I don't understand why you deleted the original stepped contours and made your own stepped contours. Was that just to demonstrate how to make your own contours from a smooth contour?

Otherwise, in practice, if I were working from stepped contours obtained by real topographical data, say via survey, GPS, satellite, etc, I would never discard that.
