq into a target for surrounding countries. The middle east is very unstable, it always has been, do we want to add to that instability by creating a vacuum in Iraq? Obviously not, or millions more people will die.
Csfract 4 years ago 2
these are just short exerpts from his speeches, so it's not fair to presume that he doesn't have a plan
danielw1245 4 years ago
When did Obama say he will invade Pakistan?
fantaman13 4 years ago
he proposed a bill to the senate back in march '07 to begin pulling out starting may '07 and be out entirely by may '08. i believe thats what he was talking about. and obama doesn't seem the type to go to war w/o congress or the UN's approval, which i suppose is what you mean by illegal war. perhaps he just assumes people already know he's against illegal war, and thats y he hasn't said so explicitly.
bxsephjo 4 years ago
You are wrong. He has repeatedly voiced a detailed and resolute withdrawal of all residual forces in Iraq. Next.
Typh0n06 4 years ago 2
I gave u a thumbs up to defend ur downs. but when I saw the name Ron Paul I regret my thumbs up for u
BeAnBeAn22 4 years ago 2
You don't have any idea what you are talking about. Obama said many times he would remove 1-2 brigades a months out of Iraq once he is president. he can't do it now because he doesn't control the military and he is part of a governing body with 99 other people. Removing 1-2 brigades a months means combat troops will be out of Iraq in Spring of 2010 given the caveat he brought up himself that GWB will keep troop levels at around 100,000. Very realistic plan.

dude, people.

Do research.

not competent to govern? compared to who...Bush? he is a Senator so he probably has some political savvy...why would anyone want a candidate who was competent in the CURRENT political arena? not I...Obama seems to promote a reform of politics to make it more constructive...we are at a point that even the most radical political change in the election would be better than our current situation
you7776655 4 years ago
"I cannot see him being competent to govern.."..who are you comparing him to? our current president? he is also a senator, btw. The point is that many don't want someone who is competent in the CURRENT system, much less someone who will support it...a lot of people would like to see politics reformed in a way that is constructive ...seems to be one of Obama's major themes. We are honestly at a point where even the most radical change in our politics couldnt be worse than what we have atm

I think he is competent enough to govern the U.S. However it will be hard for any candidate to fix the damage that bush... the incompetent liar... caused these last eight years.
gizthegizzygizmo 4 years ago
