I literally downloaded this to my ipod haha, it sounds that freakin amazing. Im hoping to get a midnight blue gto and want it to sound just like this. Awesome goat
The only surging left is experienced when I push the clutch in at parking lot speeds. The idle dips down to 300-500 rpm. Its not as bad if input the stick in neutral as soon as I push the clutch in. Does that sound like I need to increase my cruisedown idle spark?
There is only one other tuner in town and I think they know even less than these people who are tuning it now. I'm about to take it back to them this week for it's third "street tuning" and I'm sure my idle will be at 950 rpms when I get it back. Could this other place tune the RAF table and MAF startup g/sec Without returning the whole tune to stokf eao us hp tuners? Or would that be asking for trouble?
So on a warm start I noticed the MAF reading to be 15 g/sec before and during the engine cranking and would then return to it's normal 8 g/sec idle reading.
Since they don't touch the Idle-Part throttle MAF/VE cells your engine needs to idle and run as it should, they would give you the BS about increasing idle speed and/or increasing idle timing to unnecessary values. check the HPT forums for what the RAF does. This is the main table for idle source for a LS2 engine, but in order to keep everything as a whole system, the MAF/VE airflow tables need to be modeled according to your engine mods, without it, the RAF values won't work as they should.
Also, he needs to make sure that the MAF/VE airflow is an actual representation of the amount of air the engine is getting through the intake, if the MAF/VE airflow model is incorrect, the fueling would be incorrect, and it would directly affect the way the engine runs at idle, parth throttle. most tuners only adjust the WOT using the PE table as a leverage for the fueling they want to see on the dyno. this is incorrect, the proper way is to adjust the MAF/VE tables to match PE.
The idle rpm won't fix the surge or the hot start. the Hot start is basically too much startup airflow at specific coolant temps. if you have a way to look at it, log MAF or VE airflow against ECT. the engine needs only so much airflow during the first 2-4 sec of crank, and normally between 2-3 g/sec more than what it needs to keep running at dle. anything more or less g/sec of air, would produce cold/hot starts.
It looks like the throttle blade position is at 15% just before a hot start and then surges between 500 and 1100 rpms and sometimes dies unless I feather the gas pedal. Throttle blade position is at 6% at a stable, warm idle (between780-820 rpms). Also, it surges more on hot starts when it is above about 75 degrees outside, but starts beautifully on all cold starts. Wouldn't that suggest too much start up airflow?
The trick is to be able to dial the Min RAF table to where it needs to be, more importantly, have a VE/MAF dialed in. idle timing doesn't need to be higher than stock I know what you're saying about your tuner telling you about going below 800rpm. cold/hot start issues are due to incorrect airflow, more likely, he added to much to try to correct the startup airflow, regardless of ECT temp. too much startup airflow is the same as too little.. Good Luck. That's why i decided to do my own tuning :)
One last thing... I like the way it idles with my A/C compressor on, and I've noticed when it sounds best the rpms are 760-790. But again, he will probably blame any surging on a low idle speed. Thanks for letting me pick your brain and sorry for the multiple posting.
I'm taking it back for more street tuning 2moro. It hesitates when it goes into open loop until rpms get past 2200. It also surges and dies on warm engine starts and when stopping--- but only does so on warmer days. I'm just afraid he's gonna tell me that he can't lower the idle because I will just be making my surging problem worse.
He set my idle (with HP tuners) to 800 and told me if he set the idle too low that it would surge worse when coming to a stop/pushing the clutch in. I originally asked him to set the idle to 750 but he left it at 800. Also, I as wrong bout my idle timing. It's 22* adv at idle. Thanks for the reply.
It won't get choppier with more advance. i set the idle at 700rpm, stock LS2 GTO base idle table., She would drive like a kitten at 700rpm with the 228/228 assuming your tuner knows what he/she's doing. i do my own tuning with HPTuners.
Love the way yours sounds! What is your idle rpm and idle timing in this video? I have the same exact cam with JBA shortys, catless mids, Borla catback, k&n CAI, and dyno tune--- but when my car gets to normal operating temp the idle is a little too smooth for me. My timing is still 13* advanced at idle and I'm going to ask the tuner if he would toy around with advancing it just a little to see if it gets a little choppier while he tunes some drivability stuff. I made 402rwhp with my setup by
Badass dude... Im putting in the same cam this weekend on my GTO.... I have SLP LM1's though... But ive been thinking about swapping to these mufflers... I lucked out to find your vid with the same cam that im putting in as well as the mufflers I want... NICE..

Dude, I seriously might do that one day. I'm sick of those jokers.

Justin, buy Hptuners and i'll email you my GTO tune. forget about those "tooners".. :)

This guy bragged about all the 228r canned GTOs he had done before mine. That's the worst part of it.

Without returning the whole tune to stock if they use hp tuners... That's what I originally typed.

So when he tells me idling it up to 820 rpm is the only way to fix the hot start surge/dying I can tell him he is dead wrong?
