im sucking water out of my basement right now...sump pump failed yet again and we dont have a backup. im using a wetvac but i cant suck the water out faster than it's comming in so whiskey and a smoke.
I see the problem, but it is NOT the "relief" hole. The hole is required when using check valves. It prevents the piping from becoming air-locked. The problem in this video is the same problem MOST people have... a really crappy backup pump system. If you are only spending $500 or less to protect your basement, you can't expect much. However, if you are serious about having a system that will ACTUALLY PREVENT FLOODING, then you need to spend a little more. Check out peakflowpumps.
I would also have to agree. It should be a 1/8 inch hole. No bigger, No smaller. It is to prevent an airlock. The main problem is the system that is in the pit.
those backup pumps require a SMALL bleeder hole in the base of the discharge pipe to prevent an air lock. looks like somebody drilled it way too large.
My basement flooded last year so we had a sump pump put in. It is still working but now water is flooding my basement again.
Does this mean my sump pump well needs to be dug deeper?
