Number 2, and equally important you're skill level is far to high. the mistakes you make are NOT first time payer mistakes, but sandbagging mistakes. doubt anyone could do that properly though
Number 3: you can't properly duplicate the system, They ASSIGNED points to things, i(ie cards). unless you can find out a legitimate points system that matches their results it, there is NO way to properly duplicate the contest.
When I see "done right," I expect a perfectionist formulating a strategy to amass the maximum points in the given time frame. Frankly, you're not that great and made many glaring errors considering you have likey played this game night and day.
Well to be fair to the uploader getting 81000 points in 10 minutes being blinded is not that hard. I mean if you played Mario 1 and Mario 2 COULD help you should know the basic mechanics of the game. I mean also Jimmy got points for warping
hey Raikou, did you use the Power Glove to be so awesome?! Jusk kidding man. Everyone knows the Power Glove is the most retarded thing to ever be invented for gaming! good video nonetheless. though if i still had my NES, i'd challenge you.
this is just stupid =/.....seriously!! you know how to play the game so don't put "The Wizard-Super Mario 3- DONE RIGHT". if you never played this game before and were playing this for the very first time, then this video would be acceptable. change the name to "Super Mario 3 Speedrun" or something.
Okay lets assume that the point system in the finale of The Wizard is based on two factors. Score AND Distance. If that is the case, warping to ANY world would give you an advantage PROVIDED that no one else was able to find the flute to open the warp.
In the 1980's, when contests like this were rather commonplace, the championship of the tournament would usually use a game that had not been released in the US yet, so it would be a true test of a player's ability.
plus in the movie no one had EVER played it before. he was at a big disadvantage. Plus he was retarded and only 8 years old, lol. Doing it under a lot more pressure in front of a crowd. Are you going for distance or points because if your going for points man you could do better.
@AppleSoldier Yet somehow he knew where to find a warp whistle in that castle even though he hadn't played it before. lol, I still like this run though.
Don't you just love the idiots who neglect to read the description. All he's doing is going for the highest possible score in a 10 minute time frame, as they would have done in a real contest. Grat Job by the way
Let's not forget that in The Wizard, Mario 3 was a brand new, unreleased game. So the contestants would never have been able to practice beforehand. In this video, you have obviously played the game to death beforehand and have memorised every element of the gameplay. So stop assuming you're superior to a 9 year old kid, when you aren't.
Super Mario Bros. 3 was available in Japan as early as 1988. If a contest was being done in 1989 for SMB3, theoretically someone could have mastered the Famicom version and won the contest.
World 1 in the castle you run to the door where you hit the dead turtle but don't go through the door, turn around and fly up to the right from the dead turtle. Keep to the right and you'll see a treasure chest holding the key. It was in the movie the wizard
Ok keep trying! Did you try to get the other flute world 1? Where u go behind the bushes? Definetely use racoon mario make sure that the turtle is dead or he'll take away your racoon flying power. Gain speed and fly up from where the turtle is standing near the edge of the lava. Go right and keep at the right cause it takes a few secs to let u in like a door u have to push almost but u don't see anything. U CAN DO IT MAN!!!
HEY U GOT SOME NERVE! I'M TRYING TO HELP U AND I SAID KEEP TRYING YOU'LL GET IT! AND UR TELLING ME STFU?!!!! NICE..... ALSO UR HOW OLD!!! and u couldn't even get thAT FAR SO STFU RIGHT BACK! REAL MATURE FOR SOMEONE UR AGE!
Keep in mind that it was "jimmys" first time playing Super Mario 3, so it'd be unfair to compare an experienced player who knows the game backwards to a little kid playing it for his very first time
Actually the woman announcing the scores is messed up. I've seen the actual scores from the DVD for 1-1, and they're more realistic than what she said.
Haha, true! Anyone can bounce on the bombs on the first level there fo get infinite points (not really, but you get my point)!
There's that one place with the guys popping out of the ground throwing stuff at you. There's 3 of them. Just bouncing each of them 3 times gives you a few thousand points, and anyone can do that!
The wizard was screwed shit. It was a good movie, but do you rememeber the part where the host tells the poeple the final compition would be a game they never played? Then during the compitiion jimmys brother and the girl knew what do and basically told him everything to do.....I thought it was a game they never heard of. I guess since Jimmys "The Wizard" he must be phyic.
No way would it have gone down like that in the contest depicted in the film, since the game was unknown and brand new to the players at the time. Those of us who played this game growing up can all do what you did.
Heck, I can even beat the game in a relatively short time span. Makes me kinda wanna do a speed run just to see if I still know it heh . . .
wow... I must have been completely out of it when I wrote that, because I don't remember typing that... but still, the movie ends with a Super Mario 3 showdown, which is about as ridiculous as it gets. Who cares about how "realistic" the scene is?
wait...I don't remember them using the power glove to play this...Lucas or whatever his name was used to to play Rad Racer but I'm pretty sure they used normal controllers when they played in the tournament
Kankraka, haven't you ever heard of super-awesome magic before? It was magically awesome. Anyone who says otherwise listens to Bright Eyes and cares about plot holes in The Wizard. PS: Die.
Yeah, and you suck monokster. He just said hes pretty good at mario, not the best. People like you that make fun of people like these actually suck at whatever they're making fun of a person for O_o.
"The reason I didn't use the respawning enemies to get mass points in 1-2 was in such a contest, abusing respawning enemies for mass points would not be allowed." Read the description.
Well, the game was out in Japan already -- according to the game's Wikipedia article, it was released October 23, 1988. Even though the Internet as we know it wasn't around back then, some information about the game *might* have become available before its American release on 1/1/90 -- through magazines, word of mouth, you name it. So Jimmy's knowledge of the warp whistle may not have been an anachronism, after all.
yur good man, but you gotta remember, in the movie, that tornament was supposed to be the first time anyone has played the game, so ofcourse he got like 81,00 point, it was his first time playing. but still, you did a great job!
I was about to say the same thing. Still, this is some seriously professional playing you got there. Did you ever consider going for the Iron Man of Gaming?
its funny how to this day as we play it we know ever secrete, every boss, memory of the stage etc. but if u ever remembered, everyone SUCKED at this game, its because we were causes going through each level. those days were GREAT when you actually needed help on the game and friends would sit around getting REALLY excited playing this fantastic game. but to this day us great gamers sit by are selves playing alone lol
I had those great memories as a 5-year old but are now wreaked by online gaming. What happened to the good old days where you'd have all your friends around playing games for hours on end?
my friend got 267,300 in 10 minutes on his first try hes fast.
I let him play thro the first level to get use to the controls then he restarted the game and did better then you oh And I really do think that jimmy didnt know the game.
or the fact that a kid knew exactly where the warp whistle in the first mini castle was...or how the girl kept saying get the star, but he really wanted the mushroom at the end of the level to get the extra lives
yes it is. before you go through the first door in the castle where the drybones is, there is enough space to fly is you have the leaf then you fly up to the right in the gap in the roof
Yes, it is there. I got the warp whistle by falling through the white block in 1-3 because I'd get more points finishing the fortress level by defeating Boom-Boom instead of getting the warp whistle there.
I once did this & manage to scrape up 186,400. Thanks for giving me all the secrets to beat you!. The kids in The Wizard never played the game before & were playing in front of a huge crowd.
I used to have Super Mario All Stars for the SNES, and this was my favorite game out of all of them. I got a lot of points, and I know just about every warp zone
dude thing is for people who were playing a new game like those three kids from 'the wizard' there really wasn't any "right" way to play. I mean they all had to learn how to play on the spot. so of course anyone else who's even got the basics down will have a better run then the kids in the movie
I'd like to point out that the characters in the Wizard people were playing SMB3 for the first time, ever. The fact that you're damn good at Mario pretty much makes you better by default.
That aside, a pretty impressive run. Beats the pants off what me and a friend can do.
Oh lord, you proably started a contest now. XD Now everyone is gonna try to play the Mario brothers and get a higher score in the time limit. Hell, even I'm thinking of doing it.
Awesome, you did a great job! I might have to try it myself! There were so many mistakes in the movie's depiction of the game too, like level 5 being magically finished after he gets the whistle. Or at the end of level 2, Haley's like "GET THE STAR!", he gets the Flower and they all cheer. Anyways, way to go!
Also, where was level 1-2? I never saw it in the movie. That's another discrepancy I found. This run was my first try on camera and only my third try overall; I was using an experimental strategy in this run and it seemed to work. If I cut some of my mistakes out, 250k is possible.
Yeah, I was thinking of giving this a whirl. Another mistake I noticed was that at some point, the girl in the competition is supposedly in "world 2" as they call it, but in one of the shots she is still at the beginning of the first level. Then 10 seconds later she finishes world 2.
I think the announcer meant level 2, not world 2. Good luck. If you want to know my strategy, ask and I'll PM you. I can easily get 250k with it--I lost around 20k on stage 2-4.
okay TG points presser here
Number 1, you show blatant game knowledge.

No, this is not "SMB3 done right". This is SMB 3 done with 20/20 hindsight, the next day.
1. You have WAY to much knowledge of the game. Both in knowing where things are, and in practiced tricks.
2. You're not trying hard enough. You're leaning on practice.

Amazing

Let's be honest, there were about a billion things wrong with that movie. Starting with the fact that he was calling Level 1-3 World 2...
BJWLAM 3 years ago
or the fact that a kid knew exactly where the warp whistle in the first mini castle was...or how the girl kept saying get the star, but he really wanted the mushroom at the end of the level to get the extra lives
ShockaSlim 3 years ago
The warp whistle in the castle isn't actually there. 0.o
You get it if you fall through the white block on world 1-5, I think.
DbzmasterdbzNecross 3 years ago
yes it is. before you go through the first door in the castle where the drybones is, there is enough space to fly is you have the leaf then you fly up to the right in the gap in the roof

When I played it, I couldn't fly up there. Nothing happened. 0_0
IndianJusticeConfeds 3 years ago
Yes, it is there. I got the warp whistle by falling through the white block in 1-3 because I'd get more points finishing the fortress level by defeating Boom-Boom instead of getting the warp whistle there.
RaikouRider 3 years ago
I once did this & manage to scrape up 186,400. Thanks for giving me all the secrets to beat you!. The kids in The Wizard never played the game before & were playing in front of a huge crowd.
HBKanedge818 1 year ago
I used to have Super Mario All Stars for the SNES, and this was my favorite game out of all of them. I got a lot of points, and I know just about every warp zone
naturalist765 3 years ago
dude thing is for people who were playing a new game like those three kids from 'the wizard' there really wasn't any "right" way to play. I mean they all had to learn how to play on the spot. so of course anyone else who's even got the basics down will have a better run then the kids in the movie
noahtheimagine 3 years ago 6
There were a few mistakes that you did make, but for ten minutes that was amazing compared to Jimmy's score.
RaceBandit 3 years ago
You scored more points than the kid in the movie? That's nice.
I might be impressed if you had done that your first time playing the game.
Like the kid in the movie.

You fuckin suck, you're more retarded than the retard in The Wizard.

You're only jealous of his superior skill and - as such - are trying to break his psyche with a crappy comment. How low can you go?
RaceBandit 3 years ago 2
I could do much better. And you missed the World 1 Castle warp whistle.
jbalish102 4 years ago
I think he did that for the points from Boom Boom. Then again, he probably would've managed a little better with it.
RaceBandit 4 years ago
Yeah, but can you use...the powerglove?! ;)

SCyank27 4 years ago
Then what score should I be getting?
RaikouRider 4 years ago
Alot higher than that. I mean come on, I could do so much better
SCyank27 4 years ago
Please post a video of your run.
RaikouRider 4 years ago
I give this to you the video was great. I love to play video games but I do not know how to tape them as well as you can.
SCyank27 4 years ago
use an emualtor get vitura nes or something
sorasnobodiexiii 4 years ago
I'd like to point out that the characters in the Wizard people were playing SMB3 for the first time, ever. The fact that you're damn good at Mario pretty much makes you better by default.
That aside, a pretty impressive run. Beats the pants off what me and a friend can do.
TerminusEst13 4 years ago
Oh lord, you proably started a contest now. XD Now everyone is gonna try to play the Mario brothers and get a higher score in the time limit. Hell, even I'm thinking of doing it.
Klutzybear 4 years ago
I'm kinda surprised there isn't a whole line of TAS videos of SMB3 on this theme.
yoshi1k1 4 years ago
you missed 1k points in the first level by not holding on to the koopa when you hit the card

who the fuck plays mario for points?
PsychoJosh 4 years ago
it's why the game was made fucktard
CrabcakeOG 4 years ago 3
Awesome, you did a great job! I might have to try it myself! There were so many mistakes in the movie's depiction of the game too, like level 5 being magically finished after he gets the whistle. Or at the end of level 2, Haley's like "GET THE STAR!", he gets the Flower and they all cheer. Anyways, way to go!
JealousGuy 4 years ago
Also, where was level 1-2? I never saw it in the movie. That's another discrepancy I found. This run was my first try on camera and only my third try overall; I was using an experimental strategy in this run and it seemed to work. If I cut some of my mistakes out, 250k is possible.
RaikouRider 4 years ago
Yeah, I was thinking of giving this a whirl. Another mistake I noticed was that at some point, the girl in the competition is supposedly in "world 2" as they call it, but in one of the shots she is still at the beginning of the first level. Then 10 seconds later she finishes world 2.
JealousGuy 4 years ago
I think the announcer meant level 2, not world 2. Good luck. If you want to know my strategy, ask and I'll PM you. I can easily get 250k with it--I lost around 20k on stage 2-4.
RaikouRider 4 years ago
Nah, it's cool. I'd already be ripping you off just by using the whistle trick!
