  • okay TG points presser here

Number 1, you show blatant game knowledge.

Number 2, and equally important you're skill level is far to high. the mistakes you make are NOT first time payer mistakes, but sandbagging mistakes. doubt anyone could do that properly though

Number 3: you can't properly duplicate the system, They ASSIGNED points to things, i(ie cards). unless you can find out a legitimate points system that matches their results it, there is NO way to properly duplicate the contest.

  • When I see "done right," I expect a perfectionist formulating a strategy to amass the maximum points in the given time frame. Frankly, you're not that great and made many glaring errors considering you have likey played this game night and day.

  • CALIFORNIA!!!!

  • WATCH THE MUSHROOMS!!!

  • why do i love the movie wizard soo much??? is it cause theres alot of games (with wrong theme songs/scoring system)?

  • There were different scoring methods from the movie too.

  • That movie makes me really wanna hold a Super Mario 3 contest of my own.

  • Well to be fair to the uploader getting 81000 points in 10 minutes being blinded is not that hard. I mean if you played Mario 1 and Mario 2 COULD help you should know the basic mechanics of the game. I mean also Jimmy got points for warping

  • I though he used a warp pipe.

  • you suck

  • I just put myself to the test 5 minutes ago and I got 147850 my first try. Is that any good?

  • Try that on your first try playing the game. That's more like the contest.

    -James

  • No, this is not "SMB3 done right". This is SMB 3 done with 20/20 hindsight, the next day.

    1. You have WAY to much knowledge of the game. Both in knowing where things are, and in practiced tricks.

    2. You're not trying hard enough. You're leaning on practice.

  • i did not know about magic flute ! :D

  • if u run u always get a star

  • YOU DIDN'T EVEN FINISH THE WORLD

  • its good but he coulda hit 250 if he took his time a bit more

  • hey Raikou, did you use the Power Glove to be so awesome?! Jusk kidding man. Everyone knows the Power Glove is the most retarded thing to ever be invented for gaming! good video nonetheless. though if i still had my NES, i'd challenge you.

  • @ProductZero HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • what tha fuck is going on here?

  • this is just stupid =/.....seriously!! you know how to play the game so don't put "The Wizard-Super Mario 3- DONE RIGHT". if you never played this game before and were playing this for the very first time, then this video would be acceptable. change the name to "Super Mario 3 Speedrun" or something.

  • theres a flute in the sub castle too

  • Okay lets assume that the point system in the finale of The Wizard is based on two factors. Score AND Distance. If that is the case, warping to ANY world would give you an advantage PROVIDED that no one else was able to find the flute to open the warp.

In the 1980's, when contests like this were rather commonplace, the championship of the tournament would usually use a game that had not been released in the US yet, so it would be a true test of a player's ability.

  • EPIC FAIL AT :39 seconds

  • he made it go faster! see the bipeing p

  • r u going for points or distance? if its distance i can get to bowser's castle in 10 minutes.

  • its a MOVIE guys

i dont think the 9 year old kid was retarded or that he even played the game in the movie.

theres never been a super mario bros 3 contest,

    so this video is pointless

  • plus in the movie no one had EVER played it before. he was at a big disadvantage. Plus he was retarded and only 8 years old, lol. Doing it under a lot more pressure in front of a crowd. Are you going for distance or points because if your going for points man you could do better.

  • @AppleSoldier Yet somehow he knew where to find a warp whistle in that castle even though he hadn't played it before. lol, I still like this run though.

  • all the stuff he lets pass, he could do better. Not saying I could, be he could have.

  • the mario games are great, I think that nintendo should re-realese the 1st 3 mario games for the next nintendo system....

  • only if its sidescroll.

  • Don't you just love the idiots who neglect to read the description. All he's doing is going for the highest possible score in a 10 minute time frame, as they would have done in a real contest. Grat Job by the way

    *prepares for the down votes*

  • Let's not forget that in The Wizard, Mario 3 was a brand new, unreleased game. So the contestants would never have been able to practice beforehand. In this video, you have obviously played the game to death beforehand and have memorised every element of the gameplay. So stop assuming you're superior to a 9 year old kid, when you aren't.

  • He saying he's superior to an f-grade merchandising vehicle starring fred savage, not a 9-year old child.

  • Super Mario Bros. 3 was available in Japan as early as 1988. If a contest was being done in 1989 for SMB3, theoretically someone could have mastered the Famicom version and won the contest.

  • hes blunt but hes right in a sense

  • Great Job!

  • Great job!

  • Don't you know theres also a flute in the castle?

  • Comment removed

  • WHERE?

  • World 1 in the castle you run to the door where you hit the dead turtle but don't go through the door, turn around and fly up to the right from the dead turtle. Keep to the right and you'll see a treasure chest holding the key. It was in the movie the wizard

  • what level does it take you(and you mean flute)

  • All the way to level 4 or 5 it's up to you really. You choose which level you want to go to like it will show 2 3 4

  • i cant get up to the flute and i have Raccoon Mario

  • Ok keep trying! Did you try to get the other flute world 1? Where u go behind the bushes? Definetely use racoon mario make sure that the turtle is dead or he'll take away your racoon flying power. Gain speed and fly up from where the turtle is standing near the edge of the lava. Go right and keep at the right cause it takes a few secs to let u in like a door u have to push almost but u don't see anything. U CAN DO IT MAN!!!

  • Did u get the flute behind the bushes? My advice is to get both from bushes and the castle(the flutes) and ur halfway done when u play both.

  • bushes? i play SMB3 on the Game Boy

  • you know what nevermind im already on world 3 so STFU

  • HEY U GOT SOME NERVE! I'M TRYING TO HELP U AND I SAID KEEP TRYING YOU'LL GET IT! AND UR TELLING ME STFU?!!!! NICE..... ALSO UR HOW OLD!!! and u couldn't even get thAT FAR SO STFU RIGHT BACK! REAL MATURE FOR SOMEONE UR AGE!

  • yu stfu

  • Keep in mind that it was "jimmys" first time playing Super Mario 3, so it'd be unfair to compare an experienced player who knows the game backwards to a little kid playing it for his very first time

  • In the movie the scoring was weird, it was like based on progress, right? Well either way you woulda won it. Pretty cool challenge there.

  • why in the world did you go to world 2???

  • the pyramids turn into coins -.-

  • Is it me or he's wasting a LOT of time?

  • Actually the woman announcing the scores is messed up. I've seen the actual scores from the DVD for 1-1, and they're more realistic than what she said.

  • It was before the game came out and him and nobody else had played it before. So it's a little different.

  • in the first fortress there is a whistle: fly up the blocks at the end of the first room!

  • and theres one in level 3 in world 1 near the end

  • i think in the movie the wizard, mario 3 was a new game that no played before, which doesnt explain why jimmy knew about the whistle

  • You missed a chance to get 2 whistles. Theres one in the castle.

  • this is fucking ridiculous but i still watched it all :/

  • Well someone's head is very far up their own ass.

    Get a life

  • HAHA LAME

in the movie it was the first time they ever even seen or played them game.

epic fail on trying to make yourself look good. your a terd

  • HAHA LAME

in the DESCRIPTION it tells you what it is!

Epic fail on trying to make a noob of this guy YOUR A DOUCHE

  • Ok ok stop arguing about that movie, in fact it sucked hard. It was basically just advertisment for nintendo in disguise of a crap movie.

  • you should have gotten the whistle on the first castle than used the whistle than used the other one while in the warp zone, straight to world 8!

  • Haha, true! Anyone can bounce on the bombs on the first level there fo get infinite points (not really, but you get my point)!

There's that one place with the guys popping out of the ground throwing stuff at you. There's 3 of them. Just bouncing each of them 3 times gives you a few thousand points, and anyone can do that!

  • The wizard was screwed shit. It was a good movie, but do you rememeber the part where the host tells the poeple the final compition would be a game they never played? Then during the compitiion jimmys brother and the girl knew what do and basically told him everything to do.....I thought it was a game they never heard of. I guess since Jimmys "The Wizard" he must be phyic.

  • Ahh, but Jimmy had never played the game before that day! That doesn't explain how people in the audience know about the warp whistle but... shut up!

  • what the hell is the wizard i dont get it

  • A shitty movie about a game competition or something.

  • Nice play there, but . . .

No way would it have gone down like that in the contest depicted in the film, since the game was unknown and brand new to the players at the time. Those of us who played this game growing up can all do what you did.

Heck, I can even beat the game in a relatively short time span. Makes me kinda wanna do a speed run just to see if I still know it heh . . .

  • wow... I must have been completely out of it when I wrote that, because I don't remember typing that... but still, the movie ends with a Super Mario 3 showdown, which is about as ridiculous as it gets. Who cares about how "realistic" the scene is?

  • Ok jimmy did this WITH THE POWER GLOVE really hard to use and you used the nes controller T_T

  • wait...I don't remember them using the power glove to play this...Lucas or whatever his name was used to to play Rad Racer but I'm pretty sure they used normal controllers when they played in the tournament

  • Jimmy didn't use the Power Glove. Did you even watch the hilarious moveh?

  • California....

  • You're a fucking dipshit. You've obviously played this game before, and the retard depicted in the wizard had never played before.

  • And yet the 'retard depicted in the wizard' SOME HOW KNEW WHERE THE SECOND WARP WHISTLE WAS!

Yeah, just killed -your- argument didn't I?

  • Hardly...

You're saying it's impossible to have read about the game since it was out prior to him playing it?

Or considering he was supposed to be the fucking "wizard" actually found the shit the good old fashion way?

This is a work of fiction, or do you still want to believe this movie is the real world?

Even if he had played the game prior to the contest, he most likely wouldn't have practiced a timed score run like the original poster of this video.

OP still sucks cocks either way.

  • Kankraka, haven't you ever heard of super-awesome magic before? It was magically awesome. Anyone who says otherwise listens to Bright Eyes and cares about plot holes in The Wizard. PS: Die.

  • But aren't you forgetting the kids never saw or played the game before?? That would make a difference.

  • not even that the object was to play a game never played before

  • why didnt you just get both the flutes? ffs! use one flute and before you choose a world use the other and get the world 8 duhhh

  • Why would he? The objective was to get the most points in 10 minutes, not getting as far as possible.

  • True.

  • Who ever playing sux lol.

  • yeah, they wizard kids had never played it.

  • Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy!

  • YOUR MOVIE SUCKS DONKEY DICK

  • dude i can beat the game in like 8 haha

  • This guy is good and you can all suck some cocks while defending the movie.

  • but... the movie used a whackass scoring system anyway. the way you did it isn't comparable

  • lol what a joke. you aint that good. stop having such a high dunk. u aint that super great.

  • Yeah, and you suck monokster. He just said hes pretty good at mario, not the best. People like you that make fun of people like these actually suck at whatever they're making fun of a person for O_o.

  • The guy who beat SMB3 in 11 minutes scored 239,200 points in 7min. 300k in 10 min...XD. Eh, just saying...:P

  • You know that when they played SMB3 in The Wizard, that was the FIRST time they played it. Just tellin yah.

  • You DID miss out the 1up trick on the goombas on 1-2, which gives you a buttload of points.

  • "The reason I didn't use the respawning enemies to get mass points in 1-2 was in such a contest, abusing respawning enemies for mass points would not be allowed." Read the description.

  • *cough*readdescription*cough*

  • Ok, I don't remember this movie well, but wasn't that movie the "reveal" of SMB3? As in, they had never played it before? So, you got a ton of points

but how many years have you been playing? I'm not comparing your real life to a dumb 80s movie, but I'm just putting that out there.

  • Pretty much this. It's not really a fair comparison unless this was your first time playing, which I'm sure it's not.

  • Yeah, and in the movie, how did the kid know where to find the whistle if he'd never played Mario before?

  • psychic!

  • Well, the game was out in Japan already -- according to the game's Wikipedia article, it was released October 23, 1988. Even though the Internet as we know it wasn't around back then, some information about the game *might* have become available before its American release on 1/1/90 -- through magazines, word of mouth, you name it. So Jimmy's knowledge of the warp whistle may not have been an anachronism, after all.

  • you lost your touch in the last level *becides hammer-bro* ....becides that your exelent at the game!

  • Well, you are using the point score here:)

    NOT the speed run!:)

    I like it!:)

    Good<3

  • You know what could be a good idea...beating all Super Mario Brothers games so everyone can see

  • yur good man, but you gotta remember, in the movie, that tornament was supposed to be the first time anyone has played the game, so ofcourse he got like 81,00 point, it was his first time playing. but still, you did a great job!

  • I was about to say the same thing. Still, this is some seriously professional playing you got there. Did you ever consider going for the Iron Man of Gaming?

  • I don't care what everyone else says, I think you're really good^^

  • BULL CRAP !!!!

  • drhitler,

If you can beat the score...then DO IT, and prove it.

  • its funny how to this day as we play it we know ever secrete, every boss, memory of the stage etc. but if u ever remembered, everyone SUCKED at this game, its because we were causes going through each level. those days were GREAT when you actually needed help on the game and friends would sit around getting REALLY excited playing this fantastic game. but to this day us great gamers sit by are selves playing alone lol

  • I had those great memories as a 5-year old but are now wreaked by online gaming. What happened to the good old days where you'd have all your friends around playing games for hours on end?

  • But dont forgot That time was the first time Jimmy ever played Mario Bros. 3

And you must of played it like a gizzilion times

But how the hell did he find the flute??

  • You're right, it was his first time playing it... and how did he get the flute? Maybe he was born Pro :O

  • LMAO!

  • i can get to bowser in 12 minutes XD

  • hahaha dont make me laugh. the world record is 11mins 3secs. r u saying your only 57 seconds away from beating a world record.hehehe

  • That video was also doctored.

  • Not this video. Damn reply won't work for the correct comment.

  • He was going for points dipshit, not a speedrun. Learn to read, little boy.

  • i wasnt talking aabout this vid dumbass i was talking to goldslivergm. learn to read bitch

  • my friend got 267,300 in 10 minutes on his first try hes fast.

I let him play thro the first level to get use to the controls then he restarted the game and did better then you oh And I really do think that jimmy didnt know the game.

  • Amazing

  • Let's be honest, there were about a billion things wrong with that movie. Starting with the fact that he was calling Level 1-3 World 2...

  • or the fact that a kid knew exactly where the warp whistle in the first mini castle was...or how the girl kept saying get the star, but he really wanted the mushroom at the end of the level to get the extra lives

  • The warp whistle in the castle isn't actually there. 0.o

You get it if you fall through the white block on world 1-5, I think.

  • yes it is. before you go through the first door in the castle where the drybones is, there is enough space to fly is you have the leaf then you fly up to the right in the gap in the roof

  • Yes, it is there. I got the warp whistle by falling through the white block in 1-3 because I'd get more points finishing the fortress level by defeating Boom-Boom instead of getting the warp whistle there.

  • I once did this & manage to scrape up 186,400. Thanks for giving me all the secrets to beat you!. The kids in The Wizard never played the game before & were playing in front of a huge crowd.

  • I used to have Super Mario All Stars for the SNES, and this was my favorite game out of all of them. I got a lot of points, and I know just about every warp zone

  • dude thing is for people who were playing a new game like those three kids from 'the wizard' there really wasn't any "right" way to play. I mean they all had to learn how to play on the spot. so of course anyone else who's even got the basics down will have a better run then the kids in the movie

  • There were a few mistakes that you did make, but for ten minutes that was amazing compared to Jimmy's score.

  • You scored more points than the kid in the movie? That's nice.

I might be impressed if you had done that your first time playing the game.

Like the kid in the movie.

  • how did make the video?

  • You ARE pretty damn good at mario!

  • You're only jealous of his superior skill and - as such - are trying to break his psyche with a crappy comment. How low can you go?

  • I could do much better. And you missed the World 1 Castle warp whistle.

  • I think he did that for the points from Boom Boom. Then again, he probably would've managed a little better with it.

  • Yeah, but can you use...the powerglove?! ;)

  • "The Power Glove, It's So Bad"

  • the angry video game nerd says that lol

  • LOL

  • you can do better than that :/

  • hmm..i fell like making me own vid now

  • look I am sorry but this is not that impresive. It is a cool idea but not well done

  • Then what score should I be getting?

  • Alot higher than that. I mean come on, I could do so much better

  • Please post a video of your run.

  • I give this to you the video was great. I love to play video games but I do not know how to tape them as well as you can.

  • use an emualtor get vitura nes or something

  • I'd like to point out that the characters in the Wizard people were playing SMB3 for the first time, ever. The fact that you're damn good at Mario pretty much makes you better by default.

That aside, a pretty impressive run. Beats the pants off what me and a friend can do.

  • Oh lord, you proably started a contest now. XD Now everyone is gonna try to play the Mario brothers and get a higher score in the time limit. Hell, even I'm thinking of doing it.

  • I'm kinda surprised there isn't a whole line of TAS videos of SMB3 on this theme.

  • you missed 1k points in the first level by not holding on to the koopa when you hit the card

  • it's why the game was made fucktard

  • Awesome, you did a great job! I might have to try it myself! There were so many mistakes in the movie's depiction of the game too, like level 5 being magically finished after he gets the whistle. Or at the end of level 2, Haley's like "GET THE STAR!", he gets the Flower and they all cheer. Anyways, way to go!

  • Also, where was level 1-2? I never saw it in the movie. That's another discrepancy I found. This run was my first try on camera and only my third try overall; I was using an experimental strategy in this run and it seemed to work. If I cut some of my mistakes out, 250k is possible.

  • Yeah, I was thinking of giving this a whirl. Another mistake I noticed was that at some point, the girl in the competition is supposedly in "world 2" as they call it, but in one of the shots she is still at the beginning of the first level. Then 10 seconds later she finishes world 2.

  • I think the announcer meant level 2, not world 2. Good luck. If you want to know my strategy, ask and I'll PM you. I can easily get 250k with it--I lost around 20k on stage 2-4.

  • Nah, it's cool. I'd already be ripping you off just by using the whistle trick!
