  • The Best era ever,Pitney came over to where it was hip and happening, great M8s with Mick and Keith, the stones where never afraid to try outside help,Gene along with Phil Spector (played Maracas)along with Graham Nash and Tony Hicks featured on The Rolling Stones recording of Not Fade Away in 1964,wow some session.

  • I agree top performer, saw him in Gloucester uk,i done his spotlights for him,he only like majenta a shade of red,and came to thank me afterwards fantastic

    Mike

  • I went to see Gene many times over the 40 years that he came over to England. He never gave one bad performance. We had our tickets in 2006 to see him at the "Phil" in Liverpool and I was devastated when he passed away a few days before he was due to appear. There is not a day I do not play his songs. Will always miss him.

  • This is still a Stunner of a song.. One oh his best..

  • Oh this is so great!!!

What a voice, and wonderful lyrics.

    Rest in Peace Gene.

    You won't every be forgotten.

  • Written by Jagger/Richard(s) Ξ♫

  • fue uno de los mejores cantantes de la decada de los sesenta

  • yet another example of the excellent music we had back in the 60's, I have brought my kids up on it, I hope other parents do the same. brilliant!!!!!

  • he was a brilliant singer and the songs he done were fantastic rip gene pitney

  • Amen to that. Fabulous singer. Saw him live kin 1964 -brilliant. This song was written by the Rolling Stones Jagger and Richard and he was very friend;y with them.

  • This guy is one of the best tenors of all time. He has been compared to Enrico Caruso. He did a cover of "Cara Mia" by Jay & The Americans, he didn't even have to go to falsetto...his voice was that powerful.

I love this song...I think it was his best!! Love the sax and violins!!! Can picture Gene with a bad boy leather jacket singing this....

  • Poor B$#!tards of today, all . they have is no talent rap shit you have to pity the fools

  • Listen to that sax throughout the song...pretty sure Phil Spector produced it. One of Gene's best, by far....I love this!!

  • This is not the original mix of his 1964 hit which includes overdubbed harmony parts and just gelds the track of its

  • muy bien pitney

  • This is not the original hit mix. The overdubs of his voice is missing and completely ruin the song.

  • One of the great voices in the world, i still carn't believe he's gone

  • Brilliant. Just reading Keith Richards' autobiography - Life - and he mentioned Mick and he writing this song that Gene then recorded. Thanks for the memories.

  • my mother loved him and i loved my mother, enough said lol xx

  • mick y keith

  • great song great singer wat can one say

  • Did the Rolling Stones ever record their own version? I would be interested in hearing their interpretation.

  • @mybabba yes i have it i bought a pirate record with this song but this version is better

  • @mybabba This version is exceptional, but like

you, I would love to hear their interpretation.

Rolling Stones up to Let It Bleed, were

the best. Unfortunately they stayed 'at the

    party too long'!

  • @fntime

Mick Jones of the Clash in their early days once said that they didn't want to end up like the Rolling Stones. Keith replied, "We haven't actually ended up yet."

Give A Bigger Bang and their later stuff a chance. You might be surprised.

  • The first song by Jagger og Richards

  • I liked this song the first time I heard it.What a beautiful and unigue voice.

  • This is great song, rest in peace Gene.

    Many thanks.

  • One of Gene's best...thanks for sharing...

  • written by jagger-richards

  • The Big 3...Gene Pitney-Roy Orbison-Buddy Holly....Great talent. Great vocals. Pop music keeps going downhill...Just when we thought it couldn't get worse than Disco...Rap (the C is silent) comes along...real minimal music...all you need is a microphone and grab your crotch. Don't even need musicians.

  • Disco was not all that bad. People wanted to have fun and Disco brought stuff outta people they didn't know they had. The sound Track from Saturday Night Fever has some great tunes on it and the movie was good at trying to capture the last gasp of what went before-Grease. Those were good days. I couldn't wait till I could get a pampadour hair cut. Pampadours didn't last long enough. Real Long Hair has been around for a long time now and mine is short by comparison.

  • GREAT VOCAL RANGE..!!!

  • I'm 21 and I love this song. I can't imagine requesting it in a nightclub though. lol

  • You're funny, in a very nice way. You make

me think, how wonderful it is to be 21.

  • the cool part here is that stones were not to much interest in writing songs at the time and than wrote this gem

  • This song is a good example of Pitney's exceptional voice. The most underrated vocalist of the 60's in my opinion.

  • Gene Pitney's voice is UNBELIEVABLE. He's such a great vocalist......

  • hey i was like 8 when i liked gene n guess what i saw him twice here in sydney australia b4 he pass away. best nites of my life!! seeing my idol. also im 30 lol i grew up on the 60's thats the best songs n music its all done, not that i hate the new stuff, but they lack meaning n beleaf as far i a can c it !!! as they say dead n gone but in ur heart they remaine!!! r.i.p. gene pitney i love u !!!!

  • He was an under-appreciated artist of his time. I'm impressed that he was so unique, and seemed always to go his own way, and after a lengthy career, by all accounts was just a decent guy and a great artist. Ya gotta admire that.

  • Gene Pitney steengoed ik hou nog steeds van zijn liedjes net als in de jaren 60

  • There's also a version with the vocals double-tracked.

  • yes,not heard that one for a long time

  • There are 2 (that I know of) posted on YouTube.

  • i love gene pitney, i was at his last concert in cardiff, wales in 2006 and he was fantastic, his songs will live on forever.

  • great song todays music is sh-t

  • 'todays music is sh-t'

What old people said the 1960s. You've fallen into the same trap.

  • the most underrated artist of all time. never made a bad record.

  • Right On Sampson, I second that! Every song

on this albums are great, not just the best

of albums..take any album and you are in for

    a pleasant surprise.

  • most were good, don,t think any good singer makes records that are all the same quality, some are better than others

  • come on, it's a truly awful tune.

let's just say that J&R got a whole better with practise

  • One of the first songs The Stones wrote to other artists...great partnership. Jagger and Richards.

  • he wrote one for the Stones, what was it?

  • Other way around, this song was written by Jagger/Richards for Pitney. He did however play piano on an early Stone's album. He was also the first to record a Randy Newman tune, "Just One Smile"

  • Actually, the Stones offered to let him sing it when he expressed interest.

  • Did the Rolling Stones record their own version of this song?

  • Yeah, they did in October of 1963 but they never released it. Although, it can be found on the bootleg Cd "Unsurpassed Masters Vol 1"

  • Thank you so much for putting this up,

  • Good tune. Thanks for adding.

  • Love this song by Gene. Thank you. .

  • this song was written by Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. I believe that Gene Pitney was the first singer to record one of their songs
